Hey that’s me! I just want to say thank you for reacting to this, I appreciate it! Also find it hilarious that I asked to see a Bat VTuber only for one to react to my video lmao Much love!
I think I get the most of your video and agree, but I think you're statement at 34:23 is rather problematic. Call me nitpicky, and perhaps I'm overthinking it too much, but I'm an English major and if Literary Theory taught me anything, originality is about as real as a unicorn made of stardust. "Originality" isn't real. You're looking for something "new", when in reality everything is a remix, to speak in the words of Kirby Ferguson. Everything is built on pre-existing ideas, and nothing comes from a completely and entirely new origin, because everything we make is based on the compilation of our collective thoughts and, as I said, ideas. In the words of a person I just recently discovered, a man named Jim Jarmusch: ""Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination" and ""Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent". So the real goal shouldn't be to seek originality - if someone wants to be a Vtuber that's a rabbit or a fox or whatever - their originality is not what the problem is, because originality has NEVER existed. Their AUTHENTICITY is what matters - whether what they deliver beyond first appearances is "unique" enough to warrant being fresh in the minds of those who consume their material. When you search for "original" things, you aren't really looking for something new in an objective sense - you're looking for something new TO YOU, which may or may not be new to other people who perceive the same thing, person, or what not that you do.
I agree with what you've said here, but I also think it is a nitpick in this particular circumstance. Originality in it's pure form might not exist (I agree), however, there is still a lack of variety and.... new-ness? in vtubing. Most models and concepts fit in a handful of categories, and it does get tiring and repetitive. Hell, there's a whole category of just "shylily-likes" of aquatic mammals mixed with cat/dog/fox/etc with oddly downturned ears. It can be fair that maybe that's just the asthetic they like, but that doesn't mean it doesn't feel like a real lack of originality in the space.
@@hexjuice You make a good point. I was pretty nitpicky, and I agree there is a lack of variety. I think I just got hyper-fixated on the use of the word "original" when you and Xander were focusing on the more broad recognition of how many models tend to be similar to one another as opposed to something that makes people go "ooooh, that's pretty interesting". My apologies! I do think the Vtuber community would benefit from more creative thinking when it comes to how anybody wants their model to look - they should focus on what they specifically like instead of trying to appeal to some kind norm. Again, I think I just got hyper-fixated; the video itself, both your reaction and Xander's critique are strong and make strong points!
@@hexjuiceong I wanted to like Fillian so bad, but when I confirmed she stole a model it was over lol. I'm an artist myself and that was a HUGE dealbreaker for me xD I'm like you're extremely popular and well off, you mean to tell me you can't afford to buy an original model?? Like why you gotta be thar egotistical and so mf lazy?
The thing that bothers me is how so many Vtubers are literal thirst traps, both in their designs, the way the interact with their audience and even with their own irl appearance. I find that terribly offputting.
Hearing how hard it is to get a proper model makes me so thankful I struck gold with the first team I contacted. Over a year later and I wouldn't change a thing.
Honestly, there's a few vtubers I do watch. But the issue I've noticed is the fact barely anyone is held accountable, (Uki Violetta being the obvious big example among many) the only time they are held accountable is when they believe they're bigger than their critics, while ignoring the tone of the room, and personally I know of one Vtuber that basically condoned the harassment of my ex years ago because my ex wasn't a "big enough name in the community" essentially. Don't even get me started on the "be good to others" while actively wishing harm on people they disagree with for whatever reason, there's this blatant hypocrisy of "ignore it and their past unless it's detrimental to your growth", you see it all the time in the cliques and circles formed. There's so many examples I've seen just swept under the rug, and it's really upsetting ESPECIALLY with domestic violence/racism jokes being let slide due to public image, it's as if they grow and sell their soul to the corporate entity and it's really sad.
Ah racism. The time old story of “You can’t say that word because you don’t have the right skin tone.” I believe there’s a word for that. Starts with an r, about six letters long.
A major problem with this community is the lack of communication, something I am a regular victim to and frequently banndd from communities because of the streamer not communicating something to me.
This brings back memories from 2020 that I forgot about. i used to be on the edge of a small vtuber streaming friend(?) group. They had a private discord channel I got into for us all to like plan colabs and what not, but half the time it was some of them having like mental breakdowns in text channels.
I just started using a vtuber avatar this year for my content. So I look to videos like this to caution myself to the potential shenanigans that I might encounter during my journey. Thank you. 😊❤
On the point of originality, aren’t bunnies and cats some of the animals most frequently considered cute? Don’t the people commissioning models want to enjoy them and like them? Wouldn’t that lead to more bunnies and cats being around than almost anything else? Can it really be hit with the criticism of originality? Isn’t that more like telling them “I get that you think bunnies or cats are cute, but there’s too many bunny or cat models out there. And I think that you should pick something else.” It comes off more like trying to police people’s interests than anything else really.
My personal experience with Vtubers have been nothing but pleasant, probably because i only actively watch one "big" vtuber and the rest are relatively small and the rest i consume their content through clips
Honestly, it seems the best way to do it lol. I know the bad part exists because I'm a sucker for drama content, but my little corner of the vtuber community is nice and... relatively peaceful.
As far as vtuber designs go i started as an unoriginal slime blob but then i upgraded to babiniku slime girl model as i dont see slime girls too often. Drama wise it reminds me of highschool and its just kinda funny lmao
I’m learning CGI atm and rn I am personally trying to change features on my characters to differentiate different races (mine all look white atm 😔), cuz realistically they all have different anatomy.. hopefully I can learn to render soon 😭
All this drama just makes me more unlikely to watch big-ish indie vtubers. There is enough drama irl and I watch vtubers/videos to decompress. Which just makes me watch more corpo vtubers. They don’t spout drama and as long as I stay away from twitter, no drama.
I'm so glad you mentioned that there's less darker skin tones created DUE to where vtubing originated. This was getting me fired up because of peoples' ridiculousness... Most times when people say white-washing, it sounds like their attacking westerns since alot of people call us white instead of western, gets really confusing and annoying. This community is reminding me of people insulting people on secondlife, where people put avatars together and even take photos' and people are offended when someone has a character that doesn't have the users specific skin tone for a photo shoot and change depending on the pictures they take. Imagine never opening up to show a pretty or badass picture because some people think about skin colour rather than how to puts a picture together, what a boring world that would look like.
Honestly him talking about the parasocial problem isn’t just an issue in the vtuber community it’s been around for ALOT longer than vtubing has even been created there’s people getting parasocial with weather woman actors and even normal ass TH-camrs bringing this up as if it was only an issue in vtubing is weird asf imo
Yes but since Vtubing is heavily inspired by Japanese Idol culture its amplified by 10000000x Vtubing for some reason cannot get away from the idol culture and because of that it falls into the same pitfalls The big one being that the Vtubers have to be seen as accessible to the viewers , the entire industry is built on parasocial relationships .
Ahh Marina in thumbnail Very glad that person is removed from the spotlight. One of the primary hogwarts legacy boycott supporters that also looked the other way when people were doxxed. She even endorsed it using her being trans as a shield.
oh I remember draco used to be a moot with him and when I knew about his relationship with a 11 year old he went to my dms telling me that the 11 year was forcing him to date her and I just told to just get to like a doctor and get help and just blocked him. the guy only blamed others. I regret knowing him because dude became more aggressive after he would go to others and say what he said to me saying it wasn't his fault and that we are all the idiots
It seems like some of this is just culture war garbage. LIke trying to say Fillian is an inhuman racist because she made an attempted improv joke where she said "You're breathtaking" was a quote from G.Floyd. Also the part about edgy jokes needing to all be "satire that's main purpose is denouncing the issue" or else they're evil for making it. like, no. Not all attempts at jokes have to be clever, scathing satire on an issue. The essence of a joke is that it's not real, and it's cringe when it's treated like it's reality, and 100+ people try armchair psychoanalyze accusations against a person for the sake of outrage engagement.
22:43 I want to get a Vtuber model of my own. But currently don’t have the funds to get my own atm. So I never looked into character design and rigging. I never knew that there alot of artists who don’t know/ or refuse to do darker skin tone even if light tan! LIKE WHAT?!?
There's two points i disagree with but are probably the most controversial: the lolis & white washing. The issue with "lolis" is that it's corrupted beyond belief and used to bully smaller women. Originally it was an aesthetic term more meaning "small and cute" which applied to petites, chibis, and children. Paired with anime's style creating a more youthful appearance and we have a mess. Historically (i believe) tge corruption of loli started with the french as some guy made a manfa but explicitly used "loli" and sexualized underage characters. Nowadays it's a term used by perverts or to abuse small women. For example Cyberpunks Rebecca or Konosubas Megumin is a body type many women have but their called children because they're not walking bimbos. It's demoralizing and abusive, and so i think it's the ibtent that matters more because the "1000 year old vamp" is clearly not best intent. As for white washing i don't think it's racism. Using a generalization as justification is especially not helpful, but what i think is that pale skin is much easier to decorate. With light tones is very easy example anyone in that community would have with majority white & asians, but light colorless skin makes majority of colors pop. Dark skin in contrast is a deep orange which can clash and mellow out in designs a bit more especially depending on it's hue. In addition adding any feature that associated with darker people can come off as extremely racist which can ruin their careers, but neglecting can also seem racist as if you just changed a white character to be darker. Either find and artist who understands it well or give leeway too an inexperienced artist.
Who use "loli" to abuse small women exactly? Because i don't think the "loli lover" bother to do that, let alone calling them "children". Since they don't mind real people much & it'll likely be a cosplayer who they'd be talking about, they won't be the one to call the women "children". The "1000 yrs old vamp" i'm pretty sure hasn't been brought up by them since 2020 or before now... They don't even use that to refute any arguments, i don't think they even meant anything offensive by that.
The thing about predators is so true. I have never run into so many predators until I got into vtubing and let's not even go into the sexist ones or the ones who try to lower your self esteem so they have a chance with you. My god..
The thing I’ve noticed about these “predators” is that usually the actual predators are the ones that accuse someone of being a pedo just because they like an anime character. But I guess we are in different sides of the VTuber community
another banger, another banger from the amazing HexJuice, still at it with the great content. I often get caught in these rabbit holes of drama from one extreme to the next and then I see things as simple as the powdur/lily situation and it just puts so much in prospective, like not everything is such a big deal all the time and the vtuber twitter community really needs to touch some grass truly. like the other day I saw an artist that is redesigning lola's vtuber model and people were in the comments of some of her in progress pictures were saying that the hat specifically looks "familiar" to yet ANOTHER vtuber's design, BUT IT ALSO JUST LOOKS LIKE POMNI'S HAT?? (from the amazing digital circus, also for the life of me I can not find the posts again I thought I saved it but I guess I didn't) the artist in the comments was very kind about it from what I read, saying that they didn't realize and would talk to lola, but at the same time was stern to everyone being just straight up disrespectful. Just one of those things I fear that's gonna be taken and twisted from some people still not over the hole lily/Lola situation to say she's "at it again" or something, hope I'm wrong but twitter is just a drama farming death pit
I think a lot of the negatives of the vtubing community come from the very thing that attracts most people to it: anonymity. An avatar provides that extra bit of shielding from the consequences of your actions
i must say the Lack of accountability and parasocial behavior is extreme in the VTuber scene. Each Time i saw something comming up about any VTuber and their wrong doing, there are always a extreme big group of people who forgive any and all wrong doings the Streamer was doing and come with dumb excuses "they are funny" "i don't care for what they did." "No they never did anything wrong, you all are just hating for no reason." The worst is that these VTuber never give an apology or only write maybe 1 sentence as an excuse to say they are sorry and just keep doing what they did before and getting praised by their blind followers. The fault lies on both parties. The parasocial followers and the VTuber who just runs away from their wrongdoings. It doesn't matter what they did, is it a crime, racism or just blank spreading lies about others. No one of these VTubers has ever adressed their wrongdoing in a way of apology or just ignored it from the start.
Slight correction to your comment around 23:15. It depends on what you define as "vtubing". If it's virtual TH-camr, then it actually did originate in the UK arguably with Ami Yamato (www.youtube.com/@AmiYamato) who predates even Kizuna Ai who is supposedly the one who coined the term.
I don't understand the skin tone thing, if the artist cant follow the brief don't pay for the inadequate product, pretty soon the real artists should be more widely known for their skill in following a brief. In the past if I produced textures that were not up to par I'd be fired.
Yeah her take on that is weird. If you don't like how an artist does a job, don't go with them. Most artists are good at some things and not others. Her take on that comes off as weirdly race baiting.
I mean if I went by the thumbnail a lot of them are lewd tubers who are afraid to go that extra step others have the pampered princess attitude then you just got he douches and stuff it is honestly like a high school club nearly I guess anonymity lets things slip out better. Mix in they are basically Jesters who have to do what their audience want while keeping up the perpetual I am either single forever due to them starting off single or they have a forever husband or bf due to starting off that way and you get a weird concoction of fuckery. Only a few actually start off as themselves and are able to stay that way but even they have to obey the golden rule of staying single or with who they are with from the word go.The more I think on it it is a little bit suffocating isn't it.
It's always so fascinating when these types want to whine about racism they are immediately racist as well. 13:58 "Skintone darker than mayonaise." Is it now okay to compare skin color to substances? Because there's another color comparison that you won't like.
bruh, I got commissioned once to draw a friend group. it was a night setting with small bits of lantern lighting so naturally I shaded everyone according to the setting. darker, bluer for the night parts and yellow/orange on the parts where the lanterns are close. They insist that the one dark character be colored exactly as the reference regardless of the background. As if dark skin is made of different material than the other skin. in the final piece it looked like the character was just drawn over and added by someone else and they approved it. some people regard darker skin color so highly they're willing to cripple something perfectly okay.
Yeah also like... If an artist is not good at doing a certain skintone, then go to someone else. As an artist, there are just some things we can and can't do well. I know some artists who won't do darker skintones because of the response like she gives in this video.. Why risk being called racist just because you can't do a shading up to someone's par.
I don't understand whitewashing models. It's literally called color picking from the reference sheet. If you aren't sure, send a rough draft to the client who commissioned you and ask if this is the right skin tone because color theory can be weird sometimes. But it's NOT THAT HARD TO GET A CORRECT SKINTONE good Gods.
I get what he's saying about the music thing, but people cater to their audience and always will. I like finding new music that I like, but there are just some types of music that some people categorically don't care for. If you like Rap or Country, there's nothing wrong with that, but I personally won't listen to it. Doesn't matter if it's someone I like to watch or not, it's just not my style. Telling people to ignore their audience is pretty much telling them to kill off their channel and comes off as pointless complaining that not everyone shares your tastes.
@callherluna is a goated jellyfish vtuber - referring to you saying in this video you’d like to see more! in any case, this video has been great! thanks for putting this on youtube, it’s been insightful!!
Horrible stance. World War 2, for example, had two sides, but it was abundantly clear that the Axis powers had nothing of merit in what they were pursing. And that's just one example. Another is, say, under or overeating. There's multiple sides to that, and yet the one objectively correct one so far as general health is concerned is to eat in moderation. I could go on, such as how there's the side of potential mental illness to child predators, yet that means absolutely nothing when they take that step and try to get into contact with an actual minor rather than seeking proper help. So on and so forth. There may always be two sides, but that does not mean both are equally right or equally worth considering.
@@am-ranth8955 That still means both sides needs to be considered first to properly understand it. You knowing multiple sides and realizing one is better than the other IS taking them in consideration! But now you just wave them away because it's not worth?
32:40 posting dirty laundry and hoping the mob takes care of someone is less direct than actually talking to someone which is why people who struggle with confrontation will pick it. Additionally, if it does lead to a direct confrontation, this results in the confrontation coming to them instead of them having to initiate the confrontation, which is hard for them.
For those Vtuber who only mostly tweet and not live stream as much , calling them as Vtweeter seem appropriate . I normally mostly watch Hololive , JP side mostly . I don't normally watch Indies Vtuber , outside of a few that's make video content on youtube . So on the drama aspect tbh I don't really see it that often , but if there is one it will be bigggg like Uruha Rushia/Mikeneko stuff . I normally view Indie scene as drama breeding and infested , so I avoid it most of the time. On the racist , There's a case i would say is and exception . Sakura Miko from HololiveJP saying the N-word multiple times during her GTA playthrough livestream , in which she didn't have the context or understand the word at all and just copying the game character . On Loli and Shota , is to each their own tbh , like most of HololiveJP are openly like fictional Loli and Shota stuff , Shirakami Fubuki openly like Shota , Biggest Vtuber from JP side Houshou Marine openly like cute loli stuff , and tbh I see nothing wrong with it , as long as you can separate fiction from reality .
The Shota/Loli stuff is typically only hated by Western audiences. They can not grasp the concept that 99% of people that like those characters have no sexual feelings attached to them.
@@citizenspaghettiit’s not that, it’s that a majority of western audiences can’t separate fiction from reality and think that everyone else is the same too. At this point I just think that you should have to take a test once every 3 years or so once you hit 18 to see if you can differentiate fiction from reality and if you can’t your internet gets taken away and you are forced to get therapy
@@citizenspaghetti Western vtubers complain about loli drawings daily and ignore their own government systemically trafficking children. They're not serious people.
Know what is annoying about pointing out racism and bigotry. It exist everywhere and at this point in time a majority of people experience it but only the socially deemed correct tragedies are allowed to voice their problem or have anyone care enough to not tell them, "so what?". I say this from experience. To try to bring this up as a point cheapens your good previous points at least to me. Just to note, if the point of bringing up the crap from above is to point out racism. It exist everywhere, it feels like human nature for some people. Ive seen racist people be kind just as much as i have seen non racist people be ignorant. Due to society, when i have felt racism against me, i kinda just have to get over it and move along. I feel like thats the best approach and dont let racism make your points or arguments less valuable by bringing it up sadly. (we might be more primal than we care to believe)
To be fair, racism running rampant isn't exclusive to being a Vtuber problem. Long before the rise of the VTuber, Twitch chat way back when I started watching streams in 2013-2014 was full of racism and inappropriate racist comments. So bad that one of the emotes that was commonly used for racism, BrainSlug, was changed from being the face of a black streamer to the green slug thing we have today.
I can never understand how come it is so hard to find an artist to make a black or brown vtuber model. Like you can do all this detail but can’t make it a different color? The gyaru trend has shown that. Ya they can make draw a brown skin tone so wtf?
tbh im not so sure its racism, if the artis refuse to make a black or poc-model in general. Its most likely, that they are afraid, that if they do it everybody will call them out as racist for making the model with certain features. Also im not sure, if animestyle is a good way to do this, because as soon as anime tries to represent destinct races/cultures/whatever and diviate from the basic anime style, it always looks wonky at best, racist at worst. So this could be a major reason, why these vtuber-artists avoid it.
Yeah as a artist i do wanna trying making darker skinned characters, but lowkey im fucking colour blind when it comes to shades of colours Im scared to fuck it up lmao I could pick a colour that i think looks fine and just learn it looks like blackface or something to most people
@@N7warrior007 I'm all for letting people do what they want. But you're color blind, as an artist? I mean mad respect for trying your best despite this being a losing game and a half, but just saying I doubt most artists are gonna have that as a reason for not accepting these commissions. I just find it hard to believe the majority of artists have intense paranoia about drawing models with a darker skin. It sounds absurd, not to invalidate the experience to those that do, but in a community that already experiences a lot of racism having a sizeable number of artists be that opposed to it just can't be a coincidence, not to mention other communities with a lot of artists don't seem to have this issue.
I remember that drama. She went after my favorite script writer AtramentumX. Also funny how she’s another white haired elf with purple horns. Not hating. Just saying- it proves a point. It is white bread.
I never delved too deep into vtubing myself besides a close friend of mine attempting to do it back in 2020. I moderated for him on twitch and discord and he dealt with so many toxic individuals on streaming in general, he actively avoided Twitter because of how dramatic people were even back then. Literally had people do call outs on him because he was "problematic" with words he used on a daily basis and even his design. Vtuber Twitter is actively cancerous and if I ever considered making a Twitter account for vtubing, I'd never use it for anything besides tweeting when I went live, 80-90% of the vtweeters on Twitter should literally touch grass.
There is nothing that bothers me more than the "You wouldn't last in an Xbox 360 lobby" comments. Most of the time it's directed at people who likely spent a lot of time in those lobbies. The bigger issue is these people are saying that people calling out racism is some sort of weakness, as some sort of own or something. Which is absolutely ignorant. Don't get me wrong, I miss the days when one rash statement didn't get your entire life banned, but I've never been the guy wanting to scream the n-word at people. That word feels nasty to think, let alone say. I've also never understood boiling everything about a person, positive or negative to their skin color. I wasn't raised that way. I would say there are also large groups of VTubers who are bigoted toward men and straight people. I just wish we could all get along and respect each other.
I honestly have an interest in vtubing but due to lack of time i never got into it sadly. Also i hate twitter so i donno if idd be good at doing vtubing.
It really bad in the make-up artist industry and hair styling industry as well. They don't teach people how to colour correct for non "white" models if you go to school and Artists in every indurty need to lear under tones when working on humans. It will also help with none human skin tones as well. it's you job as artist to learn skin tone a MIX the paint/colour you need. As for hair stylists schools they stright up are not thaught how to deal with any type of curly hair. it's only strigh of wavy. I'm pale AF white with my crazy merida hair, every hair stylist just doesn't know you do with me when i asking for a simple trim. They given poodle hair, layered my hair to the point have having bang that I never asked for. I gave up and have my family cut my hair. 🤣 In a lot of Asain countries their a heavy "Value" placed on being pale. You're palenesst is seen a commodity and the subject of how valuable you are a person. You also seen as "high class" if you are pale or can afford to be pale as well. (the amount of laser Melanin destroying treatments is crazy to me. The amount of thousands of dollars people are spend to get hires as an receptionist in India... JUST to be a receptionist) But colorium is in ALL cultures and communities... And all are just a terrible way to treat and think about people.
This sums it up pretty nicely, hatred and bigotry is so easy to come by in vtubing for almost no reason. As someone that mostly views/wants to create in the community, I see the idea of vtubing as something that bursts with creativity. But now we just have unoriginal content after unoriginal content, every form of hate like petty small issues, transphobia and homophobia. And most prominent, as a whole topic in the video, racism. And the worst part is that nothing will really change about any of this for a while.
Vtuber prime is 2018-2022. It's beginning to die down since 2023. Now I'm not saying that Vtuber content will disappear. I am saying that the puppy love period for Vtuber popularity based on content. There's still a target audience It's just the bandwagon audience moved on.
that whole powdur situation made me so mad on how she acted and the way, she was trying to blame it on herself and make jokes. saying they attend harm from them to the other Vtuber. there's proof of her saying that and she gets mad that people bring it up.
Something I always thought was a little sad is how some black/brown/ tan whatever VTubers feel obligated to use a white model. Not going to name names, but I can only imagine it’s draining if it wasn’t implemented by choice or desire. PS. Also my bad I misclicked. I thought this was an IronMouse video.
I was there when the boom started, with clips of Japanese VTubers mainly Hololive. It was nothing but a pleasant and friendly community. I don't want to point finger but the toxicity started when the English side became popular and the market blown up.
My lukewarm take is I'm tired of every time someone says that they are Eldritch horror. They sport the most basic anime girl in history. Whats the point your giving generic not horrors beyond my comprehension. Theres only one vtuber who does it right. An she does horror content on youtube Mimika Morph. I want more vtubers like her i crave the horror everyone keps saying they are doing but are so lukewarm about.
ok wait hold up. Just to clarify, at around 16:30 you say making offensive jokes is fine, but saying horrendous shit is not. how in any way is a joke about the n-word pass "horrendous"? I was vibing with a lot of your takes but this just doesnt make any sense. especially with the context of "offensive" being entirely subjective. You even state later when he mentions boondocks that boondocks is great. I agree! The n-word pass joke is entirely on par with the boondocks lol.
well internet anonymity make people toxic since it started, many youtubers who dont hide they identity do all drama milking, but with Vtube anonymity behind avatar, there more reason to milk drama i think, plus people who fanboing someone, will be fanboing no matter what, even if person for who they crusading for gonna go and say "people pls, dont make it in crapfest" white knights whill be white knighting anyway (try to joke about Trailer Swift and see what happens) =\
Her name is MarinaVT. If you recognize her, it's probably because she was the main vtuber that was plastered all over Twitter for having her vtubussy out when Twitch changed the rules around "artistic nudity" for a day. lol
5:39 jokes on you i dont get any attention AND only have 3 viewers 😂 But yea it is wild how twitter vtubers can be. Shit is goofy cringe Edit: i forgot vtweeter is a thing, thats cringe it even has a name
Of course but the current topic is VTubers and some of these issues are specifically unique to that community (ie. fighting over similar vtube models) while others can be seen with folks who don’t use models. I think however in some aspects it’s easier for VTubers to get away with thing because they have that built in anonymity.
Hey that’s me! I just want to say thank you for reacting to this, I appreciate it! Also find it hilarious that I asked to see a Bat VTuber only for one to react to my video lmao Much love!
HI I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO AND YOUR VIBE THIS WAS SO FUN TO REACT TO
I think I get the most of your video and agree, but I think you're statement at 34:23 is rather problematic.
Well its male dominated so they use the lure if they are empty people leave or get crippling parasocial in the worst way so theres that-
Hearing how hard it is to get a proper model makes me so thankful I struck gold with the first team I contacted. Over a year later and I wouldn't change a thing.
That’s a really nice model!
VTweeters make the "community" look worse
VTuber model I respected their uniqueness so far: bat, turtle, ferret, AI pretending to be human, rock, fat guy, angler fish, bread and a worm.
I wonder what a bobbitworm vtuber would look like.
Is the rock Biboo by any chance, or someone else?
@@Cure_Hana Ding, ding, ding!
Honestly, things are pretty chill for Hololive EN.
Gatekeeping issue. Vtubing should have stayed a Japanese hobby. Westerners can't handle it responsibly
As far as vtuber designs go i started as an unoriginal slime blob but then i upgraded to babiniku slime girl model as i dont see slime girls too often. Drama wise it reminds me of highschool and its just kinda funny lmao
I’m a month late but the model looks good,
@@itsGreyHat thanks lol
Yes but since Vtubing is heavily inspired by Japanese Idol culture its amplified by 10000000x
Vtubing for some reason cannot get away from the idol culture and because of that it falls into the same pitfalls
The big one being that the Vtubers have to be seen as accessible to the viewers , the entire industry is built on parasocial relationships .
As a victim of falterxv i truly hope he gets banned everywhere, no one deserves to be hurt by him
I know a friend who would love the idea of a jellyfish Vtuber model. I’ll bring it up to her and see what she says.
I don't even get access to all the drama since X is not available on Brazil atm. Love the content Hex! Just met ya, thank you YT recommended.
Ahh Marina in thumbnail
Very glad that person is removed from the spotlight. One of the primary hogwarts legacy boycott supporters that also looked the other way when people were doxxed. She even endorsed it using her being trans as a shield.
vtuber and vtuber twt are a different breed...
Vtweeters are generally scumbags based on what I've seen for the last few years.
oh I remember draco used to be a moot with him and when I knew about his relationship with a 11 year old he went to my dms telling me that the 11 year was forcing him to date her and I just told to just get to like a doctor and get help and just blocked him. the guy only blamed others.
They don't even use that to refute any arguments, i don't think they even meant anything offensive by that.
huh, I normally assume most vtuber models are asian, since they come in a lot of skin colors
Hex' motto: Geneva Convention?, more like Geneva Suggestion. (3:05)
Just one of those things I fear that's gonna be taken and twisted from some people still not over the hole lily/Lola situation to say she's "at it again" or something, hope I'm wrong but twitter is just a drama farming death pit
to the first point irl tubers have just as much drama as vtubers
I think a lot of the negatives of the vtubing community come from the very thing that attracts most people to it: anonymity. An avatar provides that extra bit of shielding from the consequences of your actions
i must say the Lack of accountability and parasocial behavior is extreme in the VTuber scene.
Each Time i saw something comming up about any VTuber and their wrong doing, there are always a extreme big group of people who forgive any and all wrong doings the Streamer was doing and come with dumb excuses "they are funny" "i don't care for what they did." "No they never did anything wrong, you all are just hating for no reason."
The worst is that these VTuber never give an apology or only write maybe 1 sentence as an excuse to say they are sorry and just keep doing what they did before and getting praised by their blind followers.
My model is a zora = ^°^=
I was so happy to draw her
Slight correction to your comment around 23:15. It depends on what you define as "vtubing". If it's virtual TH-camr, then it actually did originate in the UK arguably with Ami Yamato (www.youtube.com/@AmiYamato) who predates even Kizuna Ai who is supposedly the one who coined the term.
for me I don't vtubing as a community but more like a medium, like as a way to express their stuff online
16:08 based af, it's just common sense to always understand how your words impact others whenever you're joking or not
I mean if I went by the thumbnail a lot of them are lewd tubers who are afraid to go that extra step others have the pampered princess attitude then you just got he douches and stuff it is honestly like a high school club nearly I guess anonymity lets things slip out better.
16:56 isn't that Jabba's palace music from Star Wars but altered for copyright? Very serious part of the video but it's an interesting choice for BGM
Im pretty new to streaming in general, I just use a PNG sock puppet and I didn't know the drama ran so deep. Dear god.
I love yapping VTubers so much!!!
It's always so fascinating when these types want to whine about racism they are immediately racist as well. 13:58 "Skintone darker than mayonaise."
Is it now okay to compare skin color to substances?
@@lawrencelopez9839 [Insert Ode to Brazil-chan]
I know exactly the kind of shit you're talking about.
Its just a black guy jealous he's not as popular as "white" vtubers and using it as an excuse to call em all racists. Boring trope
There will always be two sides to EVERYTHING in the world no matter what it is.
Lmaooooo both of you are spitting facts
As the first soul reaper vtuber (at least that I've seen) my boy was speaking facts ong
19:10 also Hispanic, I clicked bc of your hint of melanin, so sorry people aren't properly represented 8[ you're so well spoken
Sakura Miko from HololiveJP saying the N-word multiple times during her GTA playthrough livestream ,
in which she didn't have the context or understand the word at all and just copying the game character .
On Loli and Shota , is to each their own tbh , like most of HololiveJP are openly like fictional Loli and Shota stuff ,
Shirakami Fubuki openly like Shota , Biggest Vtuber from JP side Houshou Marine openly like cute loli stuff ,
and tbh I see nothing wrong with it , as long as you can separate fiction from reality .
You know, a platypus would be a pretty unique choice…
Yeah as a artist i do wanna trying making darker skinned characters, but lowkey im fucking colour blind when it comes to shades of colours
Im scared to fuck it up lmao
I could pick a colour that i think looks fine and just learn it looks like blackface or something to most people
@@N7warrior007 I'm all for letting people do what they want.
It sounds absurd, not to invalidate the experience to those that do, but in a community that already experiences a lot of racism having a sizeable number of artists be that opposed to it just can't be a coincidence, not to mention other communities with a lot of artists don't seem to have this issue.
by 2020 there was about 10,000 active vtubers so i'd say its atleast over 100,000 about now.
We demand Jellifish representation!!!
Hex a latina!? Oh dayum
DAYUMMMMMM
I remember that drama. She went after my favorite script writer AtramentumX.
Also funny how she’s another white haired elf with purple horns. Not hating. Just saying- it proves a point. It is white bread.
I feel like more or less all those issues just exist in streamer culture in general. Or even internet culture.
Ahhhh I'm glad to be into the original umbrela! While not a jellyfish, I'm a Kelpie :3 Still starting out my content tho!
Omg Drago 😲 He was in my discord server and harassed me while I was pregnant.
Oye Chika. My mom, my sis and I are Hispanic too, but we're pale. It is what it is.
i just Discovered you recently! you got a new Sub! :)
I honestly have an interest in vtubing but due to lack of time i never got into it sadly. Also i hate twitter so i donno if idd be good at doing vtubing.
Jesus, I really don't belong here... These people's minds would melt if they learned about Clayton Bigsby.
im trying to learn how to make vtuber models for the colorism reason, its honestly rediculous
In a lot of Asain countries their a heavy "Value" placed on being pale. JUST to be a receptionist)
But colorium is in ALL cultures and communities...
Some people claim you only like vtubers because they are the only way you can be acceptable racist.
I used to follow Powdur, but then she did that shit. It was so immature on her part I stopped watching her and moved to the new girl. 😂
Wow... you're like... the 2nd or 3rd V-tuber i've ever seen. This is why I don't use social! xD
Vtuber prime is 2018-2022. It's beginning to die down since 2023. Now I'm not saying that Vtuber content will disappear. I am saying that the puppy love period for Vtuber popularity based on content. There's still a target audience It's just the bandwagon audience moved on.
Digital gang we in here!!!
I watch some vtubers but I absolutely watch Penumbral for the drama
that whole powdur situation made me so mad on how she acted and the way, she was trying to blame it on herself and make jokes. saying they attend harm from them to the other Vtuber. there's proof of her saying that and she gets mad that people bring it up.
Japanese culture actively encourages to keep everything behind closed doors. Interpret that how you will.
You cant blame the English streamers this spawns from Idol Culture which is inherently toxic.
@@dead_vibes It's not solely about idol culture. Streaming in general has its own brand of toxicity, which vtubing naturally inherits.
"It was nothing but a pleasant and friendly community." that is just factually wrong.
idk why you would make that up.
Yeppppp
I am, indeed, terrible
Sounds more like dark souls music to me but I could be wrong.
Oh yo this is funny. My sister sent me this; I’m actually a jellyfish VTuber! Hi! 😂
Merperoni on twitch might be a pleasent surprise for you, especially their new model WIP

ok wait hold up.
So, we can presume that the problem with VTubing is a lack of maturity.
Bat vtubers are awesome
well internet anonymity make people toxic since it started, many youtubers who dont hide they identity do all drama milking, but with Vtube anonymity behind avatar, there more reason to milk drama i think, plus people who fanboing someone, will be fanboing no matter what, even if person for who they crusading for gonna go and say "people pls, dont make it in crapfest" white knights whill be white knighting anyway (try to joke about Trailer Swift and see what happens) =\
I don't watch alot of vtubers but i do watch smug alana
Who's the VTuber next to Hex? She looks so familiar...
Her name is MarinaVT. If you recognize her, it's probably because she was the main vtuber that was plastered all over Twitter for having her vtubussy out when Twitch changed the rules around "artistic nudity" for a day. lol
5:39 jokes on you i dont get any attention AND only have 3 viewers 😂
But yea it is wild how twitter vtubers can be. Shit is goofy cringe
Edit: i forgot vtweeter is a thing, thats cringe it even has a name
I'm sure this sort of behavior isn't exclusive to just Vtubers. How many degenerate content creators can you guys name.
Of course but the current topic is VTubers and some of these issues are specifically unique to that community (ie. fighting over similar vtube models) while others can be seen with folks who don’t use models. I think however in some aspects it’s easier for VTubers to get away with thing because they have that built in anonymity.
