Is the Church the "New Israel"? | Analyzing Galatians

Is the church the "New Israel"? Have Gentile Christians replaced the Jewish nation in the eyes of God, taking over the unique and special place Israel once held? Join Dr. Charlie Dyer, Levi Hazen, and Gerad Hall as they explore a Bible verse that is sometimes wrongly used to teach misguided replacement theology. The issue in this verse is, "Who is this verse referring to when it mentions 'the Israel of God'?" Teachers who go off track inaccurately declare that the church is the "new Israel." But this misses a key point that God wants to teach the world about His faithfulness to His promises to the Jewish people.
As this discussion progresses, it becomes clear that if someone wants to the New Testament's theology on Israel, they need to study chapters 9-11 in Romans. There the apostle Paul is really clear that Israel is still distinct and that their gifts and calling are irrevocable; with this, all other particular Scriptures must align with what Romans says - including the particular passage of Galatians 6:16. Levi then encourages not to "cherry pick" a verse out of its context, warning that that is often the way to create an interpretation that is on shaky ground. We must read the Bible in the way God intended. Gerad summarizes some key hermeneutical points by encouraging the following: (1) read the context of Scripture, (2) don't read with presuppositions, (3) use multiple Bible translations, and (4) use the clear Bible passages to interpret the unclear Bible passages. IN THE END, Dr. Charlie Dyer says, "The shalom is on the Israel of God, that is, those Jewish believers who understand the true message of the gospel."
