      Why F1 doesn’t already have something like this for Q3 that can be compared for any 2 drivers is unbelievable. Ghosts have been in every racing game since like Mario Kart 64. I’m pretty sure F1 can figure it out (if not just hire crashalong and whoever made this video) especially since they won’t let anyone access even limited telemetry data. Like you said, beyond being bad ass, this is infinitely more informative than a single onboard. I love when Karun or Sky Sports analyze the onboards side by side yet I’d choose this format every single time.

    Defo a fantastic lap. Things to remember when comparing Max to George here;
    George had two out laps. He used the extra out lap to save up more energy for the push lap and because he did two laps, his tyres had a better window temperature. Max had one out lap with less energy and less heated tyres for the push lap.
    George also used the extra out lap to test the tighter lines so that is why he knew he could use them on his flying lap. Max with no heat in the tyres at that stage and only one push lap to check out the circuit was not taking any chances by testing the tighter line.
    George's car had a full downforce, wet race setup for qualification. Max had a 50/50 setup as there was a risk on race day that the race could be dry. He had a smaller wing than George who was pushed down on to the circuit by the large back wing of the Williams.
    Take nothing away from George though. His lap was amazing and one that will rightfully be remembered.

    • @suckieduckie
      @suckieduckie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      The mistake the narrator makes is when he says 'lower downforce' instead of 'lower downforce setup'. The RB was running a much lower downforce setup than the Williams, but the car naturally has more downforce, better drag reduction and more mechanical grip. Therefore the RB has downforce when it needs it in the midspeed corners, but much lower drag on the straights and fast corners.

    What would be really interesting to see: tyre temps throughout the lap.
    Because in sector 3 Max had 2 amazing braking zones (Stavelot, penultimate corner) and George had a locked up left front tyre before the penultimate corner. Optimal tyre temps could play a big part nailing those braking zones.
    And Max gained 3 tenths in the penultimate corner, which is basically down to tyre grip only, because of the no downforce nature of this corner.
    Interesting, huh?

    George made a great lap, but Verstappen seemed to be more on the edge as he was making much more corrections (and generally his path looks like a more experienced driver, maybe apart of Pouhon). They both are great drivers and I cannot see Russel in the Merc next year fighting with Red Bull on regular basis. Also hats off for them for not crashing in these conditions, driving so much on the edge of what's even possible

    • @bijayabiswal4548
      @bijayabiswal4548 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I respect you opinion but I disagree. More corrections don't mean better. Both were almost equal throughout the lap with wildly different techniques. I think in the rain anything goes. Russell took a more creative line because he doesn't have much to lose if he doesn't get a good lap. Verstappen does need to care about getting pole. Both were good but Verstappen wasn't better. The fact that Russell did that in a Williams should tell he did a better qualy lap. Also I think Russell is definitely a title contender if he gets the merc seat provided the mercs don't fall behind due to the new regs.

    • @W0o0dy
      @W0o0dy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bijayabiswal4548 more corrections means what it also means in the dry. Max's car is basically very tricky to drive at the limit. So think about that for a bit... If he can do this in the wet with a tricky car.....

      This whole video doesnt take into acount both cars down force settings which obviously played a part as well. Williams had a much higher down force setting because they could risk getting it wrong so didnt make a compromise on speed which payed off heavily. Thats the real reason Russell could take different lines. Also Max has everything to loose compared to Russell. But Im used to the Races videos mainly trying to downplay Verstappens performance whereever it can when comparing it to British drivers.

  • @theporcupine9993

    Also note that the Williams car was running quite a lot of wing during the weekend, which favour medium corners on grip on corners like Les Combes/Malmedy and he is able to turn in at Rivage and Pouhon. The increased ride height due to wet conditions decrease the amount of downforce of the floor (main aero on the Red Bull that weekend) hence the big amount of understeer/wide cornering on the RB.
