Was wondering if I could pay you to do my logo like this? I’m not into all the photoshopping I would much rather pay someone to do it. Please update me and let me know if this would be a possibility
6 years ago back in my college year . I used to watched your videos. Thank you for your help and tips. here I am happily employed with the wonderful animation campany :), . God bless you and your channel my friend.
You're f'ing brilliant. It isn't that you go through the steps, but that you go one step further (to improve) and then one step more (to improve the effect more). As a photographer, I'm enthralled by your ability to think of "okay, what can I do to get it a little closer?" Beautiful.
I don’t know how you don’t have more subscribers. I used to love you in high school and just found your channel again tonight. You’re doing awesome work! Keep it up!
This is amazing. I just used it to make an Aeropress gold, and as I did each step, I thought "boom - that's enough, I'm done", but each step added so much more to the final look! Thank you so much for sharing.
Lifesaver was really struggling to make a black matt product shot shine this worked well I just added the last step of making the layer colour burn worked really well many thanks
I know photoshop pretty well and I watched this with my mouth gaping open. Great job putting this all together! You also had some new tricks I've never seen. New loyal follower.
I really appreciate your job. thanks for supplying us with the data .keep it up.,,, Amazing place with the hard job you have completed Good Working Thanks for sharing keep it up.
Thank you... I am hoping I can follow along ok. I watched once all the way through first... now I will go step by step... Trying to turn reaching hands to a Bronze color... Thanks for your guidance.
DUDE!! Thankyou for such a concise, effective and quick video on such a great effect. Keep up the good work and you earned this new subscriber. I also just saw you have a mailing list, I'm going to sign up to that as well! Thanks.
You could always find a great bronze image via a Google image search, drop it into PS, then posterize it, specifying 3 or 4 colors, and sample those values to use for the gradient instead of these gold values.
Is there a (hopefully illustrated) transcript available? I have only my small laptop to work with, and a smartphone to watch the video on, and much of the time I can't see what you're doing.
This AWESOME. But I can't follow it. On videos like these, the screen is just to small to see what you are clicking on. What version of Photoshop do you have. I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.
thanks for the fab tutorial. i have tried this but i cannot match your gold colour. i used the same 3 figures but mine is more orange than gold... on my screen yours looks a perfect gold and mine is way off... any advice would be most grateful.. thanks mark
Hey Chris, a cool tutorial and an awesome effect, thanks! Great to use on most pod products but how would it look on a t-shirt, would the colours become muted?
Can you record an action of this with stops in it so that we can add our own highlights and other things we feel may enhance our own images? It's a LOT of steps, and I feel it would be simplified with an action. Maybe start it after we've created our own selection.
I managed to use this once before, but coming back to it now I'm stuck at about 4:11 where the Gradient Editor, with your saved colors, seems to pop up automatically as soon as you create the Gradient Map layer. I'm not getting any of that. I saved the three colors using your Pantone specifications, and they went into the Libraries tab. But I don't see how to apply them to the image. ETA: I do get the Gradient Editor panel as you did, but my saved colors aren't available to it. Do you have another video I need to watch on how to create and save gradient presets? I can't imagine how I managed to use this a few months ago and now I'm simply stuck here.
Maybe its becase the colors are pantone? and to use pantone now you need to pay $15 a month. I just tried to do this and when I enter his color for brown it gives me a blue.
Would this work just as well for making something look like it was chrome? Such as when colorizing a B&W photo of a car and trying to make the bumper look chromed?
How long did it take you to separate the subject from the background using the trace method? Since you mentioned the quick and easy method as being the select subject tool and the issues you found with it, I would really appreciate your opinion on an alternative method I would've found myself using (at least specifically for that part) as I know there are numerous ways to go about this as shown on other channels. But in any case, I would've gone with the Magic Wand Tool to select the black background and then adjust the Tolerance while adding the selection of the floor at a suitable level as to not select the subject's hand, before finally inversing the selection. To address the issue of rough hair selection as well as the clipping not being very neat, I would use the Refine Edge option under Select and adjusting the Smoothness to remove the rough clipping, and then adjusted the radius, contrast, and shift edge amounts to select less of the fine strands of hair. Though, I'm not sure how much faster that would've been, it just seems for me, I would've taken much longer to try and trace the subject so precisely as you have and wanted to hear your thoughts on the method I mentioned.
Well where my gradient properties is supposed to be isn't changing from pixel properties. I tried resetting my work space multiple times. Is there another way to apply the effect 4:30
Great technique, however I've found it doesn't work on "all" photos. You have to have some good definitive lights and darks. Also some photos just never look right, they don't have that reflective metal effect because of lack of detail or contrast.
Adi, first check that you are in RGB mode and not CYMK. Also, the Oil Paint is in Filter>Stylize>Oil Paint... not in the Filter Gallery. Hope this helps.

I actually managed to do it, thanks man!
You’re a live saver
amazing
What would be good colors for the gradient map that would make it look bronze rather than gold?
You could always find a great bronze image via a Google image search, drop it into PS, then posterize it, specifying 3 or 4 colors, and sample those values to use for the gradient instead of these gold values.
Awesome tutorial!
Very good. Thank you!
Very nice waah
Lovely! I must try this! Thank you for supplying your channel with these cool hacks :-)
Wow.... love to try this but can I remember all the steps :)
Is there a (hopefully illustrated) transcript available? I have only my small laptop to work with, and a smartphone to watch the video on, and much of the time I can't see what you're doing.
I usually add subtitles to my videos, so you should find you can see the spoken words on screen by turning on TH-cam’s captions
Hi there how do i apply all 3 preset gradients in to one preset to get the overall gold preset please
WOW fantastic skill :^) really thanks I must try this!

Thank you very much! This was new to me and I will definetly give it a try!
This is fantastic, thank you!

Hey Chris, a cool tutorial and an awesome effect, thanks! Great to use on most pod products but how would it look on a t-shirt, would the colours become muted?
I needed this thank you......
This effect is available in photoshop express?
Funnily enough, i've just been asked to do this by a client.
Can you record an action of this with stops in it so that we can add our own highlights and other things we feel may enhance our own images?
It's a LOT of steps, and I feel it would be simplified with an action. Maybe start it after we've created our own selection.
Press pause?
I can see this being used for gold toilet roll
:-) :-D
I made it! It's on my instagram @seo_ricky :)

Wow, thats just what I need ... but need to do a Photoshop course i think... mainly use Ai and this is a bit different... thanks :-)
Nice
it would be great if you can slow down and show detailed steps for slower learners like myself
Would this work just as well for making something look like it was chrome? Such as when colorizing a B&W photo of a car and trying to make the bumper look chromed?
John H yeah he says it in the video
@@samstallings4198 Thanks...darn I missed that!
John H you’re all good lol it happens!
Hey spoon! How many years have passed since you start?
13 years since I started my Spoon Graphics blog, 5 years since I started this Spoon Graphics TH-cam Channel! 👴😮
@@spoongraphics For how many years have you used Photoshop already?

Did you figure it out
Trying to do this with a logo that's already black and white, the duplication/difference/merge - make no changes at all to the image
good

cool
this is not working for me u used normal blend mode for the gold gradient but the layer took the effect how was that ???
Could it be the case that you added a Gradient adjustment layer, rather than a Gradient Map adjustment layer?
@@spoongraphics yes u are right thank you so much
TF did I just watch. This is dark magic 🤯
what if I don't have option to do the oil paint filter? :(
Adi, first check that you are in RGB mode and not CYMK. Also, the Oil Paint is in Filter>Stylize>Oil Paint... not in the Filter Gallery. Hope this helps.
@@andyhackethal7693 Thank you, Andy! Is it only working on 8bit RGB?
@@adisatrio3871 Chris is working in 8 bit. Look at his document tab. It reads: (Layer 1 RGB/8)*
@@adisatrio3871 If your video card does not support OpenCL v1.1, the Oil Paint will be greyed out.
What version of PS?
Can POD companies print this gold effect on to t-shirts?
Daaaayyyumm..
before anyone tries this just note that all it did was make my photo black and white
mine doesn't have the shine? what should I do?
