- Can you use the all new Apple Lightning cable in your car's USB port? Watch me attempt to take my all new iPhone 5 and hook it up to my Hyundai Elantra to find out just what happens. Does it charge? Does it play your songs? Can you control it with your steering wheel controls? Let's find out.

Hey, at least you tried bro. an adaptar from Apple can solve the issue. Use the same cable that was plugged in already and connect the 30 pin to lighting adaptar and connect your iPhone 5. Have you seen iPhoneTy's video? It looks like it's just your Elantra. From what I've gathered it seems that Hyundai puts some special logic in the adapter, so that when you plug something in without it it tries to read it as a USB mass storage-based MP3 player (like the kinds that can be accessed like a flash drive).
Ahh hey thanks! I really do enjoy the Elantra. It's been great for my daily driver. I would like to have a little more power and sporty feel for the weekends but it suits me very well for my 50 mile daily commute for work. Hope you're driving a car you like as well!

I'm Zeku i have the same issue with my 2012 i think you just have to buy the adapter (the cable that plugs in to both the usb and aux inputs) but idk where to buy one because all of the ones on amazon have bad reviews
That's true it seems. I've used a USB thumb drive and external HD before and noticed that with just the USB connection it allows you to browse the folders and files and stuff but it does not have the same functionality as an ipod or iphone as far as navigating tracks and stuff.
I have the same problem when connecting my iPhone 5 to my Kia Forte. I hope to resolve this problem using the Lightning 30 pin to 8 pin converter with the factory ipod cable.
Yea if only they could get them out soon enough! I hear they've been backordered for a while now.

I have iOS 7, but mine works. You have to leave the lock screen and goto the home screen, once there, you will be prompted with a message (many time at first, flickering on and off) where you are given two options, "trust" and "don't trust". Select trust, and you can play music. The reason for the USB/AUX combo is to provide adequate power to not only play music from your phone, but to charge it as well. I'm curtain you can extrapolate what now happens without to AUX in the equation.

my sonata did the same when i tried to plug in an older ipod mini (3rd gen) directly through the usb with no hyundai adapter....but i can plug directly my new ipod nano and it works fine can even control from the head unit (no choice).... you have bluetooth so it works just as fine if not better than connecting it wired!
Ditto with my '10' Soul. There are adapters from KIA/Hyundai and while they "do" work however there is are no control functions from the dashboard screen, you control the selections from your phone, iPod, ect.....not too wise while driving.
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2013 and my iPhone 5 works just fine with the lighting connector.
If your iphone when plugged through usb to your car only charges but fails to play music you should go to settings > Face ID and passcode > scroll down and turn on USB accessories
it should work just fine after.

You need other aux cable for sound, becacuase taht cable its only for charge the batery of the iphone

Actually I have that adapter and shot a video of me doing just that... but still does not work for passing the audio through to the car. It does allow you to charge the phone however.
Mine automatically plays the first song in my library EVERY time I plug it in. It won’t even allow me to play TH-cam videos because it will override and play my music library. PLEASE HELP ME
just buy the 30 pin to 8 pin (old charger to lightning) converter and plug the original cord up to the converter. You can buy them on ebay for about $3
The lightning cable works fine (charge, play, control) in my 2015 Hyundai Sonata SE. We both have the 128 gig 6 Plus and we refuse to pay $65 for a dealer Lightning cable. My better half got an Apple 30 pin to 8 pin adapter for her 2012 Tucson, but she has to remove her case.

I'm having this problem with the ipod nano 7, you can use the cabel that came with the ipod but it's going through folders instead of songs and that means you won't be able to play all your songs on it. :(

I have a 2012 elantra and nano 7th generation i'm trying to get to display on the radio. It plays fine with the auxillary but that does not display on the radio dash...

Aux will not allow you to control the tunes via your head unit and it won't allow you to charge your iphone at the same time :(
Do you use the lightning connector hooked up with the cable that comes with the car (usb plus auxiliary)?

Thanks for sharing. I have been working with the dealership on this matter. They have replaced my usb and aux ports and now the radio. They tell me now you need a separate usb plugged into cigarette lighter and aux cable. I tried that and still can't get it work
I suggest buying a 30 pin to lightning cable. It's 30 dollars on apple and look to see if your car has bluetooth, in my Mercedes it can detect your iPhone without any cables to play music.

Same thing ha[ppened to me using a 4s, with the mophie case, when I connected it to the usb port on my Elantra.
No change. The car was in accessory mode when I shot this.

My iPhone X plays in my car via usb for about 2 seconds and then says USB No Song. This sucks man
