    John you f’d up on this video, race chains are the biggest secret in the game. You are exposing too many secrets. I love a ported saw and just recently started learning about how advanced sharpening can actually get. Great video, love the info.

    John, thank you so much for illustrating this crucially important fact! Your saw will only cut as fast as your chain is sharp!!! Guys get so caught up with trying to add power to their work saws, which is obviously important, but if you can’t file chain, or grind, or however you choose to sharpen, your saw will suffer!!
    You are the man! Much love and respect to you from the Evergreen state!! 🌲🌲

    Dam, that chain and your tweakin makes the stock saw look like a saw third smaller in size compared to the cut times.
    Glad to see you got smart, and covered everything up this time, because I know you spent a good amount of time with shop vac cleaning up, moving power heads around first go around. Appreciate your efforts on giving demonstrations inside, because you still got half the mess to clean up once again.

    HI John race chains make a lot of diff for instance me and my friend went to a saw compaction I told him to sign up in the ported class with his 661 & 462 both saws was stock but both had bark boxes on them he placed 3rd both classes he was astound that was the first time he ran a race chain I done very will to they are expensive at 300$ a pop I sold 9 that day there is a lot of work that go's in to a race chain food for thought ask the guy that dose your chains to put a good round filling on one of your chains so you can sharpen it yourself it will be a little slow but it will fill good when yo cut with your saw it will save you time and money that what I do to my customers so that they can practice cutting for a competition KEEP ON ROCKIN DUDE !!!!!!!!

    Hi John I'm only 13 years old but I love working on saws and cutting wood I like to work on older stihl chansaws like the 038s and most of the older ones I like some of the old home lites like the xl 76s is it true that the ms 250 is your favorite saw I have a few and thear a nice smaler saw with the 16 inch bar

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Love to hear it dude... getting the bug to work on saws that young is awesome because most kids (no offense bro I'm 40 so you are a kid to me lol)... dont have any interest in small engines especially 2 strokes... you guys are the future... and YES the MS250 is my vote for the best saw ever made... now I dont port them and throw tons of mods at them... I know that sounds weird coming from me... but the 250 is a cheap homeowner saw that doesn't realize its not a pro saw and they just get it done and are incredibly durable for what they are... convert it to 3/8 chain and get rid of the .325 safety chain... learn how to sharpen them really well and they will surprise you... I did service/repairs for many years and they sold husky and stihl at the dealership i was at and those 250s were incredibly reliable and durable... best "bang for your buck" saw in my humble opinion 💯

    That blacked out 500i is sexy. Your 500i builds look stout. Wish I was rich and could afford to buy one from all of the reputable builders to compare. Wish you were taking used saws at the moment. My 462 needs some love.
    Quick question if you don't mind. I know in your 461 build video you set squish at .020 as most people do but what would you consider the absolute minimum that you would run for a personal saw?

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends a Iot on how you are building it... the way you cut the squish and if you are doing any machining etc... I dome my pistons and cut the squish so its a little different... but as a general rule of thumb... I would say .022 or .025 absolute minimum
