It’s the best Traxxas made imo. The only one I’ve owned that doesn’t track left to right the whole time. I hate constantly trying to 0 the steering on Traxxas models. Nice vid very informative I want one even more now✊
2011 here and same xp. Great aftermarket stuff. Shocks and diffs motor and chassis are very very durable. Drive shaft and and gear housing were and are the weak spot in those early models, letting in sand.
As a rc technician all of my customers just want to have have fun I always tell them buy what they can afford just don't forget durability traxxas is the best in the business. Your videos. ARE AWESOME Sir thank you
I'd have to agree, the 4x4 slash has been a staple in the traxxas lineup. I know less in terms of track performance as I do durability, ease of finding upgrades, warranty stuff. The truck just lasts and lasts, and it cam do a few things well. They make good basher, they can be fast and it sounds like they can be set up for track successfully.
I've had mine since the beginning of November 2021 It's AWESOME so many installed options, so much bang for the buck. THAT Being said, the tires are a trash street tire and poorly glued to the rims of such a fast R/C. It easily overheats on 3s Lipo on a short course AND the tires destroy the inner fenders because they rub. No matter what you do ya gotta get better springs because the belly scrapes on every landing.
I think just a heavier shock oil and pre load spacers work on the vxl non ultimate shocks. Atleast for me. Part of the reason for rub as well is the tire ballooning .
4:50 it is not sagging because is fast and low to the ground, it is sagging because of a shabby and improper setup 😂, these shocks come with extremely mild springs that don’t really do anything.
Wow you dropped it like it's hot. I've seen other channels talk about all the upgrades but the performance you are stating is amazing. WHEN RUBBER HITS THE ROAD
Got my slash ultimate last weekend and didn’t even get a full run in before it melted the telemetry sensor to the slipper, melted the pads and tore teeth off the spur gear. Replaced it with a new slipper a friend had and within 2-3 mins of a run it kept getting loose and burning the spur. Ordered another slipper with the heavy duty rebuild kit and telemetry sensor. Hopefully the heavy duty will fix my problems.
That’s how Traxxas makes their money. They’re money pits. After people realize how easy they are to break, they spend an extra $250-$350 or more to upgrade half the parts and they end up spending nearly as much as they would have if they bought a true racing high quality SCT like the Tekno SCT410.3. It kills me that these youtubers run a few battery packs through a vehicle and say they’re durable… especially when they’re just running on a flat oval. Try a few 3 day organized race weekends on a real off-road track with 25 foot jumps before saying if something is race worthy or durable…. Big difference.
@@JoeTheBlacksmith13 I agree. Thankfully I wasn’t going to use it as a race truck at the local track. I only got it because a group of us that wanted to have a “slash class” for us to beat around and our friends and family who aren’t into the hobby to use instead of our higher end SCTs in our backyard track. Figured I’d spring for the ultimate and spend the few extra dollars since it has the “upgrades” straight out of the box. Frustrating that a almost 600 rtr truck has only ran properly for about 10 mins since coming out of the box.
@@JoeTheBlacksmith13 i gotmine in 2015, id have since sold it but ill never get anything close to what all I put into it since then. Few parts are still traxxas

I am deciding whether to get the Slash ultimate or the VXL as I have a low cut grass track. There are attributes of the VXL that I like over the Ultimate. Like the exposed steering servo which makes it extremely easier to center the servo horn. I already have a Rustler VXL and a Hoss VXL that are both heavily modded. GTR shocks and VG Racing springs, Traxxas 2250 steering servo on the Rustler and 2255 on the Hoss, ST Racing Aluminum Bellcrank, Center Diff Kit on Rustler to replace the slipper clutch, fans on ESC and motor, steel axles, Pro-line aluminum hubs, Aluminum hexes, Aluminum motor mount, Pro-line Trencher LP on Rustler and standard size Trenchers on Hoss. Also swapped the Hoss body for a Rustler body to give a lower appearance and possibly a lower stance. Am considering upgrading the stock 3500 motor on the Slash to a 540XL. I like the torque and it still has balls to the wall speed for my grass short course. I would be applying all of these upgrades out of the box. So I’m leaning toward a Slash VXL rather than buying something that has some upgrades and the pan with the buried servo.
2S or 3S battery? I just acquired the Slash Ultimate. Any suggested changes out of the box? Gear changes made? It’s $499 now with lots of extras. PLMK ASAP. Thank you for your time and the video. Stay safe! 😎👊
On the slash I you will break stuff pretty quick on 3s. I found the need to upgrade to RPM A-arms, MIP drive shafts, Traxxas HD center diff or an HD Slipper, XO-1 front & Rear diffs, bell cranks, servo, Mamba X & 3800kv and 17mm hubs. It runs great and mostly doesn't break anymore. The slash is a fun one to run/race with friends.
