(3:31) Technically it's an LHD and not a carrier.
(4:30) Due to geography and differing capabilities, a naval invasion of the Beleric islands would be out of the question, not would be unlikely to see fighting, it would be no fighting, period.
Overall, I do know the scenario limitations, but it needs to be said that realistically, Spain invokes article 5 and Morocco looses any chance of victory. And Spain would have the leverage, even if there's no NATO, of being able to bomb effectively anything in Morocco at will - which means a crippled industry, and a very angry population.

You forgot to mention the Spanish defence industry, far ahead of Moroccan's that's nearly non-existence. Apart from that, there is a naval base in the Canary Islands and an airbase. Spain could strike from the north and the east simultaneously so Moroccan army would be forced to split in half to defence their mainland and Ceuta and Melilla could resist.
Also, Spain could bomb Tanger, Casablanca or Rabat with thermobaric bombs if Morocco dares to invade Ceuta and Melilla once the airspace is on the Spanish side.

There are a few things with this video.
First of all, training level. Spain has a profesional standing army in which every soldier has at least 3 years of training. Morocco has an army reliant on conscription (which means that 2 years is the most training the average soldier has). Specially in Ceuta and Melilla: the Spanish forces there are elite units that have historically been able to overcome numerically superior foes.
Second, the naval disparity (which is shown) is so big that the Spanish fleet would be able to blockade Morocco without fear of retaliation, or if anything destroy the Moroccan fleet (not to mention that all the Spanish frigates have AEGIS systems) which would in turn allow Spain to send reinforcements or even launch landings in Moroccan shores. Melilla is within range of a military base of the Spanish Army of the Air (our Airforce) in Armilla, Granada, from which airplanes and helicopters can fly sending reinforcements or launching strike missions against the Moroccan forces.
Third, the abilities of the Typhoon and the F-18 (modernised) against ground targets. It's true that the Moroccan artillery is self-propelled and can be easily moved, but it's also true that both fighters can track those moves with radar, and can both move faster and launch guided missiles that can track the artillery (in order to destroy it).
And, fourth and last, most of the Moroccan equipment is imported from other countries, while most of the Spanish equipment is produced locally as the Spanish policy when it comes to acquiring military equipment is to buy production licenses and then produce locally, or even co-develop together with other countries. Thus, Spain would be able to replenish any losses in equipment, while Morocco would have it more difficult, specially if Spain declares a blockade of the Moroccan coast.

first b.s, morocco does not have an army reliant on conscription, we have a standing proffesional army, conscription was brought back in limited numbers only in 2019 and was cancelled next year, morocco has a big enough land army that it can take ceuta and melilla and fortify them, spain would be limited to air raids and morocco has decent air defences and artillery, spain loses, deal with it

Binkov forgot to mention that Spain develops and builds its own submarines the S-80 plus class. This submarines are of the best quality for conventional submarines and in the next couple of years four of them will join the navy. Spain, France and Germany are working on a 6th generation fighter jet and the Spanish army enjoys much superior training and equipment than the Moroccan army. Urban warfare would also equilibrate the difference in forces in Ceuta in Melilla. It is important to remember that many Moroccan citizens live in those cities and that Spain enjoys naval and air superiority. Spain also counts with very professional special forces such as the legion and also counts with many desert warfare trained soldiers. It is very likely that any attack on Ceuta and Melilla would be countered by attacks on Casablanca, Tangiers etc which are coastal cities. I therefore do not agree with Binkov that Morocco would win, how can they when they are outmatched in air and sea and their army would be locked against strong fortified cities that are continuously resupplied and count with many Moroccan citizens as a deterrent

This is an interesting thought experiment, but even without the help of other countries, Spain would have quite some possibilities. These are some I have thought up in a couple of minutes. I'm sure there are more and better ways.
1.- If Spain has the air and the sea dominated (as the video proposes), why would Spain end the war? Bombing a couple of ports and airports, and blocking the maritime transport, Morocco has no possibility to import or export anything. Most of Morocco's exports go through Spain anyway. To the east the border with Algeria is closed. To the north and west is Spain. To the south the Sahara and the Polisario.
2.- Bomb the water supply for agriculture. Wait a couple of months, let hunger make its thing, and wait until the Moroccan people topple their own government.
3.- Another possibility. There are about 1 million Moroccans in Spain. Take them, send them to Ceuta and Melilla and expel them through the borders, and let Morocco deal with them. Just like Morocco did a couple of month ago, but in style. Let's see how the country manages with 1 mio. refugees.
4.- Spain could also build in a short time a thermobaric bomb. The blueprints exist already and the bomb was tested. A couple of those would be enough. Morocco would never be able to do the equivalent to Spain, as it has not the capability to strike in depth. They would never reach Madrid, not to talk about Santander or Bilbao. Spain could bomb Rabat or Tangier to ashes.
5.- Block the strait of Gibraltar and send international trade into a spin (remember the Ever Given?). Let's see what happens.
The thing is, everything would depend on how far the Spanish government would be willing to go.

What it is really is a joke, to begin with, it is the title, it cannot be Spain VS Morocco, if not Morocco VS troops from Ceuta and Melilla. It seems that the troops on the peninsula would continue to play cards and the transport and landing ships would be cleaning up. There are so many errors that they are not worth commenting on. Which morocco has the most troops? We are lost! Nobody in the country would think of making a call to enlist more men. And so everything. He trusts everything to the fact that he has many more infantrymen, but to have them available he has to empty the Sahara, with the Polisario and Algeria there. This man has no idea of logistics and quartermaster and the strategy of war even less.

In my opinion I highly doubt moroccos victory. Spain has really experienced soldiers and even has the oldest units in the world . Also spain has increased military spending which would increase to around 30 billion in defense spending and would allow the purchase of the f35 B that the navy has been waiting for and maybe building another amphibious aircraft carrier . During this years spain has also been making huge improvements due to their projects such as the f110 that would become the best frigates active at that time or the s80s ( would have 6 units in total including the s70s) or FCAS . A huge factor that would change everything would be the fact that spain is part of nato and that the most likely thing is that they would get supplies from all nations of nato. Another factor that could also influence in this unlikley war is the volunteering of spanish citizens to try and defend their homes from morocco . At the end of the day this war it is very difficult to know who would win and who would lose since as I mentioned there are many factors that influence .

Mh... I think there are some points that the video didn't account for that would make the outcome of the war being different.
    1. Differences in the fighters. When you use jet fighters, it's extremely important to know how behave each fighter and their weaponry. Eurofighters are planes designed to be extremely maneuverable as well as fast (can reach Mach2+ with afterburners and Mach1.2 without them). They are equiped with MBDA Meteor AAM, which is an AAM able to reach Mach4 speed and with a range of 150km, being the one with the longest range, and deadly if fired from 40 to 60km. Now, there's the fact that the eurofighter has been praised for almost any pilot that used it and that have won several practice combats.
Why am I saying this? In the video, it's said that the ratio of planes shot down would be 1:1, while that is only possible when the two fighters are identical. In a real combat situation, having a better weapon, electronics and a plane designed for a specific role matters a lot. The Typhoon has shown that it can outfight and win several enemy planes with little to no casualties on its side even when outnumbered (Typhoon Meet, Seville, 2008, where 8 Typhoons fought 27 enemies and won without casualties; and DACT, Canary Islands, 2009 where 2 Typhoons fought 8 F-15 Eagle, scoring 3 and 4 kills on the F-15). So, in a scenario where the Moroccan's F-16 are not upgraded to the V version (and that is mostly cos I don't know the specs of this version), they will not stand a chance against a Typhoon scuadron.
What would happen in this case? Spain could lose some planes, but by no means would be a 1:1 or 1:3 ratio for sure. 1st because the superiority of the Typhoon and 2nd cos for each F-16 that Morocco has, Spain has 3 Typhoons. If the Typhoons can already outmatch the F-16s when the are outnumbered, they should stomp them when they are the ones who outnumbers.
    2. Behavior of the artillery. Since Spain would have control of the seas, they can use their artillery in order to support both, Ceuta and Melilla, from the seas. In the first states of the war, the focus of Spain would be to secure a seaway that would allow to evacuate the civilians to the mainland. Achieved that, the main focus of the navy should be to provide artillery fire in order to both maim Moroccan's infantry/tanks and AA defenses. Maybe Melilla would be harder to defend, but in Ceuta, given its geography, the Termopilae strat can be used in order to hold the line.
    3. Several places for landing. Securing sea and air superiority and being able to maim Moroccan's AA defenses, army and tanks from afar, there's a lot of places which can be used to land. Maybe Morocco diivided it's army between those who invade Ceuta, those Who invade Melilla and those who try to invade Canary Islands. If they have an army of 170k soldiers, divided by 3 that means that they will have almot 60k soldiers for each front. Suposing that no contry will recruit more soldiers from the populace, Spain, even using all it's army, would be able to just to fight in equal numbers in one front. That means that Spain must be wiser and use its advantage. If the Moroccan army is spreaded in order to defend all the coasts, then a bomb from air or artillery fire from the ships can make a hole and, if the army is put together, then they will sustain several damage from the same air or sea attaks ehy Spanish troops land away from them and join the fight from the rearguard.
    4. Use of special forces. Spain has the G.O.E., a group of elite soldiers that can infiltrate in enemy territory and perform several missions like destroying AA defenses or cut supply lines. Both actions would mean that either the aircraft can enter in Morocco air space and perform bombings in key places, like the capital, and that the soldiers in the vanguard will not get reinforces or supplies.
    5. War Goals. In case the war starts, Morocco and Spain will have different goals. While Morocco could set for invading Ceuta and Melilla (and even the Canaries), Spain would want to defend them AND assert control over Morocco. Why? Cos being able to control the strench is one of the most valuable strategic points Spain could have. That's why Spain would focus in a longer war even if that means to lose control over Ceuta and Melilla. They would like to lose a battle in order to win war.

Interesting to imagine, but it will never happen as the US, Britain and the rest of Western Europe would force both Spain and Morocco to not start anything, and would quickly meddle in and extinguish any potential escalation between them as there are strategic and economic interests on the line in that zone, and another conflict zone with a humanitarian crisis and rise of new terror groups so close to Europe would be catastrophic and the last thing the world needs with all the chaos going on.
The only ones who would like a war to happen are bored Spanish/Moroccan teenagers in these comments.. plus Russia, Iran and their vassal Algeria, for obvious reasons to anyone who keeps an eye on the region, and these reasons can be summarized into "land, gas/energy, hegemony, control"

You’re very knowledgeable Binkov, I just question why you never make allowances for special forces? In this particular scenario. Attacks on isolated costal infrastructure. The vulnerability of Morocco as 90% of their population is on the coast. 5 of their 7 airbases are in the north. The Moroccans would be out of the air war in days.
Air artillery/ naval support as well as reenforcement of ground troops makes taking the the Spanish territory a tall order. Large concentration of Moroccan troops would be smashed. Ships on harbour or planes on airfields would be destroyed before the had a chance to fire a shot. My big question is who has the most munitions. It’s up to Spain to pull the sharp teeth out of Morocco. Only quest is how long that would take. An occupation of Spanish territory could result in reprisal attacks on any of Morocco’s cities.
Without allies means no diplomatic pressure. I think this would wake up a Spanish sleeping giant. Resulting in a total war against Morocco.

    • @jaybee2402
      @jaybee2402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actively targeting troop barracks before they are deployed would be political suicide. Defending the two exclaves is not going to get much public support when people worldwide discover they are actually in Africa. I disagree with Binkov, they can be defended by Spain alone but at the cost of 30,40,000 dead Moroccans. Also, Binkovs own rules - no 3rd party. This is unlikely as nato is contractually bound to help. Thus you will see French and Italian planes laying waste to Moroccan front forces, at which point Casablanca decides it's not worth risking massive losses going up against air supremacy.

    • @TrueWeej

It's intriguing to speculate on unlikely wars breaking out, but Spain is a nato member, ANY military attack on her by a non-member has a fixed outcome. The French have decades of experience fighting in North Africa. That's the fundamental reason Spain allowed 160,000 of her citizens to settle in those two exclaves, she wouldn't have allowed it if she wasn't confident any attack from Africa would be crushed in hours.

Wouldn't Spain attack the Moroccan possessions in the Sahara from the Canary islands? It could gain a lot of valuable territory with relatively few troops once it gained air superiority, IMO

    • @franciscobermejo1779
      @franciscobermejo1779 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@juba gamer Hi! The attack in the Sahara would not have the intent of permanently keeping any territory, but would rather be a way to force the Moroccan army to fight a two front war across a great distance, forcing them to split resources from the attack in the north. With air and naval superiority, plus some degree of local support, the Spanish forces would give Moroccan land forces quite a hard time... Also, while the fighting in the cities would be very hard for an invading force, surely that would also be the case in Ceuta and Melilla, right? Iraq is not a good comparison, as the mission for Spanish soldiers there was literally "don't die" 😅
Hopefully Morocco and Spain will never fight, and remain good and friendly neighbors 😊

Good job Binkov. Though I have to say that if when Perejil happened is any indication there would be a morale berserk frenzy in Spain. The question is if the air superiority would transform into a "security bubble" near Ceuta that allows the continous deployment of ground forces including MBT's and such. If it's possible, Morocco is in trouble. ¿Why? If there are enough forces there, Morocco would need to mass troops and equipment to deal with it, which means the air force is gonna smash a great, great deal of enemy MBT's, IFV and APC's, at which point the spanish forces having more or less all the equipment they brought , would be facing a disorganized army (which will contain a shiton of conscripts to make things worse). Also for extended Melilla resistance I have no doubt that the spanish marine infantry would be deployed there FAST, even when the moroccan air force is still ok, basically because parking a pair of F100 frigates near means very bad news for the moroccan airforce.

Change this scenario to add the US, UK, French, and Italian navies, and it's basically over on day one.
Plus, it would be a mess for the Suez shipping too - after all, they'll just get stuck in the med unable to pass if there's a war at the main exit, and the long way around... Binkov's videos are great, but he has a tendency to severely underestimate the impact of airbase attacks in the Air Superiority/Offensive Counter Air war. It's not all about how many fighters/bombers are in service and how good they are, it's also (and I would say, based on experience, mostly) about preventing the enemy from flying at all in the first place. Attacks on Command and Control Centers are also critical. Finally, he also has a tendency to vastly overestimate the lengths of the conflicts he analyzes. In modern conventional warfare (i.e. not counting counter-insurgency/counter-terrorist campaigns, which can indeed be very protracted), the losses would come so quickly that conflict resolution would have to be fairly prompt, one way or another. We are talking weeks (if not days in some cases), not months or years as Binkov often states. Still, good stuff, love the videos.

Under these circumstances pilots and maintenance crews would have high fatigue influencing combat readiness. On these temporary "airfields" with all the dust, debris and less than ideal "runways" the planes would wear faster.
