I first discovered Gary Moore right in the middle of his career with Victims of the Future so this era will always be my Gary Moore, he really had an impact on me and my playing, his fierce attack was shocking, I was even more shocked when years later I learned that he is left handed. I really loved his singing voice as well on the rock albums (Wild Frontier is my favorite)! I have to say when Gary decided he was just going to be a straight up bluesman and turned his back on rock I was devastated! Low and behold, right before his death he was planning a return to rock with a new album and the little we get to hear of it on the last Montreux performance "Days of Heroes" is glorious! I will come back to this great video again and again Euge I'm sure. Many thanks for giving Gary his due!!

Gary Moore was a huge influence for sure he had great style with licks that were technical as opposed to just "tricks". His blues playing was great as well but when I heard Victims of the Future I was hooked. Great playing and showcasing of some of his techniques. Gary had some great vocals as well. 👍🤘
Just wow! I'm sitting watching this as I saw Thin Lizzy Gary/Phil at "monsters of rock 84" in Germany. The "End of the world" intro was an OMG moment in my life because no one played like that! Live at Montreux Jazz Festival he did that open string in the lead riff of "Empty Rooms" after the bass walks down. Perhaps one of his best arsenal of tricks using open strings to climb the scale progression. He had huge hands and a different way of fretting normally index and middle finger to cover 3 frets. Thanks for covering Gary Moore and the great playing tips Euge! Excellent channel!
There are many great shredders and many great blues players, but only few guitarists that can play both styles. Gary Moore was one of these rare players, he could melt your face off the one moment and then go up on a stage with BB King & play some tasty traditional blues. Another thing that is unique about Gary: he used throughout his career many different types of guitars from all kinds of brands, even though most people associate him mostly with the 59 LP and you could always recognise him from his distinctive tone, not matter what guitar he was playing at the time. Among other brands, he was one of the first famous players using PRS Guitars in the late 80´s and all kinds of superstrat models from various manufacturers (Charvel,Jackson, ESP, Hamer, Ibanez )
Indeed 🙏💪. The sound is in the hands. I’ve used so many amps, guitars, pedals etc. on albums & tours and I always sound like myself so at the end of the day the gear really doesn’t matter that much but just the way one plays & sounds 👌.

I have known about Gary Moore for years, but he wasn't really on my radar until I found out he was a big influence for Miyako Watanabe from LOVEBITES. Miyako is so amazing, I had to check out her background very closely. Her influences are strong, which is why she is who she is today. So... I am a fan of Gary through princess Miyako! And now I see YOU are also a long-time fan of Gary! So now the circle of life is complete! Hehehe! I am not surprised, all great musicians have great influences. It is what keeps the spirit of true music alive from generation to generation. I will try to post a link of Miyako playing "The Loner" on her piano. I heard about that. Ozzy really wanted Gary. It would have been amazing, but it never happened. I just wish we had more years with Randy. Randy gave us a lot, in his short time here. But we always wish to have more.
I really was thinking about that and I think thats great that he said no. You can actually find interviews Gary talking about drugs and etc. How did he ran away in the middle of tour with Thin Lizzy because of use of drugs. Also remember how stupid Randy died. I think about Gary as a good exaple how you should look at the drugs and how much you have to focus to your goal with sober mind.

Indeed 👌. I have ISP Decimator, Boss NS-2 and Fortin Zuul on separate boards and they all do the job. So one of those. If I had to pick one then probably the Fortin ’cos of its key input.
@@EugeValovirta230V The Boss TU-2/3 I plan on getting would work well for the "key" input of the Fortin Zuul Mini, which is one of the ones I am looking at. I am also looking at the MXR Smart Gate + MXR Noise Clamp, and ISP Decimator. If I got the MXR Smart Gate and Noise Clamp, I'd use one after the tuner, at the front of my signal, and then one after my "amp," which is a Tech 21 British. Meanwhile, the Zuul Mini could be used after the British pedal, with a cable from the tuner to the "key" input. The G string version of the Decimator could do the same thing, but would be a bit messier cable wise. Anyways, thanks for the replies. I appreciate it greatly, Euge.
Yeah that’s exactly what I’m doing on my Cyhra live board with the tuner & Zuul key input 👌. Works like a charm, is dead quiet and doesn’t ”cut” the signal no matter how much or little there’s gain etc.
Euge what gary did in the 80s completely blows my mind, the 90s blues stuff he did bored me senseless. For blues on steroids nobody did it like Jeff Healey for me. Gary and Jeff are such a loss to music, god bless them both and I am sure they are jamming with Rory Gallagher up there.

When I was a kid just learning how to play these guys at this music store told my mom that kid sounds like George lynch I didn’t know who that was so he told my mom take him to the record store right now and he has to get victims of the future , I was like who? But there was only RUN FOR COVER and I heard Glen Hughes and Gary for the first time ..... yes a Van Halen moment. My Van Halen style wish just turned Upside Down and I never looked back.

I have read in an old guitar world interview that Gary used a lot his vintage fiesta red Strat during early 80’s. On the album « victims of future » a lot..
What a great sound!! Gary Moore is my biggest influence since i started playing, for about 25 years now 😁 i was fortunate to see him live in 1997 here in Sweden, he played so loud that the place almost exploded! And one of my buddies had to go and puke because of the pressure 🤣🤣 you think the 1987x is too bright or can it be tamed?

@@EugeValovirta230V At one point, his pedal of choice was a Marshall Guvnor (the 80s version, not the later "II" version) into a Marshall. Seems sort of redundant, but my guess is that he liked the EQ, and the fact it wasn't coloring his amp tone drastically.
Brilliant, I am fairly new to electric guitar and my dream is to play Pris walkways and the loner by Gary Moore. I only play at home so volume can't be silly, I brought a modern eipiphone Les Paul classic and boss katana MK2 50 but struggling with a tone a really like. Any ideas on how to get the tone on a budget, is my gear ok or should gone for small Marshall tube amp. Many thanks
The sound comes mostly from the hands. A good player will sound good no matter the gear and a bad player will sound bad no matter the gear. My advice: practise. A lot. I started to sound fairly good after several years of hard practise so it’ll take time. If this would be easy there would a lot more great (sounding) players around 😎.
Cool! The audio interface is for recording but in a live situation a sound guy would just mic the cab and make sure that the audience will hear it properly from the PA along with the rest of the band 👌😎. Or a reactive load / IR loader could replace the cab and then it would be cable from that to the mixer / PA.
It looks like Gary Moore is very influenced by Randy rhoads using those chord arpeggio licks and patterns. What is so special about Gary Moore plexi amp settings ? Because you used post chorus detunet in cubase software to get those Gary Moore 80s album tones?
I believe it was the other way around since Gary’s recording / touring / professional career started in the late 60s with Skid Row and then with Thin Lizzy etc. I have no idea about his settings. I just cranked the Plexi like I always do 😎.👌 I use the same post dly, pitch, rev on almost everything so nothing special about that either 😁.
@@EugeValovirta230V yes I have listened to skid row and thin Lizzy plus his solo albums and Gary Moore wasn't playing those licks and arpeggios like he was in his 80s album I think he was major influenced by Randy rhoads. Make a video part#2 showing a bunch of Gary Moore's 89s albums arpeggios and chord pattern licks because that is what Randy rhoads was doing
It’s the other way around. Randy was very influenced by Gary’s playing when he saw him with G-force. Gary is playing those 4 note arpeggio licks on “White Knuckles” in 1979 G-force album. That’s where Randy got it from. Ozzy originally wanted Gary as his first choice guitarist but Gary declined because he had just left Thin Lizzy because they were less sober then they should be on stage and he told ozzy he couldn’t go back to a situation like that... Gary was all about the music. Both great players no doubt, But a lot of people don’t realise Gary is an original and inspired a lot of famous players in the 80’s. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for that.
@@1994renny But Blizzard of Ozz the band was touring in Europe 1979 at the same time G-Force was touring and the album of G force was 1980 same time as Blizzard of Ozz album
@@waynegram8907 G-Force album came out late 1979. Plus Gary was using licks like that in Colosseum II. Randy Rhoads took inspiration from Gary Moore as many others did, Vivian Campbell, John Sykes, John Norum, Kirk Hammet, Doug Aldrich to name a few.

Meanwhile, the Zuul Mini could be used after the British pedal, with a cable from the tuner to the "key" input. The G string version of the Decimator could do the same thing, but would be a bit messier cable wise.

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m doing on my Cyhra live board with the tuner & Zuul key input 👌. Works like a charm, is dead quiet and doesn’t ”cut” the signal no matter how much or little there’s gain etc.

Euge what gary did in the 80s completely blows my mind, the 90s blues stuff he did bored me senseless. For blues on steroids nobody did it like Jeff Healey for me. Gary and Jeff are such a loss to music, god bless them both and I am sure they are jamming with Rory Gallagher up there.

When I was a kid just learning how to play these guys at this music store told my mom that kid sounds like George lynch I didn’t know who that was so he told my mom take him to the record store right now and he has to get victims of the future , I was like who? But there was only RUN FOR COVER and I heard Glen Hughes and Gary for the first time ..... yes a Van Halen moment. My Van Halen style wish just turned Upside Down and I never looked back.

I have read in an old guitar world interview that Gary used a lot his vintage fiesta red Strat during early 80’s. On the album « victims of future » a lot..
What a great sound!! Gary Moore is my biggest influence since i started playing, for about 25 years now 😁 i was fortunate to see him live in 1997 here in Sweden, he played so loud that the place almost exploded! And one of my buddies had to go and puke because of the pressure 🤣🤣 you think the 1987x is too bright or can it be tamed?

You know the amp has knobs to tweak the sound for one’s liking 😊. But seriously I know what you mean. I don’t find it too bright at all but on the other hand I like kinda bright & aggressive in your face sound and for that Plexi is just 👌.

It takes them well. I just released a video about Gary Moore and used the 1987x and boosted it with a TS-10.

@@EugeValovirta230V At one point, his pedal of choice was a Marshall Guvnor (the 80s version, not the later "II" version) into a Marshall. Seems sort of redundant, but my guess is that he liked the EQ, and the fact it wasn't coloring his amp tone drastically.
His single coil sound was the best. I wonder what guitar and amp he used for Murder In The Sky.

Brilliant, I am fairly new to electric guitar and my dream is to play Pris walkways and the loner by Gary Moore.
I only play at home so volume can't be silly, I brought a modern eipiphone Les Paul classic and boss katana MK2 50 but struggling with a tone a really like. Any ideas on how to get the tone on a budget, is my gear ok or should gone for small Marshall tube amp. Many thanks
The sound comes mostly from the hands. A good player will sound good no matter the gear and a bad player will sound bad no matter the gear. My advice: practise. A lot. I started to sound fairly good after several years of hard practise so it’ll take time. If this would be easy there would a lot more great (sounding) players around 😎.

Euge, I Have a Great 50 Wtt . Marshall Plexi, If I were to attempt to copy this Rig for Live use, Would I run the Audio Interface into my Cabinet?

The audio interface is for recording but in a live situation a sound guy would just mic the cab and make sure that the audience will hear it properly from the PA along with the rest of the band 👌😎.
Or a reactive load / IR loader could replace the cab and then it would be cable from that to the mixer / PA.

It looks like Gary Moore is very influenced by Randy rhoads using those chord arpeggio licks and patterns. What is so special about Gary Moore plexi amp settings ? Because you used post chorus detunet in cubase software to get those Gary Moore 80s album tones?
I believe it was the other way around since Gary’s recording / touring / professional career started in the late 60s with Skid Row and then with Thin Lizzy etc.
I have no idea about his settings. I just cranked the Plexi like I always do 😎.👌
I use the same post dly, pitch, rev on almost everything so nothing special about that either 😁.
@@EugeValovirta230V yes I have listened to skid row and thin Lizzy plus his solo albums and Gary Moore wasn't playing those licks and arpeggios like he was in his 80s album I think he was major influenced by Randy rhoads. Make a video part#2 showing a bunch of Gary Moore's 89s albums arpeggios and chord pattern licks because that is what Randy rhoads was doing
It’s the other way around. Randy was very influenced by Gary’s playing when he saw him with G-force. Gary is playing those 4 note arpeggio licks on “White Knuckles” in 1979 G-force album. That’s where Randy got it from. Ozzy originally wanted Gary as his first choice guitarist but Gary declined because he had just left Thin Lizzy because they were less sober then they should be on stage and he told ozzy he couldn’t go back to a situation like that... Gary was all about the music. Both great players no doubt, But a lot of people don’t realise Gary is an original and inspired a lot of famous players in the 80’s. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for that.

@@waynegram8907 G-Force album came out late 1979. Plus Gary was using licks like that in Colosseum II. Randy Rhoads took inspiration from Gary Moore as many others did, Vivian Campbell, John Sykes, John Norum, Kirk Hammet, Doug Aldrich to name a few.
