    I emailed Quilter's support department re using the headphone jack as a line out to a recording interface. Pat Quilter himself (!!) replied in the affirmative, although suggested a cab sim in the chain. Now that's customer service !!!

    Hey Phillip, firstly, I dig your videos. Very honest takes on gear pros and cons.
    Back in January 2011 I was gigging with Paul Johnson ( 1st wave surf guitarist- composer of surf classics Mr. Moto, and many others) and I asked if I should bring my amp and he said no, he'd be supplying the amps. Well, I show up at the venue and was expecting to see a blackface or blonde Fender something-or-other as old surf guys, and surf guys in general, inhabit the upper echelons of tube snobbery and loyalty. When I asked where the amps were he points behind the stage and I see these two little "practice" sized amps ( Micro-pro 200) and I said "really?" he said "really"..."are they going to mic us?" I asked..."no, they won't need to" he said with a sly grin (this was a 400 seat concert setting).
    Well in short, I was just blown away at how these little amps put out big, clear, warm sound in a 19.5 lb. unit. We even did an acoustic set through these little amps and with a few knob tweaks our acoustics sounded like acoustics...I've been a Quilter man ever since.
    I still love my '67 modded Bassman but it hangs out in my buddies practice room.
    Your followers my like to know that Pat Quilter is the Q in QSC high end pro audio gear.
    Thanks for taking the time to put out quality info with no schtick!

    Two of my bandmates are using Quilter amps. The steel player's amp refused to turn on at practice. He got on the horn to Quilter next day, and they paid for him shipping it both ways, fixed it, no charge in about a week! Customer service is not dead.... Keep don

    Just got mine yesterday. I'm running a Dunlop wah into an analogman POT into a Boss Harmonist into the input. In the loop I'm running a Flyrig 5, Boss CE5 and a el cheapo Rouge Delay. I'm using a Celestion G12 in a Blackheart cab. Everything mounted on a Pedaltrain 1. I bought it to replace a Crate PB I kept in my car for backup that was stolen. I'm impressed enough to use it full time. We'll see how I feel on Sunday but for tonight, color me happy.

    i bought the amp used on this demo from this guy on reverb. i've got tons of tube amps but i live in an apartment and needed something on the low cost side that i could play without driving my neighbors crazy and this amp works great! i love the control i have with this amp in my apartment and the many tones i can get with it.

    I have a Quilter Micropro 2-12" combo along with the 12" Ext Cab and the 6-button footswitch on the way this week. I have been researching the Quilter's for quite awhile and when national acts are using these on Austin City Limits, and with the incredible tone along with no maintenance and they weigh nothing, yeah I pulled the trigger. Nice vid by the way.

    I should also mention I had a patch cable that did not work from the send to the Flyrig. Don't know why but it shut the whole unit down. I contacted customer support and Pat Quilter emailed me back immediately. I went from crap, loop seems to be borked to wow, that cable is fine but doesn't work here in about two hours. Switched out the cable, everything works great. And, it's quiet.

    I played quilter stuff at Ampshow last month, I was blow away. They have a pedal board prototype that will power 13 pedals, and act as a head. We had two 12 inch cabs plugged into it playing in stereo, all powered from the pedal board and it sounded HUGE. They said it would only be around 599 when it does come out, i will believe that when i see it.

    I’ve had one for 3ish years. Never really used it because I bought as a backup amp. Pulled it out the other day. Ran it into a mojotone 1x12 with Alessandro something speaker. This thing freaking rocks! I settled on the on the surf mode… I also like the full Q. I also see the tweed mode as very usable! Long story short… this little box rocks. I’ve had a lot of tube amps… from Mesa, to Marshal to Fender. I’d put it up in a live seen with all of them with no problems! I do wonder if the one with reverb does as well…. But damn this things rocks. BTW, mine came with a gig bag

    I can vouch for Quilter quality, got the Tone Block 200 late last year and I love it! I had often said that if someone could build a solid state amp that sounded and "felt" like a tube amp I'd be on board and Quilter has done it. Check out the reviews by Gino Matteo and Mike Zito, after seeing them I was sold! Thanks Phillip for another great vid!

  • @nhunter333
    @nhunter333 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had, and gigged with the Toneblock 200 for close to a couple of years now. I love it. It takes pedals very well, and I usually run into a Marshall 4x12 1960a cabinet. I never turn it up past 11 or 12 watts with the gain around 9 o'clock. It's just pure power. More speakers do not calm it down. 4 12's are simply 4 times as loud as 1. So my mind says anyway.

    I've used this with pedals in the front end with 2 1x12s and it could hang with a dual rectifier and a 4x12. It's not a tube amp but sounds pretty good for solid state. I used an OCD, carbon copy, holy grail, and a Klon KTR. 2 Bag End 1x12s made for guitar. Very loud! And decent tone too.

    Amp sounds badass. Got to run time based effects in the FX loop though. Running any delays, or reverbs into the guitar input will make an unclear signal for the amp to process. Best to run guitar, drive pedals, & all that jazz into the amplifier input. That way the amp takes in the dry guitar signal and you fine tune the knobs on the amplifier. After the amplifier processes the guitar signal it gets sent out through the send and you run all your time based effects like delay, Reverb, tremolo, chorus, etc. which come to life and take over the final guitar sound as their desired intention to modulate the finished product which gets returned back to the FX loop’s return to be sent out to the speakers. Not trying to nerd out or say you or anyone uses pedals wrong, rather I just wanted to explain to those who don’t know that you will achieve much higher results running time based effects in the effects loop as opposed to sending a heavily time modulated signal into an amp’s guitar input. Side note: Best to run looper pedals in the effects loop as well because if you send a prerecorded guitar signal and your live guitar signal into the amp’s guitar input then you tend to get two signals going in and out fighting for space. If the amp you’re using is badass and has an effects loop, run the loop pedal at the end of the effects loop so the prerecorded tracks stays as it was recorded and is unaffected by any changes in amplifier channel switches or pedals you engage in front of the amp or in the FX loop before it. I have found that this way the looper pedal’s track and you’re live guitar track both come through the speakers clear and present as two distinct tracks and not a washy mess of both melting together. In closing, the different guitar sounds you got out of this adorable little amp with no pedals was mind blowing. Light weight cheap little portable amp with an FX loop and two gnarly intuitive EQ knobs. I will definitely be picking one up. This amp is the balls. My one ask I would want added to the amp is a 5 button foot switch you could buy as an add on if it had the port to switch between the Surf, jazz, Full Q, etc. modes live on the floor in a gig setting while playing. Great video, found this amp on reverb for cheap and absolutely blown away to find out how cool it is. Thank you for the great in depth video. Rock on!

    Great demo for sure, very thorough and thoughtful.
    I've looked at these as a pedal platform, but still prefer a Roland JC or Clean Fender. Cool for a back up, but I couldn't see using it as a main ever...kind of soulless.

      Jared Burdick yeah for good transistor cleans the old fender chorus amps sound great of course so does a jc120. For more tubey modelling stuff the hotone stuff sounds great to me as a back up not as a main amp but in a punch at a pub gig (the new pedal board stuff is 75 watts compared to 5 for the heads) .

    I have to say if I ever started gigging again, a Quilter would be on my radar too. I love the idea of a tiny amp that's portable and well made (Quilter was started by the founder of QSC Audio, if you want to know the pedigree). I like tubes but I'm not a tube purist, and I think a Quilter would do a fine job for a gig.

    I have the Aviator first addition. I love it! I just run pedals in front of it and it's loud and clean. I have a love pedal I run in front of it and a one twelve cab with a Texas Heat from eminence and my tone is all there and then some. It only weighs like 5 pounds . Th reverb is great for spring type. I take it to gigs and jams and don't have to haul around my heavy HRD Fender 1x12. Also I can practice really quiet in my apartment because the tone is always the same at low volume.

    Eleven Rack currently retails around 300-350$ and has digital ins/outs, 2 separate outs for 2 amps, another 2 for the PA/studio monitors, has cab and amp sims, pedals for all kinds of guitars, input for electric, bass, acoustic and classical guitars as well as microphone, supports 48V phantom power, is a sound interface, is midi controllable. It may not be analog but it surely does blow this "mini head". AND if you need a power section, go check out the EHX Magnum 44 power amp.

      if you don't read manual maybe... Tons of people use it and are quite happy with the results including myself. I'm not saying it can pull off a DT type of album sound but it certainly is better than this "mini head" thingy. At least I can record with a certain standard with it and not have mediocre sounds.

    I’ve been really looking at micro heads lately. I’ve spent years carrying around big heavy tube amps but as I’m getting older it’s getting old. I’m really thinking that a Quilter or something similar and a floor wedge with the horn gone and a guitar speaker would make a great stage rig. Set the wedge in front like a monitor and mic it to keep stage volume down.

    Older video I know, but saw this amp as a pick on a jazz channel. Then saw your demo. Here's an idea to explore if you haven't (if you have, please point me to the vid!): As guitarists, why don't we get on the compact amp head bandwagon? It's a headroom thing. According to Quilter that is.

      The 2 'clean' channels- Jazz and Surf do go up to 100 watts, so if you are on one of those voices and the dial says, for instance 10 watts, you are really at 20, and at 50 you are at 100, etc.

    I love your videos and look for new ones everyday. You are a hard working man. Your playing was fine but that amp is missing something. I wanted one, a tired old back that was killed by a Vox AC30 and a Fender Black face will make a guy pray to this! Great demo but that just is too thin. Thanks buddy.

    Hey all. Currently trying to decide between the 101 mini (or 101 reverb) and something from the 200 series. I don’t need extra volume on tap, 50w is plenty for me. Are there any other major tonal differences in the 100 series and 200 series? I get my reverb from pedals so I’m basically just looking for a pedal base with a little crunch and chime. Any input is awesome if you have experience with these amps!!

    I think it really misses a D.I. - do you think the fx send could be used as a DI??

    • @jefgat155
      @jefgat155 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pat Quilter suggests fx send as DI. You can also use HK RedBox (at the end of effects)) in the fx loop to get to the Board. I had the TB200, which has dedicated Balanced line Out ~ but wanted all the extra tone-shaping this one offers.

    Hi Philip, hope you are well mate. Thanks a lot for your review it is great. I have a doubt though. I have recently bought a Quilter 101 reverb (it sounds amazing) and my unit says it is made in China. I was expecting a product made in California according to what you said. It doesn't make any difference really, I was just curious to understand what happened. Have they moved their production abroad?

      The one I had was stamped made in USA. I have a new Quilter Pedal and it is stamped made in China. It is a bummer. But, it seems like the quality in the new product I got is good as well.
