Good question! You want to treat it all like a bar chord with your left hand and simply strum towards yourself. I use one finger per fret, but you can bar two frets with one finger if you have big hands. If it rings a little it is ok, it goes by fast. Hope that helps!!
That is called a "fret wrap" and it helps reduce string noise when I play. It looks like it's on the first fret, but actually it is juuuuuust behind the nut. They are very inexpensive and I highly suggest one if you are playing slap bass :)
