I'm excited man your interviews help me through my injury I think you should have on Marcus Lattrell the seal who lived in the 2005 Afghani helicopter crash who had the army rangers sent to recover the 16 seals and then also have Tom DeLonge Steven Greers blink 182 buddy 😂
I've been watching for 5 minutes and this man has helped me understand more about the way I behave than anything I've read or heard in the last 4 years. Thank you. Best show on the Tube
My dad was a Green Beret and suffered from PTSD. My senior year of high school he got super mad (just like Tom talks about in the first 15min) and he just ended it all…in our kitchen…standing beside the table…3 feet from my mom and siblings. I so wish that he was here today to watch and listen to this episode. Tom and Shawn both hit the head of the nail on this one. Everything they mentioned, I witnessed growing up. We walked on eggshells 24/7 trying to avoid doing anything that would trigger him. Awesome episode. Thank you for raising awareness
Sorry man, my dad did the same thing. He went out back while my mom and brother were out getting groceries and took his life. I often wonder what kind of pain he must have been going through to get to that point.
@@Anonymous18817look up your questions on Google in my opinion no you well not be a part of an elite team like delta force 😅 as far as I know no woman has ever qualified or been able to meet the physical requirements of being an elite operator if you want to do something similar I would suggest infantry assulat team best of luck!!!
Tom if you read this, I knew Tim "Grizz" Martin. When I first got to the 2nd Ranger Battalion in 75. Tim was the M60 gunner, I was his AG. Tim was a great guy. Thank you for telling the story of how he died. God bless you. Shawn thank you for doing this interview with Tom.
Honestly, If I could only watch 5 channels or pick 5 of my favorites on this platform. You are one of them. Thank you Brother. I really mean that. From my soul. Cheers. Thank you. Learned life lessons. Can't thank you enough. Positive frequencies. Much luv. 💚👍
Same here. Top 5, shit top 3 best shows going and has been for the past year or two is the Shawn Ryan show. Plus they’ve really made it better as they go. Shawn and his wife and team are doing great things with this show with every topic that actually matters in this country and world
Hi, I’m a 22 year old woman. What advice would you give to a woman that wants to be a Delta Force assaulter? How does the Delta community feel about women joining them? If you had to go to Delta Force selection again, how would you prepare differently? Has a woman ever graduated from the Operators Training Course? I’m 5’8” and 168lbs, is that a good or bad size? What books or workout programs would you recommend to prepare for it?
@@Anonymous18817 it think there is no women allowed yet on the teams but it has a pretty badass intelligence and recon section with CIA and FBI former female agents . So you can be Delta intelligence , logistics , support 😇😇🥰🥰 , jill.valentine from resident evil games was supposed to be delta force thats so damn bad ass if you tell me. I think it would help the unit to have female operators cause the bad guys dont expect it.
@@tylerdurden1923In order to accept female operators, the standards would have to be lowered tremendously. And thats unacceptable in those communities. It just is what it is.
I worked with an Ex Ranger that fought in Mogadishu (Blackhawk Down) on a Power Plant job in Virginia. His name was Mike. I don't want to give out his last name but he told me some serious stories that clearly moved him mentally. A great guy & American Hero.
I worked with an ex ranger named Mike W. That fought in Mogadishu , we worked In northeast Georgia for a bit. Had some good stories but you could tell it messed with him. Had some funny stories from south America.
I have TBI from a teen running a red light 20 yrs ago @ 65 miles an hr. It makes us so susceptible to other injuries. I also meditate daily & Pray a lot. So Happy to hear we are all recovering🙏🙏🙏Blessings
My brother is a former Marine he served from 92-98. He was in Camp Pendeltan when the Marines were sent to Somalia and luckily he didn’t get sent to Somalia. But at the time not knowing if he was going there or not was the worst. We heard from him and he said he wasn’t being sent to Somalia. The movie Black Hawk Down still gets to him on a deeper level he may not admit to it. That movie still Effects me because I think of that time and worrying about my brother and that emotional hell of not knowing. When service members are deployed I empathize with the families

Jen and Tom are profoundly grateful for all of your support. This was a tough day filming for them. Jen and I talked quite a bit through it when they were filming. People hopefully are beginning to understand even our most elite warriors are not cyborgs and need help too when they come home. Tom only started doing this because of his struggles and to bring exposure to help others.
Thank you for your valued insight there’s no doubting what war does to these stand up warriors! I watched my grandfather suffer hugely and we were all impacted / He was Desert Rat (North Africa) in W2, family members fighting in the Rhodesian Bush War having to leave our farmland and home with the clothes on our backs because of incursions. Brutal war. Here in NZ good friends of mine who were NZSAS went to Afghanistan & Iraq.

I’m super glad that the last time he’s telling the story, he’s telling it to someone who knows what he’s talking about, and can make sense of it. You’re doing good work Shawn. Tom’s foundation is an amazing help to all us Special operations guys making that transition. He is an amazing resource.
First time i've heard/seen Satterly. This man's voice is like a smooth drinki'n scotch and his speaking and demeanor is like a good cigar. I don't know how you got such a real "silent professional" type to talk so freely, but this is one of my personal TOP3 fav. SRS shows. Thank you brother!
For Tom to choose you as the last person to open up to and relive this stuff with, before he puts it to bed for good says A LOT. Awesome show. Can’t wait for the next 2 episodes.

Sounds so small, but the gift personally curated by Shawn for him at the beginning you can just tell made his eyes light up just enough to see his appreciation for Shawn taking the time to think of giving him things he knows he’s in need of and that things that they’ve talked about and remembered. This is so important. Shawn’s compassion is so unconditional for these veterans there’s NO ONE else that compares to it on this platform. Thank you for this content, and dedication to giving these servicemen and women a voice when they need it the most. It’s truly beautiful.
The funniest thing about Tom, having personally seen it. There will be absolute chaos going on and Tom will still be exactly like this without his voice raising above this level. Dude is the eye of the storm.
Wow this guest , ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS WHAT PTSD IS . Wow . I started actually crying listening to this man . What a powerful podcast . This hit home like no other , and I’m not a soldier I’m not in the army. But this man made so much sense to me . ❤😊 😢 I really felt this conversation
When I was in 1st Battalion at 10th mountain 2011-2014, there was still a memorial at Battalion for everyone lost in this battle. They are not forgotten.
I got rescued from a frozen Lake Wappapello in Missouri by a Game Warden, who come to find out, was a Green Beret who carried a SAW during this rescue mission in the Mog. Pretty damn humbling to be rescued from a frozen lake, at night, in 9 degree weather by a dude who came to the rescue of the pilots and operators of the Mog. Thank you boys for your service. 👊
I have the utmost respect for Mr. Satterly, and what he stands for. He is a shining example of what it means to be a Man in America, and to look after your fellow country men. Criminals, bad guys, and evil exist out in the real world, but men like Tom helped keep the country safe while lifting it up at the same time while here...... Pay Homage!

This man is the single best recruitment tool I’ve ever seen. His candor and affability is just great and really refreshing. Makes it all seem possible.
A Sergeant Major. Just imagine the knowledge but mainly the internal injuries he must have. The things that he heard, touched, seen & did. A Superman. A true hero that has changed the course of history.
I was there 3 months prior. Part of the QRF who conducted the The Bloody Monday raid also known as the Abdi House raid or Operation Michigan, was a US military operation that took place in Mogadishu on 12 July 1993 Would love to share our story with you. It was a lesson learned, one that could have possibly been prevented. I was part of the 1/22nd Inf A "Attack Company" that conducted 3 successful missions under fire. God bless those that sacrificed so much, in the Past Present & Future for our Freedoms. "We are Never Alone!" Thank you for all you do! o7
My former Sergeant was there, i knew there was reasons he became a generator mechanic. He had my back. Nothing but respect brother. He was with us in Baghdad. And he knew i was out fighting. And kept me from making bad choices when we came back. Appreciate that brother.

Our people are blessed to have such men. Thanks to Shawn Ryan for documenting our nation's heritage. Fair winds and following seas CSM Satterly! Just a grunt. Sempre Fi~
These shows help a lot. Working in a career field that has a lot of traumatic events, high suicide rates, high divorce rates, and trying to learn how to change is always easier said than done. A few years ago, I was involved in a traumatic event, which I always did great with turning work off when I left. However this event changed something, I couldn’t drive in traffic, I couldn’t walk at times, I would lay on the couch and just vomit for days. After about 8 weeks of this I finally started being able to talk to my wife a little about what happened, listening to these vets talk about PTSD has help me overcome a lot.
I was sent to Mogadishu from Hong Kong with the 13th MEU,'s Amphib Ready Group's Battalion Landing Team 1/9 when this all went down. What a hell hole that place was. God bless this man and everyone involved

As a victim of years of abuse growing up from sexual , mental and physical abuse it’s taken years of therapy to get to the point where i realized it was never my fault . I’m 46 and in my mind the trauma feels like it was yesterday. Thank you for your guest . This brought tears to my eyes ptsd is real and I’ve been onr the edge of suicide as a teen and a young adult. Thank you Shawn and thank you Tom. Gosh bless you all.
I'm never alone because I have the Lord JESUS CHRIST with me. He will never leave me. We the American people must pray for these men for their salvation, healing, restoration and deliverance from the drugs that make people want to kill themselves. America needs STRONG male leadership who are godly and righteous, but we won't have that if men keep killing themselves. It has to stop with prayer, God's love, the Bible, nutrition and natural medicine even if the Lord JESUS has to walk through a wall and tell each man that HE loves them. "Please don't give up men. We need you!!"
Just curious to whether you are a male or female abuse survivor?? I think everyone has trauma of some sort or another growing up. Toms story so far is pretty good. I will have to listen to the other episodes of his interview.
I knew a veteran who was there. He was wounded badly . He spent 7 years as a domicile leader at the Danville VA Illinois. He couldn't talk about it , it bothered him so much years later. His goal was to live at the domicile for 10 years and buy a home, and he hoped he'd have his ptsd under control enough by then to live on his own. This was early 2000s . I was in therapy w him. He was a good guy, and he tried to help all veterans in the program.
Awesome story. A true Warrior I did 27 years and retired a CSM. I was diagnosed with cancer i went to war with that and with gods grace I made it through the battle I am thankful everyday
This video did not disappoint as it was now posted; as I suspected. This is an incredible story. Tom is such a down to earth and approachable person. I was around him for a couple of years in the early 2000s in a support job. He was always friendly, never took a status approach with operator/support guy status. 20 years later, I reached out to his organization for 2 of my friends and he offered his complete services for them. The world is better off with Tom and Jen on it.

Tom and his wife spoke at Jerseyville High School on Veterans Day. He spoke about mental health, too. He made such an impact on our students/families .
The Sean Ryan Show, one of the only podcasts so interesting and informative that I feel compelled to actively listen, find myself rewinding frequently, and never let it play in the background while consciously engaged in another task.
I drove for 5 hours listening to probably one of the best interviews ever Great job Tom . . A privilege and an honor , thank you for your service and story.

The platform that you give these warriors is so important. The fact that Tom is speaking on these things is just a testament to how trustworthy of a person you are. I love the way you just prime here and there, but you let people just speak and share.
Thank you for everything you do for this community Shawn. We truly appreciate having you as a voice for the warriors out there. I know shows like these will have a huge impact on the youth of today. At least we can only hope it will.

When I was younger I’d read my dads old war books on WWI and WW2, not that I’m older I fall asleep reading, this channel has rekindled my interest in warfare and personal experiences. Both my Grandpas served and my dad did to. Looking back I regret not following their foot steps.

I finished this whole series today. This was probably one of the best interviews on so many different levels that I have ever listened to. I am glad he shared this with us. Some of it reminds me of a friend I lost. He was a federal law enforcement guy, not a military veteran, but he had some PTSD issues that I didn’t understand despite my best efforts to. He didn’t commit suicide, but he slowly killed himself with alcohol. It was very sad, but listening to this, especially Part 3, helped me feel like I have a better understanding of it. Thank you all.
Holy crap... I am 10:55 in and him talking bout reintegration, TBI, and PTSD, just punched me right in the gut... I have been out since 11" and I am still having issues reintegrating. This interview is going to be a doozy for me. I love it already. Thank you for your service Sir! I had a Marine buddy who eventually joined the National Guard in MN, was perimeter security for them back when this happened. This was the one thing he never really wanted to talk about during his Marine career.
Hey, Shawn!! You never disappoint. You are an extraordinary interviewer, letting your guest speak without interruption. Citizens who have enjoyed their lives because of you and soldiers like Tom Satterly owe you so much. What stuck with me is when Tom said the army teaches you how to be a killer, but doesn’t teach you how to reintegrate into society. I can’t thank you enough for your service and for providing these podcasts. 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽

SRS has gotten so good at presenting these stories. I'm very proud of you all making that happen. The quality is impeccable and you deserve every bit of attention and recognition. I've been here since SRS started watching it grow. I know you will keep the high standards necessary to respect these folks and their stories and I'm really glad Shawn and team are taking this seriously enough to do it right. @@80Ragincajun they are nothing more than amazing. Tom is a warrior with a big heart and Jen is warm and welcoming. I have only spent a little time in there company, but it has been life changing.
@briangrady367 I hear ya, brother. They way these 2 have had me change the way I look at myself just through their videos. Was like a light switch. To where I just shut everyone off or meet things with anger so people would leave me alone. Was misable, I hated it. But that was all I understood. But now I think of others feeling and going into uncomfortable places. Now I am not fixed, but way better. Thanks to these 2 special people. Thanks for your comment.
Grandpa was in Vietnam. He came home and was so horrible to my dad and his brother. Now, I understand it was what he went threw in that war. I wish there was help back then for our veterans.
This is what the true cost of war is.....not just time and money spent on the war....or the people we lose. Its all the after affects to those that went and returned home. Never the same and no one can truly comprehend.
I'm only an hour in but I just want to say, I like Tom. Man, what a neat guy. Not a dick. Not full of himself. He's just a guy like you or I. You can't help but want the best for him because you know he'd want the same for you. I can't help but want to keep on listening. Thank you Tom.
I showed this to my students this am, they were transfixed. Only one of them heard of the Unit, I did my best to explain from the books Ive read and your Pod casts. I've read CSM Satterly's book also, wish you the best Seargeant Major!!!! SGT May (1987-1991).
Man I stand in AWE of these men! My best bud was #99 and B Squadron Air NCO. I miss that man. Toughest and most gentle man I ever met. He taught me so much. RIP Chuck, love ya bro!
15 minutes into this interview and my life has already changed. Struggled for years with now what I know based on Tom's explanation is PTSD. He described my situation verbatim. Thank you Tom and Shawn!!!
Tom, if you see this I want you to know it means a lot hearing a guy like you talk about ptsd being something you can’t turn off, and something that can come from a variety of sources. I told myself for months that there’s no way I could’ve had post traumatic stress from something that happened to me a year ago because I figured it “wasn’t bad enough”, but I finally sought out professional opinion and now I’m getting help for it
Me too....didnt think some of stuff i had seen in iraq was something that should of caused me issues.... But 9 yrs after the fact i broke down with just an image of a memory.
Hey Shawn. I love your podcasts, and I just wanted to let you know that they are helping people who are NOT war veterans. I'm just an ICU nurse. I worked through the pandemic and I have been having a really hard time dealing with the amount of death I have seen and the traumatic nightmares I have had to watch people go through, on a daily basis during that event and overall for the past 10 years I have been a nurse. The intro to this podcast with Tom really really helped me, along with your other podcasts. Sometimes I feel my trauma is nothing compared to what other people have seen or done. But, I'm learning thats not the case. Just trying to say, thank you brother. And thank you Tom.
My dad was in WWII in Pacific Theatre. He was in the battle of Midway. When the Charlton Henson Midway movie came out, him and I went to see the movie. Halfway through, I realized my dad was gone. I found him outside the theater he was shaking with tears. He looked at me and said did you smell battle? I took his arm and we went home. We didn't know the WWII vets also had PTSD too.
He doesn’t like discussing this shit at all. He suffers from PTSD. Why would u think making this guy read stories of chaotic war stories would be a good idea?
I remember when I recognized my dad had PTSD from Vietnam, it was 1983. It helped explain his behavior, but didn't make it any easier to live on "eggshells". I stayed away as much as I could, finally, after reuniting with a couple of his Navy Swift boat brothers in 2000 he started to get treatment and help. Most know they are broken, but they don't know what to do or how to fix it, so they just drive on doing whatever to extremes: religion, drinking, drugs, abuse, anger, exercise, work... Thanks for the interview.
I have always read and watched stories of brave service men and women, and Black Hawk Down (the book and movie) has been my favorite. I distinctly remember reading about Tom’s heroic actions. Thank you for exploring his story Shawn!

Very happy that you changed the format to have the entire interview in ONE single video because it's easier to find instead of splitting them . Great job interviewing Tom Satterly. Very humble, unlike some other guys you've interviewed so far. Very wise and not cocky. He's just doing his job and willing to change and listen to feedback.
its great to finally put a face and name to one of the guys from the movie. That movie was the first reality check for a lot of americans. The reality was how skilled these men are at protecting and serving the country. Thank you for sharing who you are and your life history.
Thus is by far the best youtube had to offer. Shawn is such a good. Not only is he great at interviewing people but more importantly, he spreads the word of these different problems and situations that all these heroes go through. Thank you Shawn. You are helping and teaching people more than you know.

Shawn Ryan, I have been watching you awhile. You are really good at interviewing but continue to improve. I'm a 73 year old retired Critical Care RN of 44 years and a military brat. My dad was active duty until I was 19. He participated in 3 wars(police actions) and received The Legion of Merit. I don't always agree with your opinion but I listen and chew on it and I share your content with my friends, ex coworkers, and anyone else I think needs information. I will say my dad's perception of Vietnam in particular changed over time. I am a flower child, wind child, child of the universe and whose soul is infinite. Conflict majorly with my dad. I have stood up for Vets in the workplace when it was needed. I just try to remind people of concepts and how things are perceived and to walk in another's shoes. Words are important. Thank you Shawn. Stay safe.PAX. Shout out to military dependents and their critters. Military is family.
Thanks again Ryan for actually reading your comments. I remember asking you to get an interview with Tom because I respect him so much as a delta operator. I actually reached out to him for a class project for my masters program at usc and he actually responded willing to help me. Because time didn’t permit it I was never able to interview him and he broke my heart. Oh and FYI Tom was one of the operators on the ground that caught saddam and handed it over to 4ID. That 4 iD unit was my old FA unit. My unit took credit for saddams capture but it was delta that handed him over to us. When Tom said that in an interview before the first thing he remembered was the support unit and giving us credit. He never gave himself or his own guys the glory. That’s what separates him or rob O’Neil. This man is a true professional and down to earth. It’s crazy to know he’s the elite 1% yet he’s not afraid to be vulnerable. Shawn hope u see this, thank you for listening and paying attention to the fans. I joined the Air Force to learn a trade as a heavy aircraft mechanic, served a little over 5 years and was a proud young E5 when I got out. A few nights at Ramstein AB I handled C-141 medevac flights out of Beirut bringing Marines suffering and dying. War fucking sucks and I have so much respect for the trigger pullers at every level. Thank you for this interview. My heart breaks every time I see a facebook post from one of my high school classmates who lost her son in Iraq. And for what?

I can relate to Tom's military experience. While I was just a 32F crypto tech. I had the same realization one day doing mason work thinking god I need to do something better than this. So I joined the Army at 24 yrs old in 1984. First duty station was Ft Bragg and had access to all the spots on Bragg doing pms on secure voice and data communications. It help me so much in life and yes I still miss it 32 yrs later.
What this man said opening up about mental health really really resonated with me and have made me realize the problem with my own mental state more than any doctor could ever make me understand. Thank you and Shawn for your service and may you both be at peace. ❤
This is my number one channel! I don't want to hear how anyone talks as if they have experienced everything, that they have knowledge of everything, that they have all the answers, they have guests that tell stories and don't ask or research if the stories are true, that may have celebrities and become enthralled with their guest and fail to ask meaningful and direct questions! I am not saying other channels do any of these now! I've listened to many interviews with their experiences or opinions that have nothing to do with the guest! We want to hear the reason these guests are on the show and relative personal information helps also engage us to help futher gather the complete situation. This channel listens, asks the questions and gives insightful or experienced based appropriate reflection! Ego is fantastic, even appropriate when properly utilized, giving personal connection reinforcing the subject! An opening comes about for many people and share their personal untold story that no one else can get from people! Getting a person to speak about a time that hurts and would never speak about. He welcomes without judgment and guests leave knowing how impactful it was. Thats something most channels fear! This channel is great for just being real!!! I love it for that!
Amazing podcast. So awesome to hear the selection and training process of a delta operator. Not a lot of that information is out there and I’m sure they wouldn’t do it on any podcast without credibility. Sean you really have gotten some of the best warriors our country has seen over the last 30 years. Well done sir. Your audience appreciates your hard work and dedication to getting these stories out. The great thing is these stories will now forever be out there in the internet.

Tom Satterly talks with the experience of a 1000yrs.....with the voice of Jack Nicolson. Such a like able dude..... but a stone cold professional. thank you both for the video. Australia.
I can’t explain how much respect I have for these men. Shawn I really appreciate what you do, thank you.
As a veteran, I really love watching Shawns podcast. He really is great at interviewing different people. You can tell he really is a compassionate human being.
Finally!! Thank you Shawn! I have been asking for Tom and Jen for years. These are 2 amazing humans really doing God's work!!
Amen brother.
Couldn’t agree more.
@@briangrady367Tom and Jen taught me more about myself through their videos. I would love to meet them one day!
Just two real men, sitting down having a real conversation #Realwarriors#thankyou
I was in a car accident and the PTSD talk really hit home with me. Thank you for explaining to people how we feel inside! Dude you're an inspiration
15 minutes into this interview and my life has already changed. Struggled for years with now what I know based on Tom's explanation is PTSD. He described my situation verbatim.
Thank you Tom and Shawn!!!
Dude from time 5:15-6:15 this man puts mental health into the best of words. You think about nothing and everything at the same time.
SAME! ICU through Covid, nightmare
Tom should become a voice actor for Military audiobooks!
He doesn’t like discussing this shit at all. He suffers from PTSD. Why would u think making this guy read stories of chaotic war stories would be a good idea?
Therapy?? Peace
Hi, I’m a 22 year old woman and I’m from Arizona.
Very happy that you changed the format to have the entire interview in ONE single video because it's easier to find instead of splitting them . Great job interviewing Tom Satterly. Very humble, unlike some other guys you've interviewed so far. Very wise and not cocky. He's just doing his job and willing to change and listen to feedback.
Mat a add with the episode with the gentleman from ww2, i was so moved i cried. Made me think of my grandparents. ..we have to love our country more.
its great to finally put a face and name to one of the guys from the movie. That movie was the first reality check for a lot of americans. The reality was how skilled these men are at protecting and serving the country. Thank you for sharing who you are and your life history.
God BLESS AMERICA, Brother Shawn!! (MTC/SS, USN Ret.)
Thus is by far the best youtube had to offer. Shawn is such a good. Not only is he great at interviewing people but more importantly, he spreads the word of these different problems and situations that all these heroes go through. Thank you Shawn. You are helping and teaching people more than you know.

Tom came and spoke to my sfpc class, an absolute legend
I promised in a comment before that if Shawn ever got Tom on here I would join and become a Patreon and that I just did
I joined the Air Force to learn a trade as a heavy aircraft mechanic, served a little over 5 years and was a proud young E5 when I got out.
I'm learning alot about my ptsd symptoms. I'm successful but that ptsd is a beast.
Watching this episode and listening to CSM Satterly talk is starting to make me think I haven't done enough yet.....idk tbc.....Shawn thank you for all that you do on this platform and for fellow vets, CSM Satterly Thank you for your service and sacrifice, if I accomplish 1/8th of what you have by your age I would be very proud.
SRS never disappoints. Legend after legend after legend. 👏👏👏
Thank you for your great service Tom. From a veteran to another veteran, I salute you sir!
This was eye opening about PTSD as my Dad was 22 years in the Air Force. Egg Shells explains his lashing out but not his abuse.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service. You are truly a hero and we love you all .
This is my favorite podcast. I live in Quincy, Illinois.I've listened to hours of your interviews. Your show has taught me what war really is. Keep up the good work!
What I live next to Quincy Massachusetts lol no kidding Weymouth ma
