amazing brickwork
Mustard gas was not produced at a FFD. The vessicant was produced at Randle (Wigg Island) and shipped in special rail tankers to the FFD which had underground lead-lined storage tanks. When directed by higher authority they would have filled varios types of aerial bombs and spray apparatus which were kept in a Bonding building for at least 24 hours to ensure no leaks then shipped out to selected bomber squadrons. Mustard gas (actually a liquid) was not used by the British during WW2. It was held as a retaliation weapon if the Germans used chemical weapons against Britain. Ironically, unknown to Britain, the Germans had developed nerve gas (Tabun) a thousand times more potent. ThankfullIy it was never used against us.
Nice one lads 😊
What happened to the fragments of the bombs
Washed away i would guess :)
I read the biography of Barnes Wallace and found it interesting
Did they make your mate Colin and his mate pay for the cart they broke? Railways change the landscape alot. 17:43in who was smoking.? People who take money trying to knock of historical structures, for developers to snap up and make more monete, and there'll be polyshituns involved. You can't go far wrong if your still in England 😉 m8. Nice walk m8s, keep up the good walks an stay vertical Eh!
Colin ran away lol. No one smokes in our teams. That was steam as the air was damp
Beeching and the govt of the time - criminal vandals - Yes, MOTHBALL the lines.... But to pull them up?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Wanton vandalism.
Well done, good to see you back.
Did you step back from video making for a while?. I follow you and hadn't seen any.
Hello, We film every other weekend.
Nice video guys 👌 The green colour is used alot is odonil, however the grren on the can is muted green its mixed with warm yellow to make as you correctly stated 'Olive Green' 👌 .. I missed that brick wall.. Good to now know what its purpose was 👌 thats interesting about the rail / pipe..
Hi there, thanks very much :D
Cool spot Ian, Chris & Co 👍👍
That is awesome
Wow, that photograph is awesome It shows you that I love that
Hell yeah, that's awesome
I'm currently laid under my bed watching your presentation. If my siblings or my parents find out I'm watching this kind of 'filth' i will, for sure be the laughing stock of the village. There is in one location, close to the village, one longish tunnel in which a steam locomotive and tender/coal supply carriage still stay. The tunnel is well ventilated despite being easily accessible. There is little to no water or moisture present, and everything is in good condition.
ooh nice. Rumour has it that Andy hides under his bed to edit sometimes.
Interesting, google satellite view shows no wagons there any more...
You're right. The whole site has been cleared forever.
Stray American decided to subscribe, you have cool adventures, cool video, cool people. Have fun.
HE IS STILL INSIDE...huh? Who is still inside?
Ben was but he got out eventually
Living life on the "Edge"
Stray lost American here, do you wear a hardhat when in those tunnels? I would, just to be on the safe side if not.
All the time at work
The mortar with dates could be to show movement ie if the mortar cracks it will show that movement occurred after the date on the mortar .
Ahh thank you :D
The holes will be to stop water building up behind the tunnel sides and blowing out the brickwork .
Very interesting. Thanks!
Hiya Andy & Vicky 👋🏻👋🏻 Right at the beginning you asked if that plane was a Spitfire, well from my Airfix days as a kid, because of the curved wings at the rear of the wings it’s a Spitfire (also the big difference between a Spitfire & Hurricane is the canopy. The Spitfire has a “bubble” canopy, whilst the Hurricane has a more rectangle shape.) Very interesting place & information about the land girls, & wasn’t it only in recent years any surviving members were awarded a WW2 medal? I love the Euro Shuttle, that type of carriage you was on is what I drive my coach onto. It’s a bit of a faf as you have to point the front of the coach over the edge of the entry due the the steering wheels being behind the driver (the front overhang) & then swing it around to enter the carriage. Once straight you have to watch the wing mirrors in between the carriages as where the partition is can be a bit tight. Sometimes when loading it can take ages to drive in & it seems I’ve driven across lol. Looking forward to more adventures & soon I’ll be going to Germany with my work too. See ya soon 🇬🇧🫶🏻🇬🇧
Hello Glenn :D that's sure interesting, a coach must be tight, it was fairly tight with the motorhome:) I hope you enjoy Germany
@ thanks, but not going now lol Did you look up your Spitfire recognition too
I did a little yes :)
75 metres at its deepest point
Many German heavy guns in WW2 used cased propellants, brass or steel, rather than bagged charges.
There's a Typhoon in the RAF Museum Hendon, also a foundation is restoring another to flyable condition - its serial is RB396.
it could be a community repair ,
So what happened in the end they just left you? Awesome looking place!
The police kicked us out
If the global warming ideas have any currency, aren't the authorities going to need to reopen all of these railways?
This is really interesting but you're getting very wet in the rain 😊
We did indeed :D
I know where there’s a tunnel filled in an not many people know about it in Barnsley near my house, it goes under road , am thinking about digging it out on sly an make a Secret entrance , nobody can see me it behind a big stone wall, it was for a old steam train that moved coal that went through and up towards Mapplewell
ooh nice, id like to see that :)
@ am keeping it secret pal , I want to use it for something
I'm sure others have explained - but the dated cement areas look to me like "tell-tales" and show if anny cracking is taking place. The date shows when the patch was made, and if the bricks have not moved, you can see how long the structure has remained stable. A common device on all brick-work where movement was suspected.
The machine after the thresher was a Choppy Cutter, that's what I know 'em by. It chopped wurzles, a type of turnip, to make 'em more palitable to feed livestock.
Dover is the gift that keeps on giving, in a good way. Ian and Chris do a wonderful job keeping a visual record of it. Construction seems a bit tidier than the usual on the other tunnels. I'd reckon the first room was used by people, given the breakers are on the far end and not at the entrance. You don't want to go near-by a medium tension rectifier to access the breakers. Pretty tight fit. Probably a service room for that tunnel section lighting and comms, but you know far more than I do. Glad to see Dave back on the channel. Missed his old-timer wit very much. A personal plus for me as a scale modeler is, I get to see the real deal through the lense of you cameras, folks. What the ground looks like. The vegetation. How it all changes during the season. It allows me to combine paint colours and adds that tiny little bit of uniqueness when you're building a diorama project, instead of the generic radioactive greens found in railway static grass. Anyway. I digress. Cheers.
Hello there :) I filmed this series with a Sony full frame G master 14mm lens and a Sony A7iii in london we saw some arc rectifiers in the deep shelters :D
@@ALWResearchTeam Keep using that rig, it shoots great. Gotta revisit that series, it was excellent.
You're correct, the Canadians captured Battery Todt after the breakout from Normandy.
Nice ❤
😎👍
Thanks Andy (& Vicky). Really interesting 👍🏼😁. Lots of stuff we never knew about the Women’s Land Army (and Le Shuttle 😊)
Nice to meet you both today :D
@@ALWResearchTeam Nice to meet you and Vicky as well 👍🏼😁
And thus the revamped motor home begins a new journey!
These are good (apart from the charging) for about a year, by that time it will be if lucky worth 50% of retail price, then it gets worse, the macmaster has had one it’s heavily featured on his channel.
Impressive , when are you getting one ? Have to be honest I am a bit of an traditionalist , miss the sound of the engine .
I wont be getting one. I have a diesel passat
@@ALWResearchTeam Much more classy
Remember going in this one back in the late 80’s with my mate, start of a long obsession with underground tunnels
Hi Terry, wow thats cool :) I do love a tunnel too. Hope you're well Sir.
@@ALWResearchTeam we’re good mate, the motor home is looking great, got something different coming up on my channel soon
Nice & dry in there. Good lads them IKS fellas.
Great video on that line and tunnels. What gives them the right to infill / the tunnel portal.
Stoneledge have a licence it seems
👍
Thanks Anthony
Wow this is the exact same layout as I grew up in! We were based in Laarbruch as my dad was Flight Sargent on Buccaneers squadron. Two tour 71-74 and 76-79. I went to MAAS 1st school.
Ah that’s great! The buccaneers is a lovely aircraft
Are they Merlins ?
Hello Anthony, Yes the UK Military, Denmark, and Portugal, use the name Merlin for their EH101 variants, some are built by Augusta for different markets.
Yeah I know some people actually found the vertical video Heck I don't know much about this stuff I just kind of turn it sideways and shoot stuff for my channel. Maybe it's better I'm not sure. But I always enjoy your videos Thank you from way over here
Lived in Canberra Crescent between 1975-80 and spent many fun days at Manby and spending time in the Families Hall (or whatever it was called). Looks very different now (or at 2021).
