A VL walkinshaw doing a 2:14, nearly 3 seconds faster than the previous years VN Group A, and quicker than any of the 93 spec VP Commodores & setons EB falcon?? That's how you know, without even looking at the door number or driver name on the window, that larry was driving it!
Great lap by Larry in the old VL . CAMS made sure they had plenty of new parts under the hood and allowed to run high RPM , from memory 8000 rpm and Group C TWR jaguar brakes ….which were the best brakes available at the time especially running @ 1250kg - down from originally 1340kg.
I've said it a thousand times, why did Brock settle for obviously second rate engines from 1986 onwards when first Les Small engines powering Grice, and then other builders, including Perkins, had mutitudes more horsepower. Even some privateer Commodores could pass or pull away from Brock down Conrod and up the hill.
Fuck I didn't no that mate a very wrong move there I say it would have to do with money but I for one wouldn't have done that how did you find that out?
I reckon because HDT was still factory-backed in 86 and would've been a bad look for them if brock went for engines built by privateers Instead of building their own..
the vl group A looked soo good in race trim - and larrys car is a great example
Good ol Larry and the VL sticking it up the factory teams

Slide throttle engine and aero gave VL a good package...
Wonderful racing and beautiful cars.
