You can get individual parts by calling the customer service 800 number. They have a pricing catalog for parts online. Just have to pay for shipping I assume.
Honestly, Icon has put out some pretty solid tools lately, I run almost all of their Pliers along with some cobras but for $20 a plier I cant complain especially with the quality. their sockets are pretty evenly priced with gearwrench the only downside is there is no individual socket sets. Although in terms of the box I would look at the U.S Generals over the Icons, especially if you go through with the Mobile! Happy to see the content back though man!
Justin Dow.. I recently went down the Icon rabbit hole and bought a bunch of their tools. I also bought a lot of other tools from Harbor Freight as well. So far I love the all of the things I bought from Harbor Freight especially the Icon stuff. I bought two of the US General full bank carts and of the US General 27" top and bottom toolboxes. They work great, check out my videos on them. I wish they had a set of locks I could get so I wouldn't need 4 different keys for them. Yes, one key for all of them. I would like to try out their biggest Icon toolboxes with a top box and two end lockers, in black of course. So I could compare it to my Matco 6s triple bay. That would be awesome!
I've been very satisfied with all my Icon purchases so far. I do think a few things could be cheaper, so i enrolled in their ITC program, which paid for itself on the first purchase with $30 off an a Fortress air compressor, and I usually try to wait for coupons to come along. The only real negative thing i can think of is they dont offer singles of a tool that comes in a set, but i haven't had an issue because of it yet.
As an apprentice who’s been using icon tools for a year now their tools are really decent for the most part there’s some tools that they sell that aren’t worth buying like their snap ring pliers
@@COBRO98 they work OK but when it comes to removing old snap ring on older vehicles tent to break and it’s been proven that a lot of people who buy them also experience this problem
I also wish they sold individual sockets, and larger ones. We spent the last week camping with friends. His Duramax threw a code that the fuel filter was dirty. We were able to buy the filter, and the 36mm socket needed to change it, at Advance Auto. He doesn't need a whole set of huge metric sockets, but he needed one specific one.
They do sell individual sockets. You have to call the main office. If you google harbor freight parts you can find a list of individual part numbers. I’ve done it so I know it’s possible.
If you call HF customer support they’ll sell you single sockets. They’ll even sell you individual parts for things; like say you need a coil starter for your generator they’ll sell you one
I have quite a lot of icon stuff I use on a daily basis at work. I think it’s good quality for the price. I always wait for a 20-25% off coupon to use to buy something icon so I always get them for a better price. For me the price and convenience are why I invested so much into them. I’ve broken an icon socket, a bit driver, a wrench, and a extraction bit and since harbor freight is on my way home the most amount of time it’s taken to swap one of out is about 5 minutes. I do agree with you there are some things that are better value from brands like tekton or gearwrench. Gearwrench and tekton have longer ratchets that are missing like you mentioned. Those are necessary for alignments. Astro has better priced swivels, tekton has more inclusive socket sets with better trays etc. I am interested in seeing icon expand into the diagnostic tools since the quality and price point have been very fair up to this point (with some slight exclusions) but at the same time I do think they should keep Maddox for the shop equipment items.
Icon is my snap on. Price to value is unmatched really. Warranty is so much easier than sending in mail (or waiting for tool truck?) i dont know because ive never waited for a tool truck. Just walk in, walk out
That's another reason I ended up going with the used husky brand mechanic tool set, I can get almost any socket, extension, wrench, ratchet or the 4 broken bit sockets in that set from home Depot,, and I have either a abn or Orion motor tec caliper rewind set and it has a few brake service tools but I don't care for the brake spring pliers set, so I have been looking at a brake service tool set by abn all of them are on Amazon
It is possible to order to order single icon sockets wrenches, ive seen a few posts on Facebook how people were able to obtain them, tbh it seemed like alot of work though
dont forget about ebay, marketplace, local pawn shops for getting quality tools. i loaded my 40" 8 drawer, split top cart with snap on tools about 7 yrs ago from the mentioned places before everyone wanted retail prices for used tools today. i was getting snap on socket sets for $75, wrench sets for $100 and under, ratchets for $50 and up and so on. it was a good time to buy off of ebay then. theres still good deals ive seen lately. seen a full set of snap on flank drive plus metric wrenches for $250 brand new. it takes some searching but theyre there.
I've yet to buy anything Icon... Quinn and Doyle + Pittsburgh...why bother with Icon when it costs so much to other name brands? Haven't seen the cost/value from Icon products
One of the reasons why I prefer Tekton sockets. Can always buy an individual socket to replace. I boughta 1 7/8 socket specifically to remove lower ball joints on my SUV. HFT needs to start selling individual sockets. Same for the rest of their tools like screwdrivers, etc.
You can call the harbor freight support number and order individual sockets.... the shipping is going to be dumb and probably match the cost of the socket though.... Good luck. Better off just picking a different brand socket off the shelf from an auto parts store or ordering on amazon to be honest.
Being marine diesel mechanic (most times away from the toolbox) the tool trucks have the advantage. I normally carry a $200.00-$500.00 credit. The toolman is always there and ready to get you what you need in an emergency if you owe money! I certainly would not suggest a new guy to spend the big $ if you are not sure this is what you want to do with your life. The single socket, wrench, screwdriver can be a drawback to Harbor Freight. FWIW I have many Harbor Freight tools that are write offs when they fall in the drink!
There is no icon 1/4 torque. The smallest one is a 200in lb wrench but is 3/8. It’s bulky so I also have a small 1/4 inch one from tekton which is nice and affordable.
The whole problem with the icon stuff is you have to buy everything in a set. There are no singles. If you lose a socket your warranty is out the window, because they want you to bring the whole set in. The harbor freight hero’s will point to the online catalog. Sure there’s a catalog but good luck ordering anything. Others will say you have to talk to the store manager. We are talking about a single socket here. It shouldn’t require a secret handshake to get one. If you are going to go with a non truck brand I would suggest gearwrench/Sata it’s superior to icon in just about every way. Their warranty process is simple and relatively quick.
Their warranty process is not quick, ive warrantied Gearwrench twice and once took 2 weeks and the other time took almost three months. If you want warranty and single sockets, Tekton is the move.
Hey Justin lovin the recent vids do you have a po box or somewhere to send swag/ tools, giftcards n such to you? I buy and sell power and hand tools part time n might be able to crack off a couple of tools for your boy if I had a place to send em to
I tried the ICON swivel impact sockets and just didn’t like them. For the money the Sunex are a much better value for the pin style which is just gonna be BULKY due to the large collar they feature. I found some new Snap On swivel impacts on eBay and love them. Plan to also get some MAC as they are even more low profile. With ICON it’s like any other tool manufacturer, some of their stuff is great for intended use and economical, and some simply isn’t.
Interesting thing about icon is when you support them you’re supporting another huge company paying a bunch of people the lowest wages . When you support tool trucks you support individual owners who can make a good living . Just a thought
Don't get caught up with the "one brand" only style.. Honestly, nowadays there's way too many options... We mechanics have the ball in our court when it comes to variety and pricing. Not to mention service info.. The internet; social media, offerup, Amazon has really changed the way we do things.
Find your niche, whether it be driveline/steering/suspension troubleshooting. Powertrain/drivability diagnostics or electrical diagnostics - either way, set yourself apart from the usual parts changers. Employers tend to seek and hold on to these guys.
Tell me how much better Icon Brand is compared to Pittsburgh. Can you justify spending twice as much for Icon as Pittburgh? Is the quality twice as good? Ive seen Torque test channel where the Pittsburgh pro 3/8 flex head failed at only 10lbs less than the Icon. And Pittsburgh has lifetime warranty too. I wish they wouldn't phase out the Pittsburgh line, but slowly and surely that is what they are doing
I absolutely cannot stand icon ratchets, I went with the 120xps for my daily and they haven’t let me down, but I own all the icon pliers, big snap ring set along with the icon but set and they’re all well worth the money. And have the big icon light and the foldable light, all legit competitors.
Man that smoke tester is way over priced to me. You can find a real decent one from Amazon and it comes with the smoke liquid as well. For the amount of times you use it. It’s definitely in my opinion not worth $549 dollars unless you’re a welder who does pipe fittings because in my line of work. I see pipe fitters use smoke machines to test for leaks and they even put nitrogen gas through the pipe they welded. However, for automotive use I can tell you I use my Amazon smoke tested when I was a technician at least 5 times in my 8 years do automotive.
The Icon stuff looks nice and isnt bad for a person to have at home for working on things from time to time but the truth is none of their tools will hold up if you are a full time mechanic they just cant handle the pace
Really because I've been using their tools as a mastertech for like 5 years now, haven't broken a single thing. People love to hate on ICON because it's harbor freight but the truth is it's the same quality as every other brand you love for a whole lot less money
@@COBRO98You must know next to zero about overseas manufacturing and metallurgy if you think all tools are the same. ICON is mid grade for made in Taiwan. You can buy icon sockets individually. Talk to the store manager about it.
Really?
I think you can buy all their socket individually if you go order them online
Also people sell individual HF sockets on eBay
Search around on eBay and Amazon you will find icon tools labeled differently but much cheaper all made in Taiwan
As an apprentice who’s been using icon tools for a year now their tools are really decent for the most part there’s some tools that they sell that aren’t worth buying like their snap ring pliers

My coworker has a good amount or icon and its not bad so far its holding up, there wrenches are longer then my snap on by a bit
Icon covers the 1/4” torque wrench with a 3/8, if you notice they have two flex head 3/8 models
If you are patient they come out with a 20% off coupon about once a quarter.
I have the pittsburgh pro Torque wrench I do alot of my own car had no problem with it

Ease of warranty is one of their strongest selling points. The sockets and wrenches can be individually ordered its not that difficult.
Are u able to do repairs on customer vehicles at your house?
No unfortunately

And Quinn is made by the exact same manufacturer as Taiwan gearwrench so there ya go
