    Instead of tap water which may have minerals, use distilled water.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @dmonat
      @dmonat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking the same thing. I guess one could use tap water and a tooth brush to do the initial cleaning and distilled for the final rinse.

    • @daffyduk77
      @daffyduk77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmonat de-ionised wateris probably cheaper but would do the trick, dissolved ionic salts (conductive) would be avoided

    • @jeffram68
      @jeffram68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I was thinking the same thing.... Distilled water is non-conductive. And rather than drying the water & contaminants back to the board, after brushing it clean, rinse it with clean distilled water to get the contaminants off the board before drying. I've been using this water trick for years.

    • @hightttech
      @hightttech 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffram68: Exactly. Clean and RINSE with distilled water, then final rinse with 99% isopropyl alcohol, dry in warm oven. Or, to really get under BGA's, ultrasonic the board, final rinse with 99% isopropyl alcohol, dry in warm oven. The isopropyl alcohol will help to remove the water, especially under BGA's. All Sorin did was smear the contamination around. He didn't even use a wipe or swab to REMOVE a single drop of contamination.

    • @luisgjegji9766
      @luisgjegji9766 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Distilled water is not anymore distilled if it gets dirty so it's the same thing.

    For boards with liquid damage (sugar, coffee, wine, etc) I put it in a tub with hot water with dish liquid, wait half an hour then clean it with a small soft brush. Then I rinse it with distilled water using a spray container and put the board front of a fan for couple hours. The hot water will dissolve even substances stock between solder balls of the BGA chips and connectors. Boards looks like new.

      I have thought of doing this on some repairs but was unsure. Thank you for the idea.

      @@Frank-Thoresen google use of de-ionized water in electronics. The @Mario Lemerise proposed method is not recommended.

    • @Frank-Thoresen
      @Frank-Thoresen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xxycom8963 I agree with you. I did some research and deionized water is the cleanest and purest for cleaning electronics even in ultrasonic cleaners.

    • @ekeretteekpo3004
      @ekeretteekpo3004 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, from a scientific point of view, dish liquid sort of deionises water as it softens it. So, Mario's method above should apply quite well. I would rather apply the water with a soft brush instead of dumping the board in a tub of water. 😁

    It much better with warm water. In factory we do use a machine to spray warm water on pcb, just to clean the solder paste from pcb. We usually do it when operator use wrong stencil to print solder on the pcb or wrong work order.

    SORIN, Before heating the pcb, use kitchen towel to soak up the water/milk mix, then heat the pcb. (you were diluting the milk and spreading it).
    I used warm water and kitchen towel, then heat on a apple laptop with fruit juice spill, works :-D

    Use of de-ionized ( also mentioned by few commenters below) water both in circuit board manufacturing, as well as the wide use in semiconductor wafer and circuits manufacturing is well known. The de-ionized water is “purer” than distilled water. It has 3 grades ( 50k Ohm, 1M Ohm, and 20M Ohm resistivity) determined by its resistivity. The highest grade ( least conductive) is used in semiconductor wafer manufacturing. For circuit boards with components on them, wash with deionized water, use high percentage ISP ( for displacing/ dislodging water beneath the ICs), and drying with gentle heat right after the cleaning. A good discussion is here: www.circuitnet.com/experts/70402.html.

    I also clean the sticky liquids damage with demineralized water. But then, after drying it with kitchen paper towels and hot air for the first time, I wash the same place with alcohol. The point is for the water to remain under the circuits to mix with the alcohol and thus evaporate faster and completely during the second drying.

    What you and many other Repair-guys always do: put alcohol or water on it, rub with the toothbrush and wait a while or heat it up. So what do you think happens with the dirt/residue? You think it magically dissappears in a black hole or something? You just dilute and spread it all over, but it's not gone! Same with flux. You have to somehow soak it up before you heat it up if you really want to get rid of it.
