It’s 2022 and 5 years since this video came out. With Russia being sanctioned and tube production greatly reduced, along with getting older and not wanting to lug my 45 lb Vibroverb to the local blues jam, I got into serious research mode on pedal amps. The newer Superblocks look really cool, but I love the utter simplicity of The Microblock 45. This demo holds up. Well shot, great playing. Very helpful!
I built a 2-10 vertical slant top cab for mine. 2 8ohm Eminence Rajin Cajun speakers. Closed back non ported cab. You gotta run it into 4 ohms to milk the 45 watts out of it. Signal order to the cabinet for me is Boss tu-2 to Boss CS-3(always on) to Boss BD-2 to Fulltone OCD to Ibanez Tone Lok Chorus(rarely used) to Moore Ana-Echo to Ernie Ball VP then Quilter then Cabinet. You gotta run it hot master wide open, gain 1 oclock tone 3oclock. It stays relatively clean until you peg the gain. I boost up the level and tone on my compressor pedal mainly because the cabinet adds so much bottom. It screams!!! It's a joke how good it sounds and how loud it gets. I have owned plenty amps. Really good ones too. This is my main amp. Played a New Years Eve gig with a band that uses zero stage volume. Lined out of the headphone out and it was incredible. All the tone and response was spot on. Best 169 dollar buy ever.
This is the first vid of yours I've seen, and I loved it. Your playing style and overall character does nothing but make me smile. Thanks for bringing a big chunk of happiness to my day!
What a fantastic player you are, good sir. Clicked on the video because I’m getting into the whole grab'n'go amp deal but I stayed because of the marvelous playing and taste, kudos!
I love quilter. I've been using the US block for 2 years now. So easy to use live. If this box had an XLR out for direct, it would literally be perfect. I like going direct in live and just use a speaker monitor for stage volume. That's why I love the US block.
Best guitar petal review player !!!! Always enjoy your videos. Your channel is my feel good place to go. I am not a guitar player... Just get so much bliss from the videos!!!!!! THANK YOU 😎
Great video! Planning to buy amp to use with a tech 21 tm30 cab! Amp went out and I never liked it anyway! Took the chassis off and will seal the back up and then glue it to the back!
I'm need to your channel and find that you are one hell of a guitar player, Love that Quilter tone block 45 when I go in to the studio to rehearse Instead of using the broken down amplifiers or taking mine I could Use that and get a great tone. Also Giggling out can use AS a Spare.
Wow, great job at showing good tones for such a small price. Might get this little guy and a nice 1x12 cab for living room practice with pedals. This would also give me time to save for a good tube amp head later on if I want. You're an awesome player and presenter! You get right to the point but you keep it fun the whole time!
I just purchased one of these and run it through a Marshall 1936 cabinet and it is very comparable to my hotrod Deville 2x12 tube amp.that's crazy. you need more clean head room? I run it through a EP booster pedal and also a mosfet fulltone 2 Pedal and that pretty much does everything. this is going to be my main rig I think I might get the quilter 2 by 8 cabinet which weighs 30 lb so my whole Guitar Rig is going to weigh under 40 lb got to love that.
I have a Toneblock 200, which is great. My rhythm guitarist got a Micro Block earlier this year and I love it. I'll be getting one for sure. This is the best demo I've seen of this amp so far. Thanks for actually demonstrating it's capabilities in good detail.
I finally got one of these amps. It's a winner. I've got it on my DIY mini pedalboard with 8 pedals for the ultimate compact rig. I posted a vid of it, demo to follow.
I only recently discovered you watching gear reviews (black spirit 200). You’re a lot of fun to watch. I haven’t googled your name yet to see who you are but I plan to. I’m a subscriber now! Thanks for being on here and sharing your chops with us and your thoughts on all the great new products & Happy New Year !!
but in the end the pedal is not exactly just a power amp. if you have a preamp this pedal is probably altering too much the sound of your chosen preamp. it is hard to find guiar power amplication whose purpose is just to amplify as precisely as possible the input signal of the preamp without distorting any further. kind of like a good hi fi amplifier does...
I love the difference between how you sound with that Yamaha as opposed to that super sexy Teley with the Bigsby that I covet with a tenacity unforeseen by mankind. Super cool pedal, lots of utility.
Both guitars are definitely my go-tos. That is why I use them in almost all my vids :) I still am surprised by how well Yamaha nailed this new guitar; my wow factor went into overdrive when I first plugged it in.
With moving to a city apartment being a reality in the near future I find this interesting as this may be the way to go without getting evicted (which my tube combo most definitely will). Would you say this sounds good at bedroom levels and takes more than OD pedals well (and retains their sound at lower outputs)? If so I most definitely will procure one :) Awesome as always Jay! Would be interesting to see you do a bedroom playing vid for all us out there who struggle with neighbours
Yeah! The headphone jack goes a long way. One trick to make sure the volumes don't get too crazy is to plug it into a 16ohm cab: that will reign the output in a little bit without any harm to the box :)
My microblock doesn't sound like that at all. I'm looking at upgrading the guitar player. Or just more practice, with headphones. Otherwise I'll be banished to setup in the garage.
So could u go guitar - quilter micro block 45 - torpedo live ? Or could u sit on the couch and plug a guitar into the quilter and just run a headphone out from the quilter?
Thanks for the video! I just got one to put under the xmas tree. It is great, but had a loud 50Hz hum because there is no ground connection. As I added a ground cable from the power plug the hum was completely gone. Did you have the same issue?
No ground connection? That's not possible. You should have spoke to mr. Quilter. Yes he do replies to his emails himself. Certainly he would've replaced the unit for you on the spot! That's hit personal brand, QSC is actually the same guy (Quilter Sound Company) he does it almost for fun only lol
Unlike something like the EHX 44 Magnum, the MicroBlock 45 is a 2in1 with a power amp AND preamp styled from their ToneBlock 200 Amp. Any booster pedal I use will react in the same way as boosting the preamp of any guitar amp out there :)
Hi, the headphone jack was designed just for that. You just need an 1/8 stereo to dual 1/4" cable or adapter. A 1/8" mono to 1/4" mono cable/adapter would work too. You can leave the speaker jack unplugged.
JayLeonardJ Excuse me while I fangirl for a minute, love your work and keep doing what you're doing! Thanks for the reply Jay, didn't think I would get one!
To answer Jay's question, my plan.with that amp.would be to have a very portable pedal board mainly for silent practice through headphones. Does.this.pedal.sound.good.enough without a.cab sim.pedal connected? Anyone? Thanks!
Great video Jay - I am looking at this (seriously) as I cannot make up my mind on an amp (where live very very few to sample) and need pedal platform primarily. I do worry how it will handle a mix of analog and digital effects (about 10 of 'em) - I would garb a cabinet later

Did not expect to get blown away by his playing. Good demo.

What a fantastic player you are, good sir.
Clicked on the video because I’m getting into the
whole grab'n'go amp deal but I stayed because of the marvelous playing and taste, kudos!
Top notch playing like always
Thanks!

Great little amp and even better guitar playing! Terrific guitar handling
The most enjoyable demo on this amp that I've seen. Thanks!
Bro you just kill it I'm every video! Love your playing, keep up the great content and music!
Best review of this pedal and such a funky playing!
Great demo, terrific player, good decisions on the recording signal path, and post production.
Best demo I've seen/heard on this little box. THX
Holy crap dude! Your playing was on fire! The Quilter is awesome too.
Huge smile on my face thank you
JLJ:
You always blow my mind. Best reviewer/player on the planet!!!
Thanks again...
Really appreciate it, thanks!
This is no ordinary guitarist. Jay’s the fastest funk player and all around great player of every variety in general, yet so tasty. 👍 🎸
GREAT Video. I am voing to use it as a reduced sized rig as part of pedal board and 2 x 12 cab. 😁
Best guitar petal review player !!!! Always enjoy your videos. Your channel is my feel good place to go. I am not a guitar player... Just get so much bliss from the videos!!!!!! THANK YOU 😎
I forgot it was a review and had fun just listening to the playing.
You've GOT to be the funk-hardest guy on the planet! AWESOME!!!
Dang. Always impressed by your playing.
Great tones. Great playing. Great attitude. Great demo.
My god Jay, with your playing you could make even a broomstick sound good!
I only play pre-CBS broomsticks though ;)
Still, you're an amazing player and your enthusiasm is contagious :)
I love the Quilter stuff - but this video made me REALLY excited for the Revstar I just ordered.
Best demo of the Monoblock 45 I have seen !
Really appreciate it; it was a fun little box to explore!
Love your playing. I use the ProBlock 200 which has got more power than I’d ever need so this might be the perfect solution for me.
Ooh, I've been eyeing that box for a while. Especially in combo with that 2x8W cab they make. Gotta try it out soon
I think it would make a great addition to a small grab & go board! Although using it as a talkbox amp is genius!! Please do a video on that Jay!!!
Hmm... I think a Talkbox vid would be a fun project too!
This and an H9 MAX on the floor, a Tele in my hand, a nice 1x12 propped in my face, & a mic to the house. Would you need more?
Great video! Planning to buy amp to use with a tech 21 tm30 cab! Amp went out and I never liked it anyway! Took the chassis off and will seal the back up and then glue it to the back!
Always liked your energy in these reviews man. It ain't easy, but you make it look so. Cheers!
Cool jam! Great vid, best part was the myriad of facial expressions. Checking out the rest of your stuff now.
Dear Jay, You are The Best!!!!!! Love Your Demo!!!!
Man you can play! Congrats!
I'm need to your channel and find that you are one hell of a guitar player, Love that Quilter tone block 45 when I go in to the studio to rehearse Instead of using the broken down amplifiers or taking mine I could Use that and get a great tone. Also Giggling out can use AS a Spare.
For my taste this sounds better than the demos I've heard of Quilter's full combo amps. Warmer and more tube-like, but at one third or less the cost.
Wow, great job at showing good tones for such a small price. Might get this little guy and a nice 1x12 cab for living room practice with pedals. This would also give me time to save for a good tube amp head later on if I want. You're an awesome player and presenter! You get right to the point but you keep it fun the whole time!
Great demo , killer playing
I'd get two of them, to power the wet cabs of a Wet/Dry/Wet rig!!
Great idea!
I just purchased one of these and run it through a Marshall 1936 cabinet and it is very comparable to my hotrod Deville 2x12 tube amp.that's crazy. you need more clean head room? they sound fanastic
0:54-1:10 blew my brain! Haha. Great job on the vid.
Me too! I slowed it down and watched it several times in a row even before I saw your comment :)
Craziest thing I’ve seen on TH-cam
I think any amp would sound good with you playing it.
Dude! Really dig your playing! Keep up!
THAT! Would be a back up for my main amp, just incase it goes down.
Got a feeling if you used it that it may become your main amp.
Well, playing that cleanly is gonna sound pretty good out of a Crate 10 watt beginner's kit amp, but the quilter does seem to work very well :)
I only recently discovered you watching gear reviews (black spirit 200). You’re a lot of fun to watch. I haven’t googled your name yet to see who you are but I plan to. I’m a subscriber now! I am using it for a spare amp at small gigs.
Jay, you're awesome.
With moving to a city apartment being a reality in the near future I find this interesting as this may be the way to go without getting evicted (which my tube combo most definitely will). Look at getting an Orange Rocker 15.
orangeamps.com/products/guitar-amp-combos/rocker-series/rocker-15/
Good idea, but be aware it's still loud!
Yeah! The headphone jack goes a long way. One trick to make sure the volumes don't get too crazy is to plug it into a 16ohm cab: that will reign the output in a little bit without any harm to the box :)
I'd like to use it, using my Blackstar ht5 head (output) through the auxiliary in - to a 2x12 with Vintage 30's.... would that work?
2:47 " that gay knob" funny!
My microblock doesn't sound like that at all. I'm looking at upgrading the guitar player. Or just more practice, with headphones. Otherwise I'll be banished to setup in the garage.
You make this sound fantastic. Would you use it with a nylon string acoustic?
Why don't you have a million subscribers? Fantastic demo with killer playing as usual!
1 million... I'd be happy with 10K :) Thanks for watching!
Great tones!
I might use as the wet amp in a wet/dry rig.
that's exactly how i use it and perfect for that scenario. it lacks some depth and clarity as a main (dry) amp.
This is an awesome video great job
My first exposure to your channel....outstanding playing .....tons o fun...cool wiz box....great job !
These are also good for harmonica
That man can play wow
nice demo glad to see you been practicing the licks I taught you,lol
Dood! I love your content! As well as your playing style!
I was wondering how much I could pick one of these up for?
150
Nice demo!!! I see a 57, is the other mic a NT1A?
How can you use one of these on a chain? at the end just like a normal amp?
Well it actually IS an amp, so yes. Just run whatever pedals you want into its input then run a speaker cable out the other side to a cabinet.
2Plus2isChicken2013 thanks pal
So could u go guitar - quilter micro block 45 - torpedo live ? Or could u sit on the couch and plug a guitar into the quilter and just run a headphone out from the quilter?
Thanks for the video! I just got one to put under the xmas tree. It is great, but had a loud 50Hz hum because there is no ground connection. As I added a ground cable from the power plug the hum was completely gone. Did you have the same issue?
Super weird. Mine actually has a built in ground connection. Strange that yours didn't. Glad you sold it though!
I wanna see you use it with a talk box...pretty please...
Hello Jay! Considering it's a power amp stage, ehat's the point with the gain? Any booster, overdrive, compression or distortion is already a preamp.
Unlike something like the EHX 44 Magnum, the MicroBlock 45 is a 2in1 with a power amp AND preamp styled from their ToneBlock 200 Amp. Any booster pedal I use will react in the same way as boosting the preamp of any guitar amp out there :)
Fantastic!
Well your playing is so outstanding so i can't realy judge the amp....lol
You make everything sound good.
Sounds great at low gain settings. Honestly don't care for the briitle sounding higher gain tones,
Excellent faces. For excellent guitar.
Fun stuff very cool
Can i plug an 8 ohm 12inch speaker into this Tiny amp Jay?
Yup, any cab between 4-16ohms would work!
Damn dude, you can rip!
Have you used any effect pedals for this review? Or is It Chimera that has natural gain with the volume nob??
I used a Treble Booster for the very last clip. However, all the response and touch sensitivity is from the Quilter :)
Amazing playerrrr !!
Can this run into a D.I (1/4 inch) input? I want to run into a house P.A and not a set of speakers directly? Any issues??
Yup, you would have to get a 1/8 to 1/4" adapter for the line out though.
Great player!
Greetings. The into song is amazing. Whats the name of the song. Have you recorded it anywhere online?
Just something off the top of my head! Really glad you dug it, maybe I should record something like that :) Thanks!
Quilter MicroBlock + Benson Preamp Demo, please!!!!
Man I Love this Blouson! Tell me everything about it please :D
Master's on full, 45W should be deafening at that range!
Is it safe to run a line out from the headphone output of the Microblock 45 into the mixing board? If so, does it sound good?
Should work just fine. I would use a mono cable though.
Need your help on this one Jay, how exactly do I use this with the Iconoclast? Planning to get the Iconoclast
Real good demo pedal is good for when that amp breaks down :>)
Its okay to put pedals before this amp, right?
I guess I could have read down a bit...I found my answer...it is a "yes".
get down pal!
Holy myther fykking - great great playing
Love it
To answer Jay's question, my plan.with that amp.would be to have a very portable pedal board mainly for silent practice through headphones.
Does.this.pedal.sound.good.enough without a.cab sim.pedal connected?
Anyone? Thanks!
Headphone out direct into the board sounds great. And doesn't mute the amp.
Is it loud?
Quite :)
Great video Jay - I am looking at this (seriously) as I cannot make up my mind on an amp (where live very very few to sample) and need pedal platform primarily.
I do worry how it will handle a mix of analog and digital effects (about 10 of 'em) - I would garb a cabinet later
I haven't had any issues with guitar pedals and the MicroBlock. The unit is quite wonderful, no complaints at all :)
JayLeonardJ Thanks a lot Jay - appreciate your feedback - will be giving this a serious look
Virtuoso shit. And I got a kick out of your affinity for Nile Rodgers!
Really appreciate it! He is one of the masters :)
Can i use it as a power amp for a pré amp or modeler?
The pedal does have a built in tonal pre, so a little tweaking would be needed for your modelers.
JayLeonardJ You think it plays well with tech 21 prés, Benson pré or BB pré amp?
Raphael Caires definitely the Benson and BB! Sound amazing in fact. Pretty much any preamp you use as a EQ, booster, or gainer will work perfectly.
JayLeonardJ Thanks Jay!
Love your reviews but really come to listen to your guitar God virtuosity!
Thanks man!
Great demo! Thanks! BTW What kind of cereals do you have for breakfast? OMG!
