@@NigelsModellingBench I put a little work in on the engines, yeah. They're not bad detail-wise, not the most amazing engines in 1/48 but definitely up there! At least of kits I've built, anyway haha 😅
I have this kit, myself, fully intact. One point is that if you look at sprue 'D' it has 2 sets of Inner flaps (Closest to the fuselage), one with a scribed hatch position for a "kick-in door"and the other with an opened gap for the pilot to use as a step. This indicates that an F4U-1D and later models are probably planned as that was a feature of all subsequent models after the F4U-1D, where it was introduced. And yes it is IMHO, superior to the Tamiya Kit which is pushing 30 years old, nowadaze. The cockpit and R-28000 Engine are simplified badly compared to this new kit, as is the weak wingfold option. Note that with AM decals an F4U-1 (Birdcage) is also possible to biuld from this kit. (No Radome). Sadly, andF4U-1D would need the Tandem Drop tanks and only Tamiya have those in their 1-D kit. Very good and well thought out review.
I saw that with the kick-in! I meant to include it, but plum forgot by the time I got to the sprue; was fighting a few off-screen issues while recording haha. Thanks for mentioning it, it's really the small details like this that has me so excited to build them!!!
Looks like the white stripe is actually the top side inspection hatch that some chief mechanics required painted separately. Check close the bare plastic and if looks like it lines up, then was choice by individual wings. Some last second top off point before flight and so could be seen by the deck bosses as checked/topped. From memory -- grain of salt
The white is actually tape! The early Corsairs would leak oil and it would spatter on the canopy and obscure vision (considering the Corsair already had some vision issues....) The one we were talking about in chat is the dark grey stripe on only one scheme. It's tri-tone and then has a random dark grey camo stripe. Very interesting!
I Love Model. :D and new brands ar welcom. the tamiya color sheet is wat i miss in so meny kits. +mr color and AK very cool ! 19:25 i know same stuff ^^ greait you found it.
I'd love it if Eduard came out with a Corsair I could compare this against. Until they do, not sure there's really a comparison to be drawn there...? Besides, double packs have been a thing since the 70's; Eduard is far from being the pioneer there. I'm also not sure where you're getting that pricing from; You can find these easily for ~$60-$70, Eduard 1/48 ProfiPack kits (the rough equivalent) run for ~$40-$50 for a single similarly sized plane. (So in effect ~$80-$100 for the same thing)
That's a good point though that you bring up that I had meant to mention in the video. Since I was primarily comparing it to the Tamiya Corsair, at $60-$70 for the double that's ~$30-$35 per plane. Tamiya's Corsairs in 1/48 also run about $25-$30, so they are cheaper. That's certainly something to consider, are the small improvements worth the price increase? Which is a very individual question, I think.
@@fenrismodels thanks for reply, actually I had no idea Eduard didn't have a Corsair, they sure make a lot of accessories. I was being somewhat satirical on pricing. I retired a few years ago and had taken a sabbatical from modeling. Re-entering the hobby has been like Rip van Winkle the increase in manufacturers materials but mostly PRICING. $30.00 is not bad but I see 80 in a 1/48 and want to stomp on the kits. Or a Lancaster over $600.00? I don't have a brick and mortar hobby shop so the Internet is my only source for supplies and kits. The Chinese are making great detail kits however I don't buy Chinese kits , you can't rely on shipping, and as prejudice as it seems I'm a Vietnam Vet and do not buy Chineese or Vietnamese products, never will. So my shot across the bow to your video is related to sticker shock more than anything else.
@@c123bthunderpig Hey, no worries here! I'll also admit to having been involved in modeling more or less consistently since the late 90's, so perhaps the increase in prices was just slow enough that it wasn't noticeable, but looking back it's a bit of a shock. I remember being able to get kits from saving a little of my lunch money here and there, but these days it's almost as much as a full dinner going out!
Roger that - going back a little further we'd go out and collect "pop" bottles" a couple of weekends, recycle them for nickel a piece and buy two AMT kits to build rest of month, It is indeed tough to try and find an ancillary budget to borrow from. Now I have to dip into my beer money and even my twelve year old Malt Scotch budgets😎@@fenrismodels
The Corsair is one of the only aircraft I have made, brush painted with humbrol dark blue or something like that. But now comes the query, should I try one, although I have not made an aircraft in around 2 years? It is your decision,Fenris, and the rest of you here :)
I will always recommend giving it a go! Corsairs I don't think are any more difficult than any other aircraft. Then again, they *are* my favorite plane, so I am a little biased haha!
Have a great build. I look forward to the sequel.
You and me both haha! Debating if I am going to do both in one video, or separate them out.
Finally getting to watch this. Very nice review! Can't wait to see you build this. Glad you found the clear sprue. Cheers
Thanks! Yeah, I am quite excited to start in on it.
I want this!! It looks stunning!!
I'm very impressed with it. Went to start in on it today, in fact, but then realized that I'm out of US Interior Green!!! 😱
@@fenrismodels Do you have Salmon pink?? Start on the engine perhaps??

Never heard of Magic Factory. Made where? Thanks.
They're relatively new to the scene. I believe they are out of China, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the quality of the molds

Haha thanks, I still can't believe it fell as it did. And yeah, I love these nice sheets for color call-outs! They're very nice and sturdy!
With so many Corsairs in the collection maybe it is time to think about a to-scale representation of USS Enterprise to store them. 😁
Haha if I had the space. I wouldn't mind attempting a 1/200 Yamato one day, but I have NO idea where I'd put it.
Looks like everybody is imitating Eduards. This double build teen gets you two models in one kit for the price of 4 kits.

I would hope it improves on a kid released in 1998.
You'd think, but there's been so many Corsair kits that have come out between then and now that don't compare, so yeah, it's the leading contender

Sometimes I see a kit and know it's just too much for my skillset. This is one. Lol.
Honestly, it looks like a pretty easy build! I'd say give it a go! Luckily, there's not a ton of PE parts in there haha
Love the kit! I have seen some of these other kits in store.

I am very excited to build it! I've only heard good things about the company
