      @ThatOne yeah obviously. But tree wells are a phenomena i hadn't really considered.. There's a difference between ordinary deep snow and a tree well.

    Life saving tip: whenever backcountry skiing, never EVER wear your pole straps. If you in any way end up buried (avalanche or tree well) the poles will prevent you from making an air pocket

      Yea but still, if your mates have to climb back 300 meters in deep powder that will take some minutes. Some other minutes to maybe even search you if you are buried. Some more minute to dig to your mouth to breath. Those minutes could be your mates last ones.

  • @Delibro

    Very important is that you dig to the victims mouth first if it is buried as soon as possible, cus depending on the snow he/she has only minutes to survive.
    Also if you see a glove or a part of a ski, never assume its something thrown away, always assume its a person attached.

    You won’t find these in the Eastern US because there is not enough and most of the trees are tall deciduous trees so snow doesn’t slide off them like on conifers.

    • @stuartschaffner9744
      @stuartschaffner9744 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is completely wrong. We generally call them Spruce traps rather than tree wells.

    • @bobanderson6656
      @bobanderson6656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stuartschaffner9744 Yes. I know of no reason why this couldn't happen in the snowy areas of the East. Spruce, hemlock, white pine, balsam maybe could all have this happen. Doesn't happen as much here because we don't get as much snow in most of the East
