I was enjoying watching Wild Kingdom with your puppies in the yard. One was sitting there, the other was walking back and forth. Was smiling at the fun you were having with the app Staci. When you have no one to talk to, you can talk to yourself. I could see having a lot of fun with that feature.
Thank you soooooo much for these tutorials!!! I have been using the basics of KC for many years, but I just upgraded to the paid version last year and haven't taken the time to learn all the new features. KC actually sent me an email alerting me to your videos, and I am grateful that the current state of things (covid-19 quarentine) has given me the time to actually watch the 4 videos in this series and I look forward to more in the future. This is so helpful and I now love KC even more. Thank you and I am hitting the bell reminder, so I won't miss the next installment.
Thanks, Staci. I've been a KC user since the beginning and never quite got the adjusting of the rows. Watching you demonstrate this part made a light bulb go off in my head! You are always my goto for help!
I started using Knit Companion’s free version a while ago. After watching your tutorials I actually bought an iPad so I could use all the things on there. I have the pay version now and love it! This was a great help. I’d like to learn all the stuff I can do with it. I don’t use paper patterns at all anymore.😃
Thanks so much for these knitCompanion videos. They are so clear and thorough. You are always my go to for needing help or explanation and I’ve been knitting for 22 years. Happy knitting 🧶
You convinced me to try kC on my old IPad (IOS10.3) and I am currently on the 1-week upgrade trial. Well, I don't think I will ever go back to using pencil and paper for my knitting projects! I can synchronize it with my more recent IPhone and use some features from latest versions to edit things more easily. I agree with you it is a game changer. Thank you so much for your fantastic tutorials - without you, I would have never heard of kC, and never likely would have tried it. You make a wonderful ambassador for this app. Radha x
Very grateful to you Staci for these online demos on KnitCompanion, decided to take the plunge and have started projects. You are right, it's a definite game changer!
This is fantastic software obviously developed by knitters for knitters! What a game changer. Thank you for your expertise - so inspiring . I have been using the free version on my phone but obviously this is not ideal. Now I need to upgrade my iPad hardware and upgrade to the paid version!
Thank you so much! I have been using KC for a few weeks now - but I should have watched all these videos before. Love the customizations - no more sloppy notes with my pencil!
Great video! I think the paid version is amazing and I learn new things all the time. I hadn’t known about the row reminder notes - that will be very helpful I love your enthusiasm Staci and I’m looking forward to more videos
Thank you so much. I'd been enjoying using KC with charted patterns, but was struggling with text, especially when there are repeats. I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks, so am going to rush to get several patterns uploaded and set up to be simple enough for post-op drugged me. I also have to go back and look for the puppies. I was too focused on you and the information the first time.
I am getting so much more from the app that I’ve been using for over a year. Thank you for all of the tips and direction!!! Suggestion: would you consider addressing how to keep your local files organized, or cleaned up without losing the notes you’ve added along the way. Thanks for everything you do.
I’ve tried knitCompanion “free” version and love it. What I can’t figure out, and I’m being a little snarky here, is how to use knitCompanion simultaneously while watching a movie or podcast on my iPad...! Split screen just doesn’t cut it (and I don’t own a TV...!). I’ve been contemplating getting a second cheaper iPad (like the iPad Air) to use for knitCompanion, while I stream videos on my iPad Pro. Just haven’t convinced myself to do it yet...! I probably will someday. Thanks for the tutorials, Staci!
@The Enabling Cook - Split screen works just fine when viewing reading material (like a kindle book and an internet page, or a book and watching a streaming podcast/video, which I do when streaming something with commercials - I’ll read during the commercials!), but trying to watch a tv program and view details of a knitting chart on a half-screen is not something that my almost 65 year old eyes is fond of contemplating...! Hence, my thoughts about getting a second iPad!
Three days ago, I trashed the linen yarn for a project I was doing because the stitches were too difficult to follow (and because the kitten made the decision for me by playing with it beyond untangling). Two days ago, I found these KnitCompanion videos and downloaded the app. Today, I watched this video and got excited, because these features would have made the pattern easy to follow, and would have saved the project (except for the kitten, that is). My mind is now happily cluttered with all the possibilities of this app, and I can’t believe I’ve only seen 4 of the playlist videos! What in the world will be next?
Great video. It saved my sanity. I used the Row Markers tans One Tap Row reminders to add notes. I used this to set up a sweater pattern that has 12 panels. Each panel pattern has a different number of rows ie 32, 16, 14 etc., Within these patterns there are instructions such as “Row 3-8 - repeat Rows 1&2” ( can’t physically put in the rows so they show up visually). So that I get continuity across all the panels for each row, and I know which row I’m up to I’d like to know how I can use the row marker to count those Rows 3-8 (this obviously shows as Row 3 - the next row is Row 9 - how can I make the row counter account for those extra 5 rows.. Gosh, I hope this makes sense. Thanks Stacey…love your work.
Thanks Staci for the KnitCompanion videos you are doing. I have been using this software for almost five years now and it is the only thing I use. I dislike having to print out pages and pages of text. I’m not a monogamous knitter as I travel a lot (used to) and traveling with printed patterns for three or four projects was cumbersome. This program is brilliant , the only problem is there weren’t videos to go along with it that were comprehensive enough for people to understand all the nuisances. I wish you had been doing these videos years ago so I wouldn’t have had to spend so much of my knitting time figuring out things for myself, lol. Keep up the great work. I will look forward to the video explaining how to get the counters to “ repeat Rows 1-6, 5x”. Your hair and nails look good btw.
I am really enjoying your channel. When I first saw your channel and looked at your picture, it appeared to me that it might be in Arabic, as you appear very middle eastern in that picture. Imagine my surprise when I finally opened you site a year later and found that it was in English and also very helpful. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Staci, I love this series! Do you know if there is a way to adjust the row highlighting and counting feature to repeat rows? Example, my pattern instructions for row 4-6 say “repeat row 2”. Thanks in advance!
I wish I’d known how to do this when I was knitting Birds of a Feather shawl, which was written instructions ( not my preference). 2X in lace section, I forgot to purl instead of knit on last row. Lol, I could have done a voice memo “ hey purl this row or you’re gonna be frogging”. 😂
I love your videos Staci. You explain KC so well. I have been watching the Apple version videos as well as the Android (I'm an android user, but totally jealous of the Apple functionality). Usually too late I realise that the instructions do not apply to my version. But I cant help myself by watching them. ;-) I am wondering if it would be possible to add either Android or Apple to the title (or somewhere else appropriate) of your videos if they are platform specific? And indicate in some other way if they are generic? In fact a list of Android vs Apple specific videos would be very helpful. That might save me getting confused and looking for functionality that is not available on my platform. And it will make it so much easier to filter as to the platform. Sorry to be a pain to ask this. PS I am a paid Android subscriber.
Great videos, very inspiring... I just baught it, with apple. Do I have to buy it again for android or is it the same account ? I keep watching the series of the playlist !
I use KnitCompanion all the time and love it. I do not understand how to prevent the magic marker from counting the no stitch as part of a knit stitch run. The colors are slightly different but they are both empty squares and get counted together. Do you know?
Great video! Will you be doing any for combining different parts of text or adding repeat rows so you can just keep moving row by row? The new software has me so confused on adding multiple text pieces. Thank you!
Thank you, your videos are awesome, as ever. I’m ready to give up GoodReader and get started! I seem to remember when I first checked out this app years ago that it only allowed certain patterns to be set up, and that the set up was a pain. Does it really work with all my pdf patterns in Ravelry and Dropbox? Because I only need it for super dense, multi page charts. Embedding the video support is so helpful ( especially for your patterns but also for links to tutorials). Thanks for doing these, you are a really talented teacher.
Question...are these projects savable as pdfs or printable? I love, love ths app. Your video instructions are so helpful. I taught myself from the tutorials on the knit companion website but I think yours are a bit more helpful from a user viewpoint. it is so easy for me as a new chart reader to follow the charts. Can't wait to add my voice!!!
You're asking if you can print all of your notes, etc? Because PDF patterns are printable on their own. If you're asking about the notes, etc, I don't know the answer to that. You'll need to direct that question to support@knitcompanion.com
I looked at the list of features that differentiate the two paid versions, but only the tool name is listed. There isn’t a description that I can see, so I’m having a hard time determining with version your video tutorials are using. Are you using the “essentials” or the “setup+ essentials”?
I assume that the "Setup" feature is available on the Apple version only( ?) so the Customizing a Written Pattern features (i.e., one tap marker) in this tutorial are not available for Android... Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for the info Is there a way to group patterns by type, say all sweater or hat etc? I know you can use the search feature but you have to redo it every time you want the info? Also, I couldn't get the search to work unless the specific word is not in the title. For example, sweaters search only shows patterns with the word sweater in the title. Many patterns are not named this way. Thanks for the help 😁
I don't think there is a way to group patterns, but you can search your projects by whatever you name them...so you can name them "sweater..." or "hat..." to do a search for either of those words and have all of the sweater or hat projects (projects, not pdfs) show up. Not sure what you mean by "redo it every time". You project info is saved, even if you close the project. When you search your PDFs, you do have to know the name, I don't think there is a way to search by category, but I could be wrong. You can ask support@knitcompanion.com for clarity...I'm answering the best I can, but I'm still learning the app, too.
Ok, great! I will start to name them this way! Redo them everytime, I meant everytime you want to see all your sweater or hat or? You have to do a new search, that's all. 😊Thanks
I'm always putting out new tutorials (project videos)...the last one was just a few weeks ago, another coming up in a couple of weeks. So important to watch these to learn how to use the program! I already always looked for her instructions on knit stitches.
Thank you. I like the way you go through this and not too much overload like some instructors do.

your videos make me want to switch from Droid to iPhone!
I've heard this from so many people! I'm an Android user, too, and my iPad is pretty much my knitCompanion and PatternGenius machine. :)
