RADM LeClair... I have nothing to say about him other than I admire how humble he is. That last part about being able to replace a piece of a ship, but not being able to replace a life is very strong. THAT is a good leader, that some in our armed forces need to take notes from.
When you sat down with your tray of food and said that the food is good, the sailor next to you with his expression said in his thoughts, "if you were here for months, you wouldn't think the same" although yes, at first glance it looks and feels brilliant. 😅
Hahaha that's how it was in the army on deployment. First couple weeks you're like "hey this ain't bad!" But by the end we're like "omfg this f*ckin lasagna AGAIN!?"

Really liked seeing a bit about the ship and meeting some of the people. A crew of 60 is small for a ship of this capability. Also liked hearing from the Admiral, who seems like a great guy. He's right; it's the sailors that make the Navy work, not just the hardware.
I like that the military lets us see all this and a bit more in depth about the equipment. Jay leno just did a 30 minute video on the presidential limo and we barely got anything from the video
Read up on the LCS class and you will see that it’s a complete failure. Why he chose to visit these for the video is odd when it’s not performing for the US navy.
Sam you should definitely make a video about the United States Space Force! I think you would love getting to look at how GPS satellites are flown from Schriever SFB.

@@Shirou-s5mNo one retires at O3. It's the minimum tank an officer should be promoted to in their first contract. It's the bare minimum to be allowed to stay in nothing more. I would have preferred a Sailor that could and would call out all the many many deficiencies with the Leaky Crappy Ships.

I hate the LCS ships with a passion. I'm a sonar technician, the sonar module on LCS ships failed. However, the Navy kept sending them sonar technicians. During that time they never went underway, they would just stand permanent three section duty watches and deck maintenance. I know a lot of really good people who got out because they never got to do their job, had their promotions stymied, Amber basically completely disregarded. Now our rate is undermanned because so many people got out.

Check out the italian PPA Paolo Thaon di Revel, they have a naval cockpit design and in general much more advanced ship. In general the US Navy likes to do a bunch of things old school, which is not a bad thing per se, I think it's a good thing to have tried and true stuff... but in terms of simply"looking sci-fi" the italians and japanese have the US beat.
I work as a Chief Engineer aboard a twin screw conventional Tugboat at Moran Towing Corporation in Brunswick, Georgia. I am a Honorary Plankowner of the USS. Savannah LCS-28 because when she came to the Port of Brunswick's Mayor's Point Terminal in February 2022 to be Commissioned, it was our Moran Tugboats Dorothy Moran and Ann Moran that docked her. We where all designated Honorary Plankowners and we have plaques aboard the Tugs designating them and us as such. I have a hat and commissioning book from that event. Next year I plan to work for Military Sealift Command so ill probably see this ship again during an UnRep ( Underway Replinishment ). Awesome you toured the exact ship I had the honor to help dock.
Awesome ship. Had the opportunity to explore the USS Kansas City LCS during Fleet Week in SF. Incredible ship. The technology is amazing with all the fire retardant covering its like a spaceship. The only issues is that they don’t know how to use it. They’ve done support for drug run prevention, but it has little to low armor bc they wanted to keep it light and fast. I hope they find a place for this ship soon.
During my days in the US NAVY, they were Mess Management Specialists (MS)....I was a Personnelman (PN) working in the ship's personnel office/admin. Now we are called Personnel Specialist.

The small crew with multiple jobs is familiar to seeing the Sub crews but with fresh air and without the claustrophobia. Great video Sam, Adm LeClair seems like an awesome leader to his men and women.
If the US Navy doesn't want them, give them to the US Coast Guard. These ships could chase down smugglers. They would be great to guard our coast line.
The maintenance costs are very high, having a really complicated combining gear and propulsion systems and a lot more problems waiting for this relatively new aging combat ship
The Hulls can't handle waves due to the aluminum used in construction. You read that correctly, the DEI navy built a ship that can not handle waves. The hulls were bending and the welds were cracking from what other heavier ships classified as light waves. They can not survive a single hit from an enemy bomb or missile without sinking. Aluminum is acceptable in airplanes because they have to fly but the worst choice for the hull of a Navy vessel.

I am impressed, the Admiral said it correctly, an officer or NCO is required to bring up his subordinates to one day take their position and learn leadership while in the junior grades!! However there comes the responsibility to discipline as well when the need arises. That is usually the captain of the boat. In the air force it started with me on explaining to my troops what was okay and what was not okay!!
....every brand new project better brand new design have at first its flaws or chilhood issues and can be resolvable when time is passing, so, the using material: high grade aluminium alloy and shock of speeding in water are quite distructive, ...and secondly combination of gears, same gears unite many engines ( this last matter mostly on Freedom class)

I used to operate those heavy haul trailers under the LCS coming out of austals hangar. We would go about twice a year and move the ships out onto a barge then across the bay to a dry dock. Its unreal seeing them in person.

‘Culinary Specialist’……in my days with the Royal Air Force we called them cooks. The Sergeant or senior rank in charge of the kitchen was ‘Chef’.

It took them awhile but the Navy is dedicating the Independence Class for minesweeping missions and the Freedom Class for surface warfare.

i’m on an LCS !!! and you’re at my base can’t believe i missed it
I used to operate those heavy haul trailers under the LCS coming out of austals hangar. We would go about twice a year and move the ships out onto a barge then across the bay to a dry dock. Its unreal seeing them in person.
