I've been a fan of Doctor Who for going on 40 years and recognize the ups and downs with every regeneration. The first few episodes of this season were so painful to watch... just shockingly bad. But the show got better with each episode. It's still nowhere near as good as it was a few years ago, but also not nearly as bad as the online hate mob made it out to be. I like Gatwa's acting chops, but his persona just never carried the gravitas of being The Doctor for me. At least not yet.
When I initially like a show I tend to stick with it. Maybe it's a mild OCD thing; I've started so I'll finish. When Jodie Whitaker became Doctor Who I approached the show with an open mind like I do with any new Doctor. I wasn't keen on the writing but I hung on. The Timeless Children did not help. When Ncuti and RTD took over I hoped for a return to the decent storytelling of the Eccleston era. I didn't get it. As the series progressed I stuck with it but I became aware that I was treating it like wallpaper. It was there in the background but I was easily distracted by other activities. I liked Neighbours when it began but the shift towards dominant storylines about teenage angst meant I was no longer invested in the programme. I stopped watching. It's not just TV series but with movie franchises the break is less gradual. When Ryan Johnson "treated us" to the Last Jedi fiasco, breaking the lore and giving us SuperLeia, I left the cinema vowing not to add to the Star Wars coffers in any future movie. No doubt Doctor Who will continue with a new demographic of fans. Maybe they will be in sufficient numbers and they will enjoy Doctor New. Might be delulu but for me the way Millie spoke about people recreating her scar spoke volumes to me as that she has previously been self conscious about her unique mark but feels so seen by people copying it.
Millie got a whole lot prettier in San Diego. The numbers weren't phenomenal, but the brand itself should keep it going for awhile. Chibnall's dumping all the history of the show in his first season was a fatal move that the other two couldn't make up for. Davies' embracing it has helped.

I think Ncuti is amazing as The Doctor, and although I had issues with some elements RTD decided to introduce into the new series, overall I really enjoyed the first Ncuti Gatwa series. Hope he is around for awhile.
I had high hopes for Mr Gatwa. While he ticked a few diversity boxes, I was eager to see him portray the Doctor because I've enjoyed his other works . Whata disappointment. RTD looks genuinely uncomfortable. He knows he blew it. He knows most of the old fans aren't with him anymore and the woke stuff is scaring away more potential viewers than its gaining. All the cringey identity politics and dialog that sounded so good when he was writing the scripts during the pandemic. Huffing all the woke farts from his friends. I rewatched the Star Beast the other day and the pronoun lecture and "male presenting" dialog is even worse than I remembered. In the future, when hollywood is done trying to "educate" viewers and back to entertaining them, it's gonna be hard to explain to first time viewers what the heck they're even talking about. ...oh and don't look for any help from a potential Star Trek crossover: he's a Discovery fan 🤢🤮
Does he? He looks very happy to be here. The BBC have listed how much of a success it's been for them financially, they've announced a spin off, and Season 2 is still in production. Many new channels have started reacting to the show internationally, and consistently, each week Doctor Who would be in the Top 10 watched shows on Disney Plus. Has the Season been perfect? No, ofcourse it hasn't, some moments like the line in The Star Beast were written pretty roughly and needed better integration into the plot. In regards to "woke" stuff, whilst the word itself is incredibly overused and misused, I'm going to have to pretend to know what you mean. Identity politics haven't really been brought up, like at all, except maybe for a few seconds in The Devils Chord. The scripts have been fairly good, and haven't really been any more political than Series 4. Series 4 was incredibly political, I mean go back and you might be surprised by just how political it is. Politics isn't anything new for the show, just remember, 18 years after WW2 ended, Doctor Who in its second story did a story entirely revolving around far right fascism, which would have been very "woke" for the time. I dont think being "Woke" is the problem, if you want to make a properly constructed argument, you would say its the fact the writing has made the themes more obvious. Not a problem with "woke", just awareness.
@@DalekCaanOfSkaro When you mention "bbc listing how much of a finsncial success it's been for them," you might want to look at which years precisely they are referring to, because it's not this recent iteration they're referring to. Also, a second series and the spinoff were part of the initial agreement, and s1 & 2 were filmed back-to-back, so the only thing we can tell from any of these points is that the reception was not so bad that it'd be worth their while to get out of the contract and/or discard episodes unreleased. However each corporation is judging its success or failure, none of what you listed is evidence one way or another.

Now, in terms of ratings, if you look on IMDb, a total of 8 episodes from The Star Beast - now have at the very least a 7 / 10, at the very most an 8.2 / 10. In fact, the only episodes to have less than 7 / 10 are: CORR, Empire of Death, Devil’s Chord, Space Babies. 4 episodes out of 12, have less than a 7 / 10, so I’d say that’s pretty good. As for viewing figures, the viewing system has changed a lot since they started dropping episodes on iPlayer so a lot of ppl don’t watch it on broadcasts because they instead prefer to either watch it at Midnight, or during the day. There’s less incentive to watch it while it’s on so those viewing figures ultimately mean so much less than they used to.
“Hall Haitch” 🙄 - it annoys me when people mispronounce ‘H’ but when they put it after another word that already has an ‘H’ sound it really emphasises it somehow.
It's this kind of mentality that worries me. Doctor Who is a TV Show, something you press a button on a streaming service to watch. It's a choice, not forced on you. If you don't like, you are not being forced to watch it Clockwork Orange style. If you don't like it, and you are entitled not to, then just stop watching. But don't demand a show to be cancelled and take away the choice for those who do enjoy it to stop them watching it, and wish for all those jobs to be lost. Doctor Who is a giant thing for Welsh media production, and has done so much for that country. You have a choice to not watch it, but you demanding that choice be removed is something that is harsh to those who are allowed to enjoy it.

Russell faces a big task. He's an older fan and the sheer drag on the consciousness of the older fan is considerable. Do I think he is entirely successful in countering that? Perhaps. But in doing so, it's like he devalues it. Ultimately this series must land in the pocket of a newer generation of creators; those who are aware of the pitfalls of 'trending' but also know that it has to be true to itself. It's not the war between the land and the sea - it's the war between the past and the future.

I'd like to say something good about season 1, but not really, I got more and more bored as I watched the episodes, and god, that ending, please... I hope they do something good soon.
Loved their first season together. Ncuti and Millie are great together! Looking forward to another season with them!
Bruh they fully have the star treck crossover planned already I mean look at their faces 😂😂😂 15:33
Except Kurtzman Trek isn't _genuine_ Star Trek
This would really mean an awful lot of money to get the rights for both...

Worst Rating in 62 years of the show. Nuff said
No more seasons please give it a rest! .. it's not season 2 either, that in its own right is so arrogant it's unbelievable!
Bland questions, bland answer's, they look ill at ease and after this last season it's damage limitation. Been a fan for over 50 years, Doctor I let you go. 😔
Might be delulu but for me the way Millie spoke about people recreating her scar spoke volumes to me as that she has previously been self conscious about her unique mark but feels so seen by people copying it.
Been a fan of Doctor Who since Tom Baker, but Ncuti Gatwa has won my heart as my new favorite doctor! Can't wait for season 2!
You're not a real fan
Millie got a whole lot prettier in San Diego. The numbers weren't phenomenal, but the brand itself should keep it going for awhile. Chibnall's dumping all the history of the show in his first season was a fatal move that the other two couldn't make up for. Davies' embracing it has helped.
Ncuti Gatwa was fucking legendary in this series - Capaldi is my Doctor through and through, but Ncuti absolutely slayed it
Facts
The main problem that I had with last season is that the final two episodes made no sense. The plot is broken and they just hand wave it away.
How did they not make sense?
@@benjamindavis4974 lemme run it down for you.
1. Why did ruby’s mom point at the sign? I know it was explained as her naming ruby but that’s just stupid.
2. Why did Sutekh care about ruby’s mom so much? Why did she differ from the thousands of other faces he saw around the tardis for centuries?
3. You’re telling me that Sutekh was on the tardis when it was blowing up in the finale for series 5? or just sat there for the decades during 73 yards? What happened when 15 cloned 14’s tardis? Are there two Sutekhs now?
4. Sutekh can read minds. He could have just read ruby’s mind after she smashed the tablet.
5. The way the doctor found ruby’s mom was really just through dna in the future. An alien with a brilliant mind really couldn’t think to simply go 30 years to the future where there was better technology?
There’s many more things that I didn’t mention. Maybe someone else can list some?

Also, how does dragging Sutekh through the time vortex magically undo him killing planets? It would just kill him.

R.I.P Doctor Who 1963 - 2017
And to you.
He has been written as a cowardly, shallow flibberty jibbert who cries every 5 minutes, needs help all the time and is basically a stereotype gay guy. He could have been a Doctor who just happened to be gay , oh and black. Instead RTD had made the first Black / Gay Doctor a massive Pu55y.
For example he is always running away scared. For 60 years he's been the stoic hero, now he runs away. In 7 episodes it's other people that save the day - if you pay attention.
1 - NannE saves the space babies
2 - Devils Chord- Beatles save the day
3 - Boom - The AI saves the day
4 - 73 yards - nothing happens in the end
5 - DotNBubble - Everyone goes to their death.
6 - Rogue - Rogue saves the day, the Dr is incompetent and focuses on getting his end away rather than check on his companion.
7 - a soldier dies
8 - Hooray finally he saves everyone.
All that aside the terrible editing.
The DEI overload - what few white men appear are idiots / die.
The finale ? MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT- RTD plundering from original Lore but then pees all over it. The man is tired and creatively bankrupt and embarrassment to the legacy.
@@Knaveofspades6 While I may not agree with you about Ncuti (who, remember, was only reading what was in the scripts he was given to perform), we are in total agreement regarding RTD. He added totally unnecessary elements to the series that only alienated a lot of the fans, and the "reveal" of Ruby's mother alone, after the huge buildup, was quite frankly unforgiveable. I loved new who. The ratings tells the whole story. David and Christopher are what revived the series.
The ratings that aren't very good you mean?

@@TheDeviantPro Ah yes, the man who not only brought the show back to begin with, not only crafted the two only good spin-off shows we’ve ever had, but also came back when it was on the verge of being cancelled thanks to Chibnall and then made it better than it had been in years, yes, absolute hack behaviour, of course(!)
Now, in terms of ratings, if you look on IMDb, a total of 8 episodes from The Star Beast - now have at the very least a 7 / 10, at the very most an 8.2 / 10. In fact, the only episodes to have less than 7 / 10 are:
CORR, Empire of Death, Devil’s Chord, Space Babies.

Why not just stop watching?
Thousands of jobs lost, think

How was the latest season of Dr. Who, in two words, IT SUCKED!!!!!!!!!
Celebrating a show that no one really liked or cared about .... interesting.
"Sheer drag on the older consciousness " 😂 how rude!
