- In this video we take a look at the factory Harbor freight chain versus the 8TEN aftermarket chain from Amazon. The aftermarket looks to be a bit more aggressive so there's only one way to find out. Let's put them to a timed cutting test to find out!
If you would like to pick up one of these chains

I have always called the “ factory chain” a training chain, just like the stabilizing wheels for a bicycle, they are not aggressive by any means from the beginning, and the shaping of the rakers limit any possibilities of a kick back, any replacement chain will be an improvement to any saw over the original, and they will remain sharper longer as well!
For sure!
Having gone from ms171 with the low kickback design and whatnot to running an 025 with a aggressive 3/8 (yellow) chain made a world of difference. It really is like a training chain. I felt comfortable enough with the experience i had gained to just jump in with my new to me saw.
The second cut definitely looked faster. I am impressed with the saw. Good video.
Thanks! Got another video coming soon battery vs gas saw
Paul you are The Man The hanabal of farm life , much love and please please stay safe out there
Thanks Gary you too!
I don't think that chain should be that difficult to put on. I checked the online owner's manual for that saw and it lists the replacement chain part number as Trilink CL 14356. A check of the Trilink catalog reveals that this part number is a 3/8" Low-Pro, .043 gauge, 56 DL chain - not 55 DL. You may want to try going to ForesterShop.com. They have the 3/8 low-pro, .043 pitch, 56DL chain for about $14. It's not much more than $20 for two, and I think it will probably fit without having to force it. You should check out the Trilink catalog, it is really informative. I think I remember seeing the Trilink stuff at Walmart if you have one close.
The 80V saw uses the same owner's manual. The 80V uses a .050 gauge chain and bar. I'm curious to know how the 80V runs with a 16" bar. Husqvarna lists a max recommended bar length of 16" with a .325" mini pitch, .043 gauge chain on their biggest battery saw. Stihl recommends a 16" bar length as well, but gives a chain part number that corresponds with a 1/4" pitch, .043 gauge chain. Both of these chains take a smaller bite out of the wood. I think the 18" bar may be a bit ambitious for the 80V. That may be why it had/has the battery overheating issue. It might be worth looking into using a 16" bar on that 80V saw.
Have you had any overheating with the 40V?
Yeah I think it should have the 56 link, yeah the 40v battery shuts off too but it does take quite a bit longer
This helps to answer my question, thank you!!
I think that chain should be 56 link instead of 55 which would explain the shortness and installation.
It's a great looking setup
i have the 40 and the 80 atlas saw the 40 have a 18'' bar and cut good the 80 have a 20 '' have no problems both saw have chipper chain
I was looking on how to replace the chain. :(
AdvanceCut Oregon R56G fits good
Thanks I’ll check it out
Enjoyed the video! Cool chainsaw.
Thanks!
Is the Atlas saw still operational or did it not last a year?
Still works fine
I'm wondering what Amp hour battery you used.
It was the 80v battery which is a 5AH when used the the 40v saw
Sounds like there different link counts I have learned that the hard way that there are different numbers of links even if there all for a 16" bar
Yeah I’d say they didn’t get it right in the manual, it says the replacement is a 55 link but it was tough getting it on.
@@WilliamsonRidge lol you will figure it out wander what a 56 link would look like on it if they make one that is
Williamson Ridge Outdoors I tried an Oregon R55. Just like your Amazon chain, it was Hard to get on, but it cuts much better.
any chance you could give some part # for the 18 inch saw chain ? i just bought one
The one in the video is 16" here is the link for that.www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFSY5NM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=williamsonrid-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07DFSY5NM&linkId=469126d8266ebf8ce3dd16a96f194eff
Anyone find a case/box this saw fits in?
that chain is 55 links, you need 56 links to be correct
Yup you are correct
