  • Multi time off road racing champion Jason Voss suffered the worst crash of his career when his trophy truck flipped several times at the Best in the Desert Bluewater Classic in Parker, AZ. In this video we see the Trophy truck crash from several angles, even an on board go pro shot of the off road truck accident, get an injury update on Jason Voss from his good friend Steve Olliges, and watch as racers try to finish the event with Voss on their minds.

I was on the right hand side of the track when this happened right in front of me. These drivers were on it! Justin Lofton in the FOX #41 truck made a great move to the right to avoid hitting Jason Voss as he rolled and flipped multiple times. It happened so fast yet it seemed like it took forever for Voss's truck to come to a final stop. When the dust settled around Jason's truck here come two more race trucks full bore. Voss's truck was laying on it's left side very close to the course and again a couple more racers went by. A BITD safety and rescue truck was on the scene right away and spectators were hollering to stop the race. Everyone with hand held radios were trying to let the officials know this was a bad wreck and the race was Red Flagged. To show how great the sportsmanship is between competitors Justin Lofton, completing lap #1, drove back to the accident site to see how Voss and his co-driver were doing. As the videos show the truck rolling from different views this could have been much worse. This just goes to show how well these race trucks are built and the safety equipment that is in place to protect the racers. Justin Lofton's fast acting reflexes and expertise as a well seasoned off road race driver was amazing as well. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Jason Voss. To him this was probably just a little bump in the road!

Alright, I’ll come right in and explain myself and clear this up since a lot of folks seem concerned, which I wholeheartedly appreciate, but there’s a little bit to it. Before the race, I review the things I need to keep track of during the race, aside from navigation. It’s a long list, some days more so than others. During qualifying, the radio stopped transmitting, so between qualifying and the race, we had to replace the radio at our trailer, with what resources we brought with us. The radio we were using and the radio we ended up with were not the same manufacturer, the mounting holes were a different spread, and the replacement unit was much narrower and more shallow. These radios are side-mounted, so without getting into too much detail, we adapted it. The replacement was mounted pretty darn secure for being in a pinch, but it wasn’t *as* secure as it was prior to its replacement. I was told to keep a relaxed eye on it, but everyone was confident that it would be fine.
Cut to the moment we left the lip of that jump, and we both knew instantly that it was going to potentially be a bad time. A moment later, the horizon disappears past the top of window, rocks and dirt whizzing by, and horizon reappears at the bottom of my window, at just under 100 miles an hour; que the bad time.
You’ll notice in the video that the radio itself is directly above my head. When I put my hand up there, I’m not “grabbing the cage” (which is impossible with the massively thick, and literally impenetrable plate bolted directly against the cage), what I’m actually doing there is trying my best to support the radio and keep that copper wound brick from ripping out of the truck, because when we stop flipping in a minute, I’m really gonna need to make a call! Plus that unit is pretty heavy, especially at more than 8 Gs, and had it come loose, it might have seriously added to our ass-kicking. At the G’s of initial impact, it would have been like a frickin cannonball.
Could I have lost some fingers? While I do sincerely appreciate the concern, Absolutely not. In anything other than this truck, definitely. But you have to understand what you’re looking at here, it isn’t a SXS with a canvas bikini zip-tied to the roll cage, it’s a pretty state-of-the-art TT.
My first thought is always to grab my belts in a crash, and that is what I endorse and recommend for anyone in the event of a crash, 100% of the time.

This is why I always grip the belts tight with my arms crossed if I'm riding as a passenger.
Screw holding onto any oh-shit handles, I want my arms as close to me as possible last thing I want is my arms extended in a roll over.
Obviously co driver has to operate the GPS and stuff in this case.

Hmm 🤔 hope I a, wrong, but it looks as it the rear diff was limited slip. Truck comes off the ground, throttle is on when it landed but only one rear wheel, passenger side grabbed, front end got light on the second landing bounce causing the veering to the left and subsequent loss of contact with the dirt. No driver error here.
