The party consisted of Lt. Gen. {sic} Erich Brandenberger, C.G., 19th Army, and Counselar {sic "Councillor"} Lohrman, German Foreign Office, 19th Army. Territory included in the surrender is the provinces of Tyrol, Boralberg {sic "Vorarlberg"}, Allgaeu, to the Italian frontier, This takes in all enemy troops facing the VI Corps. Lt. Gen. This is the Surrender of the German 19th Army to the U.S VI Corps whose C.O was General Theodore Brooks under the U.S 7th Army and U.S 6th Army Group in May 1945, Daniel Kneeland, Grafton, Ma.
Drem aerodrome was the place where Air Marshal Sir Robert Victor Goddard reckoned while flying he had time-travelled- this was in 1935. He had visited the abandoned aerodrome and later on his flight back he reckoned that he flew over it again and it was active- with new planes- trainers painted yellow of a type he had never seen- and that yellow was not used in 1935- but was a few years later when the aerodrome had been reactivated. Likewise the planes were the Miles Magister which first flew in 1937. He had a number of very strange experiences- like at Cranwell with the supposed face of a dead mechanic- Freddie Jackson who had just been killed appearing in a group shot on the day of his funeral parade. That picture can be found on the internet.

A German General or high ranking Officer would be very disciplined and have a lot of pride....and courage. Why would they act any other way than dignified, especially in front of the allies. Act like a gentleman, show no fear to your enemy and move on.

I guess that was later in the clip, German delegates arrive in Luneberg airfield which was in British hand to meet General Montereny in Luneberg health to arrange surrender of German forces in north Germany, Denmark, Norway and not least our own Channel Islands. The early clip is that of the Germans arriving at Innsbruck in Austria to arrange surrender of the area.

I am of direct descent of the leader of the 19th panzer division, Otto von knobelsdorff. My name is Caleb knobelsdorff. Never thought the division was so widely known, i had always heard about him growing up and how ashamed my family was about it.
It was an era in time.....many people were caught up in it, especially young men who should have been in school.....not fighting and giving their life in a war. Sounds like your relative survived the war, hopefully they lived in peace afterward.

There were no sounds recorded with it. The cameramen rarely had sound recording equipment with them. If you ever see any of this footage with narration or ambient sounds, they were invariably added by film editors after the fact.

I was stationed near lüneburg for 7 years. Used to frequent the place every weekend in the 90s. There was a little place called pupash or something in the center near bergstrom hotel and "september's" I had a girlfriend from emsen, a village just outside. Happy days!
What is most surprising is how the German lost air superiority. I think that has to fall on Hitler for the battle of britain. But further errors must have played a part.Once the German lost that they were likely to be defeated.

Also, new pilots received training at their units. Germany faced shortages of pretty much everything. Their only hope was a rapid victory, and early victories fueled overconfidence. There was no hope for them in a sustained war against countries like the US and Russia. I don't think they could have won realistically. My dad, who was a child in Germany at the time, often said the US could have just dropped ball bearings on Germany and still won.

I find it interesting that the British were refueling one of the Junkers and putting blankets on the cowlings for the engines for storage why were they refueling the German plane what were they going to do with it . So many of these got cut up and scrapped such a shame that plane would be worth millions today
A lot of them were reused for a time: the British airline B.E.A. used ex-Luftwaffe Ju-52s in 1947 on its London-Belfast service. The preserved Lufthansa Junkers "D-CDLH" (painted as the pre-war "D-AQUI") is made up largely of components from ex-Luftwaffe Ju-52s. Most still-airworthy "Ju-52s" are really Spanish-built copies made after the war.

They're worth a small fortune today if it's original....documented origin with witness signatures confirming who it belonged to. Anything belonging to Hermann Goering or any other high-ranking German Officer, especially one who was executed, is going to fetch a lot of money. There are lots of WWII collectors out there who will buy anything that's WWII....regardless of who owned it. I think it's sick, but it's part of history. I loved the TV Show from the 60s, "Rat Patrol", and I purchased a small replica of their WWII Jeep with the mounted machine gun. It looks awesome in my curio cabinet next to my GI Joe dolls.

Some specifications: Erich Brandenberger was a general of tank force at that time. At 7:02 you see General Kinzel who indeed signed the surrender to Montgomery in Luneburg heath at may 6th 1945.

This and other similar videos show the Americans taking their prisoners very respectfully. The Germans simply surrender their weapons and are led away. They're not beaten up, they don't take rifle butts to the face.
Many Germans willingly surrendered to the western allies because of their fear of soviet captivity. Many axis pows perished in Stalin’s gulags and the NKVD were well known for their brutality. Still the Red army played a huge contribution by taking on the majority of the axis armed forces and far outnumbered the western allies.
Sound recording equipment was bulky and not very mobile, and required electricity. That's why there's a lot more film footage than sound from this era, whether American, German, British, or Soviet.

There are lots of WWII collectors out there who will buy anything that's WWII....regardless of who owned it. I think it's sick, but it's part of history. I loved the TV Show from the 60s, "Rat Patrol", and I purchased a small replica of their WWII Jeep with the mounted machine gun. It looks awesome in my curio cabinet next to my GI Joe dolls.

This and other similar videos show the Americans taking their prisoners very respectfully. The Germans simply surrender their weapons and are led away. They're not beaten up, they don't take rifle butts to the face.

Many Germans willingly surrendered to the western allies because of their fear of soviet captivity. Many axis pows perished in Stalin’s gulags and the NKVD were well known for their brutality. Still the Red army played a huge contribution by taking on the majority of the axis armed forces and far outnumbered the western allies.
