Man I've been on the biggest break of my life and what'd weird is after getting past that first month the years go by. As a former everyday online poker player I would grind 50 hours a week average and just not win. It was honestly destroying my life. It also put me with toxic ppl and I met the worst person ever when I moved here. After be honest with myself it was a sad day when I knew I couldn't make even a part time income off poker and had to take a gigantic break. Haven't played since, met a beautiful wife, work as a poker dealer go figure, but my life is so much better and I listen to Jonathan little all the time. Thank you so much dude . This is therapy to me lol
All I wanted for Valentine’s Day is a nice poker session 😬. I ‘had’ poker before meeting my husband so he knew what it meant to me. But took a long break to have 4kids over 10 years and just got back into the game last March. First it started as 1 or 2 nights a week after kids were in bed. From 8pm to midnight. Then I realizes I needed more practice and became 3 or 4 nights a week from 8 pm - 2/3 am. I would play every day if I could, but trying to balance has been tough. Appreciate being able to take time to study as a PCP member ❤

Don’t worry about not getting to play 24/7. People enjoy things less the more they do something. I can attest to that with poker. Spent 6 months playing full time and can say it’s a lot more fun (and even profitable) to just play busy weekday nights and weekends.
All I want is for my casino to open again! They shut down at the beginning of Covid, and when they could open again, they decided to do a $100 million renovation project, so the poker room is still closed down! Won't be open until later this spring, apparently 🙁

This is an excellent video. Watching this while playing .25/.50, 3-betting when out of position has made me more money. Sticking to the preflop range has made me more money. RFI tip has made me more solid at the table, and getting paid whenever I hit! Thank you for all these tips JL.

I play 1/2 or 2/5 every weekend at my local casino and can tell you I can count on one hand the number of times people 1) 4-bet anything other than AA or KK preflop or 2) bluff shoved the river. You will absolutely make more $$ over folding rather than trying to pick off the 5% or less who can make these moves. Great video!
cuz ppl who play smaller table r more likely not being super rich and afraid to lose big hands, so yeah ppl wld be betting less and play relatively tight. However if u playing in a home game with boys thats a whole different level lmao.

Question on the first Hack...If we're able to open wider because we're not getting 3 bet alot, wouldn't we still raise tighter since players are calling too wide?. I would assume Our preflop open range has the EV it does because it's taking in account we have proper fold equity?
Most people who were asking questions in the chat seem to be worried about being beaten in any individual hand. What they need to realize is that if you value bet on the river 20 times and get check raised off a winner 3 times and called by a better hand 3 times and get called for 2/3 of the pot 8 times and the opponent folds 6 times, you will still be way ahead over checking. Thin value bets and not bluff-catching players who don't bluff is the difference between being a winner and a loser at 1/2.

What do you do when a limper is in front of you preflop, your range must.be stronger right. You don't want to raise with k6 suited with 3 limps in front of you?

Yes, but it does not impact the size of the pot.
Jonathen, I rarely see 4 bets ever! I see it go from 3 bet to ALL IN! When do you 4 bet, and when do you go all in??

You probably have not played small stakes poker in A long Time. I am not an expert or pro. I do play a decent amount of 1/2 2/5 in Los Angeles area you are right there is Very little 3 beat(almost none) that's because in Smaller stakes it's Usually Bet then a Raise followed By All in. No one really call's A 3 bet in Small stakes live cash games. It gets all in pre flop most of the time if there is a 3rd bet and players want to continue. There definitely NO 4 Bets at the Smaller stakes Live cash games

That KJ hand facing a triple barrel is classic. Calling the river there in a vacuum makes you the exact person we're trying to exploit by going 3 streets with the KQ hand earlier - people who never fold top pair. That said, I had virtually that exact same situation yesterday (except I bet he called flop, then I checked and he bet turn and river) and I'd have folded QJ on a Q high board... except when I decided to give up, I looked up at him again and he was just staring me dead in the eyes not blinking. Snapped it off when I saw that and he had a missed straight draw. So this great advice is definitely player/live tell dependent.
Many of the charts I see say never open limp..... what about when there are 2 or 3 or 4 Limpers b4 it gets to you, raise right? Also what about when someone raises to 15 n 2 more ppl call( total of 3) should I 3 bet still???
yes correct, still raise, i usually cut out the bottom part of my range (the weaker hands) and adjust the sizing +1bb for every limper
@Mirko Colic ok.... so if we are cutting out bottom of our range.... then we are folding or calling for 2nd part of my Question?
oh sry somehow missed that part, (assuming 15 means a standard raise and not 15bb) i would say same principle applies here, tighten your range and the more people involved the bigger the sizing (lets say my standard raise is 3x and for 3+ people 4-5x the initial raise size, e.g. 3 -> 9bb and for more people 3 -> 12-15bb) and again tighten the range. keep in mind the goal of this is to isolate opponents with your strong hands to get maximum equity, e.g. AK or AA plays terrible in multiway pots. another tip for multiway is to maybe take some of the hands you usually raise with to call. good example is KQs or J10s, those are good raising candidates but play beautifully multiway postflop as well. hope this helps a bit

Never limp and adjust the charts to the limper. You have to adjust the charts not follow strictly
If you have 14bb winrate and have say 33 Buy-ins I dont understand how you can afford to take 3 Buy-In swings on losing days. thats only 11 days of a downswing. Can someone elaborate on how this is a good idea? Or are we just playing 1 Buy-In a day?

What happens when you're playing 1/2 cash and it's normal to get 3-4 players calling a 15x BB raise? And then 10 minutes later you see a $600 pot with top pair vs middle pair?
I feel like over-raising in this type of situation is a mistake. Limp calling then shipping huge bets when I hit the flop seems to work nicely in this situation.
That exposes you to get outdrawn by the majority of the fishes you find in small stakes games.

You might as well see the flop for cheaply then bet heavily with the best hand when you hit the flop... Sometimes you get out drawn, sure, but it's easy to tell when you have.
So ace king should always be a 3bet against low stakes players cuz know you’re getting 4 bet by hands that generally beat you (aces/kings)…and you’re getting calls by hands you generally dominate (ak/aj/a10/kq).
This is simplified, but I’m trying to ensure my logic is right

It seems like there are hundreds of these charts. What are there, like 9 per position? How is it possible to memorize all these charts?
All it takes is repetition.

Thank you for covering the subject of open limping. No, you don't want to do it in most games. But there are times when the game is so tight you need to open limp just to get enough equity in the pot to make your hand realize more equity post flop. And too many players just don't understand this concept.
No. You just help them avoid their huge mistake of playing too tight preflop.
@@willguggn2 not true, especially if you notice the players who are tight folding frequently to continuation bets on the flop, turn or river. Know your opponents, and you can exploit them often.

Ppl bluff but he says it’s rare at 1/2- 2/5 I don’t get what’s so hard and it’s true. Unless you have a drunk or maniac most of the time it’s rare to see a big river bluff and you usually know when it’s someone capable if you pay attn.

Depends on your player type and whatever draw they're chasing.
i cant count the amount of times I have been called by bottom pair in low stakes game on paired boards/1 to the straight/1 to the flush. Small stakes attracts calling stations, its also the reason you tend to bet much bigger, players will just not fold if they have anything (ofc depends on the table but this has been my experience). The amount of times I have bet 1.5x, 2x pot on the river with top pair and get called by Ace high is ridiculous as well so, so as long as you're aware and exploiting, you can make a lot of money by rarely bluffing and always piling the money in as much as possible.
What’s most profitable in small stakes is maximizing your value from your made hands. Bluffing/bluff catching can be profitable depending on the situation and knowledge of your opponent, but is definitely not essential.

In the chart, you should three-bet more with pocket 10s than pocket JJs which makes absolutely no sense to me.
Might not make sense in most live games, but I think the logic is that JJs tends to flop better/ have more playability, and therefore don't require the fold equity and are more willing to take a flop.
I agree with Marshall. Also if you get 4 bet, you should be more willing to fold TT than JJ. Thus, 3- betting with TT goes up a notch.

At 25, I played out of town in a big game, with all of my money on the table and an angry armed girlfriend at home and I did not give a fuck. Your advice is wonderful but I am 78 and I still don't care. It's not a way to live but it's been an edge at the table.
I used to pay to see a flop every time, and I got way more success breaking that habit.
I would rather say "dang, would have flopped a straight" then say "dang, I should have just folded, that was a waste."
The best advice for improving anyone's game is to just play as much as possible.
Experience is the best teacher, and you gotta learn you are dealt/flopped complete trash waaaaaaay more often than the best hand, and chasing gut shots rarely pays off.

When you say that players think they "must be GTO" or "must be exploitative" is a misleading statement. GTO doesn't actually exist IN GAME. GTO refers to what a computer would do facing another computer. It's only a point of reference for study purposes. In game, nobody is capable of playing GTO. Even if you are, that means that you're not adjusting to other players' tendencies and mistakes; or in other words, being exploitative.

Great advice for the high rollers. Small stakes poker doesn't really work this way. You are finding yourself in a multipot 99% of the time. Wanna steal blinds? No way they let you do that. There are no charts for 4 limpers, there are charts for RFI only. You raise 10BB - you have 5 calls. You 3-bet RFI, 2 calls at least. Great if you flopped two pair, not great if you didn't flop anything and the board is too wet. The simplest way to play tiny cash is to let people see the flop, bet a pot, everyone folds, except for the callcenters and nuts. In the end it would be the same amount of money you are investing and thanks to the callcenters you'd double. But risking more money with KQs even in the position against 5 people - what's the point? These people run you over and over again and who has a bankroll for 1-2 cash gamer? Who really have 30K just for poker fun?
Only once (!) I had a great time playing 1-3 after a tournament with 6 other people who actually studied theory of poker. Best 150 bucks spent on poker, although I lost the last hand with AQ on BB against AA on SB :D
people are getting old, they can't see the cards correctly and their brains are not as sharp as at 25.That's why they are misreading their hands. lol
