    This is an incredible location. I am not sure what this is, I wasn't understanding what you all were talking about. But I really enjoyed seeing this location. Fascinating.

      Hello there Burning Sands :)
      It’s a fort - Begun during the Napoleonic Wars and completed in the 1860s, the vast defences of Western Heights were designed to protect Dover from French invasion.

    Fantastic mate. I remember watching IKS video here, soon as i saw the green hanging over i recognised it. Chris's rucksack is the same as mine but mine is in bad condition. I've had it about 10 years.

    I recall being here for the day, during my time with the RE in 1986/87 - and remember the last post being played as they lowered the flag in the fortress. Cannot for the love of me, remember why we were there. I am certain the two walkways were still functional too. As we entered the central bit over wooden walkways.

    • @ALWResearchTeam
      @ALWResearchTeam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Dave, that’s very interesting! I believe the walkways were intact until the late 80’s

    • @DS-cf1zc
      @DS-cf1zc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ALWResearchTeam I recall on the day, being told some of the tunnels off the central part were out of bounds - purely as they were being explored by historical archeologists, to see if they could be opened to the public. Seeing like it is now, that plan was clearly abandoned.

    • @ALWResearchTeam
      @ALWResearchTeam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DS-cf1zc It certainly is a shame. However if it was seen by the 'wrong' people it could be filled in with concrete to 'preserve' the site. Your recoolections to your time there are very interesting to read :)

    Just started, Remember going to that fence line, went by to drop down to where we all should not be be!. There was a geocache by the gate, fence, first 1 minute. Now to carry on.

    The western heights are a marvel of military engineering, imagine the amount of bricks and skilled hrs spent building the place. Such a shame it’s just left to rot. Sure in years to come we will look back and think why didn’t we look after that.

    Do you ever use metal detectors (with permission/s, of course)? I have a wee collection of detected artefacts from the *Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, 4 September 1526* ... Pix and details available upon request!
    All the best. Stay free.

      Hello Rab :) Hope youre well. I used to have a metal detector when I was younger and my claim to fame is finding a dinky toy in my back garden 🚗. The Battle of Linlithgow Bridge was an interesting one, I think the armies matched 4:1 so was a bit of a massacre. Yes please drop me an email as i might visit the site and do a video in the future :)

      @@ALWResearchTeam I shall send an e-mail, replete with pix and descriptions (albeit my take, within the time period and my research). Please give me a few days.
      I am sure the distance between you and the BoLB is quite an undertaking. Caveat: There is not much left to distinguish the battlefield from 'any other place'. But if you have an understanding of the Battle (including Pace (Peace) Hill and Manuel Haugh and Manuel Nunnery) and other important facts, you will be rewarded.
      There is a cairn/memorial circa quarter of a mile away from the site, commemorating where Lennox was murdered (after being severely wounded) and buried.
      A Bloody History, mostly lost in the mists of time.
      Stay free, Andy (and Thomas!).

      PS. Close drone footage of the Battlefield would be a first, in garnering at least the lie of the land, for it has not changed much (apart from the defunct aggregate quarry) ... R

    Amazingly in decent shape for its age and non use. Wish these graffiti dummies would stop defacing the buildings. If caught, they should cleanse the buildings they defaced! I would guess I shouldn’t hold my breath for this corrective analysis? 🇬🇧😞👍🇺🇸
