    I am enjoying your videos very much. You are a very engaging teacher, and you have a pleasant voice, speaking and singing. I'm trying the Bratty Ney, but I'm a little confused. Could you explain how making the "Ney" sound (using my tongue against the roof of my mouth) is supposed to affect my vocal cords? What is the connection between my tongue and my vocal cords? Aren't they completely separate from each other? Maybe you already have a video which answers this. If so, I'll get to it eventually. Thanks for your videos!

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sammy Yakonima Hi Sammy. Good questions. The "ney" isn't really about the tongue. The Ney is about keeping the vocal cords together, preventing them from separating or pulling apart which causes the crack or break feeling as you sing higher. If you do the exercises with the ney and the vocal cords disconnect, adding the bratty sound helps hold them together. If you are a pulled chest- high larynx vocal type, the bratty sound also helps reduce the mass or thickness of the vocal cords. You discontinue the bratty sound after you are successful doing those two things. If you don't know your vocal type take the PowerTest at www.powertosing.com/. Good luck to you Sammy!

    this is one of the most fantastic videos you have ever made because it explains in a clear and simple way how to solve the problem. In this regard, I would like to ask you the position of your mouth as you go upwards. The mouth always opens vertically, am I right? And as you go up the sound gets smaller, right?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Giuseppe. At first the vertical opening of your mouth is really helpful to help the vibrations move into your head. If the mouth opens horizontally, it's easy for the vowel to spread and splat and the larynx to come up. When you are first learning the sound might get smaller...or seem to. Often the audience hears a much stronger sound than you think. Over time, you will find the sound to be very powerful in your head voice.

    I don't think I'm doing the bratty sound correctly.. I feel straining

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Nate Wolfe Hi Nate: It can be very challenging to tell if you are doing something right or not. I've often been surprised listening to my own voice lessons. I think I'm doing it one way, and listening to the recording I hear I'm not doing it correctly. That being said, you might be straining too hard. You can make a bratty sound quietly. The whole reason for it is to make sure the vocal cords are staying connect and the bratty sound tends to thin the cords so it's easier to do higher without so much strain, weight, etc. Don't do it quite as hard or loud. Record yourself and compare it to what you thought you were doing. Get someone to listen to you as compared to the video and tell you if you are doing it the same way and what you can do to better mimic the demonstration. Another option is to go to powertosing.com and take the PowerTest and send the recording to me. Hope this helps.

    very cool it kind of works! no more break in the voice. but now, I feel like i have no volume anymore. will that come with practice as the vocal chords strengthen?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It's a new coordination so it takes some time. It's more about getting a balance in the voice. Be sure and reduce the loudness as you practice, otherwise chest voice will always overpower the middle and upper.

    So I just tried this, and it worked, but now I have an issue, my vocal cords are still thin when I don't want them to be, I can't make them thick again. what do i do.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What makes you think your vocal cords are thin?

    • @PlexsyMusic
      @PlexsyMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was kind of explained to me by the person who recommended this channel, after using this technique (as it was my first time attempting to use it) my throat felt a lot more open, which was good because it allowed me to sing higher notes as I had thinned out my vocal cords to use that range per the tutorial, however when I tried to hop back down to my lower more baritone speaking range I noticed my voice started cracking a lot more and I couldn't thicken up my vocal cords again, I was afraid that I had opened up my voice a bit more but I was unable to close it up again, but it was explained to me that it's a normal thing to happen after using a technique like this and after a few hours my voice went back to normal naturally, so I apologize, I was just a bit worried over something that seemed like a bigger issue at the time!

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlexsyMusic No this technique will allow complete flexibility in your voice. You can sing high and the next instant sing low and the vocal cords will adjust perfectly. The reason you couldn't hit the lower notes is because your larynx was high. Probably the larynx and chest voice was pulled up to high to begin with and remained high after you did it. Watch this video and follow the directions. th-cam.com/video/d0Ob8WGmvPc/w-d-xo.html

    Its been a year since I wanted to learn how to sing and I’ve been trying my best to “teach myself”. I am able to sing higher than I have before and have developed a vibrato, but I still don’t know my range or if I’m an alto or whatnot. Within a day of your videos, I’ve found my head voice. Thank you so much for that.
    But is it bad for me to sing songs high into my range, or is there a way to bring my voice “up there”?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not bad. The idea is to help you be able to sing high into your highest potential range without straining.
