How to mix: Practice. Record. Listen. Also listen in the car and stuff. Some things sound ok on headphones and then sound totally different in the car/on speakers. Don't rely on digital crutches. Things don't always go as planned. If you have practice with beat matching, don't need waveforms to recognize the structure of a track, know how to tell if tracks are the same BPM and can correct and don't need a set playlist to perform well...you'll avoid tons of trainwrecks. Also I see everybody asking about key signatures here. No, every track doesn't need to be in the same key. Wanna know if two tracks go together? Put them together. If it sounds good, then they work! If it sounds bad, then don't mix them! Pretty simple :P
This dude was the number 1 DJ in the world for several years running. Despite what the DJMag ranks say, many believe he is still the number 1 DJ in the world.
dutch and english have exactly the same talking rythm thats why the dutch are sooooo good at english, and sound so natural at it. If we wanted the english could also kick arse at dutch but we suck at learning languages :P
Of course he IS the number one DJ in the world. It's not about how pop you can sound (like David Guetta actually does) but how classy and uplifiting your music can be. That's why Armin van Buuren is the true number one.
i damaged my hearing first concert i ever went to and it was an armin van buuren concert. All i hear all day is a ringing sounds. Now i have to produce music all day or else i will hear the ringing and i go crazy
@ComandoLee1000 i am just starting to DJ also. ive been researching it for around 6-8 months though. i just upgraded to a macbook pro and i will be running traktor pro 2 software after i buy a traktor kontrol s2 controller which runs around $400. the macbook iu have is a 13 inch with i7 processor. it was around $1200. i am also going to invest in some dj monitors which are speakers i can use at home which are great. i am getting 2 krk rokit 5's for $180.
it means the key tone of a song, different mixing programs lets you know how fast a song is by measuing the BPM but also lets you know what key tone a song is, by analizing the beats of the song, using same key tone songs, sounds veryy similar, so similar that mixing between songs which has the same key be very easy, and you can jump between them over and over and the beat will sound very similar.
@ComandoLee1000 and yeah i agree with Nj9290's comment. Don't buy the CDJs unless you have money. they are pretty pricey since you need to buy 2 CDJs and a mixer to put them together. if you have any questions you can add me on youtube and we can chat
the first track is in F sharp, the second one is in G but plays at 138. by slowing it down to 130 bpm ,the key G becomes F sharp. so both tracks are in Fsharp when he mixes them together .its known as mixing in key, mixing in harmony is also good, rather than mixing clashing keys
@ComandoLee1000 it honestly and truly depends, if you have a budget, and can only spend so much, then i would say a dj usb controller that runs on programs of computer. (especially if you just started djing aswell, is really helpful and will learn alot from it), or if you have the money and can afford pioneer cdj's and model. id say go for it
it changes half a note (f #) not f which would be a full note,i watched others do it by using a piano to find the "home" note after pitching up or down vinyl and it works out the home note changes half note every 8% approx ,best to mix using pitch lock and keep things in harmony, use your ears and dont try mixing tracks that are too far off bpm range
AMAZING tutorial video(s) for sure! he's a total pro - I would never even consider trying to cue up my next song without headphones, how impressive! plus he's wa-a-a-a-ay cute *rowrl*
@ComandoLee1000 i am just telling you my costs so you have an idea of what someone who is starting is going to spend. the macbook isnt necessary, but macs are known for not catching viruses like PCs or crashing either. i paid the extra money for the macbook for having a secure operating system. for djing at friends party's, i use beats by dre tour earphones (not the over the head ones but earbuds) which work great.
This is my dj set, my mix and recorded thanks to the tutorial and teachings of Armin van Buuren. Listen to it if you like! This is trance music. Here the link to listen: www.mixcloud.com/giolaserdj/trance-project-2014_selected-by-kokkina-47-mixed-by-giolaser/

LOL yeah I always thought wow he's a lot better sounding like Tiesto. I remember in his ISOS: Asia there are these pan-flutes that come in and he's like "aaand... de floots!" I was like LOL
@Nj9290 Can you tell me what should I use to start, an average eq.. and how much would it cost.. Cuz I am still young. I am still under age, and I would like to start DJing now, so I can improve when i grow up..Thanks
After seeing AVB in real life after being a fan for so long all i can say is... I would watch a fucking reality show where he hosts or judges and picks The Next Trance Star LOL.
I always wanted to be DJ .. but the truth is I never had the oppretunity (sorry if I spelled it wrong) to work on a deck.. Mostly because I always worried " What if I buy deck.. and all the stuff and then I see that I really suck..". If anyone can help me with this, I would appreciate it (I meant to give me advice how can I know if I suck and if I am good), Thanks
i got a Question too.... in what programm is the best for making the Cue points and stuff? ? and, for the 130 - and 139 how does he make the transition without the velocity being noticed?
How to mix:
Practice. Record. Listen. Also listen in the car and stuff. Some things sound ok on headphones and then sound totally different in the car/on speakers.

Key == The Key Signature of the song. It's Music Theory, all songs have a key, i.e. the notes that are played in the track...
Really makes me want to go in debt for some equipment... I have Numark Mixtrack and a 2 year old laptop lol
Really cool tutorial, thanks for the up. Learnt a few lil things that can help my set

@evrep47 he takes to 139 down to 130 which changes the key as well (g to f).

That is te key, it is necesarry for Harmonic mixing.
Use harmonic mixing to create better mixes.
Search for the camelot dj wheel

After seeing AVB in real life after being a fan for so long all i can say is... I would watch a fucking reality show where he hosts or judges and picks The Next Trance Star LOL.
No. He was just using CD's, so Serato isn't needed.
@SaulOrosJr nope
@Nj9290 Thanks for your help, I don't actually have big budget, but can you tell me how much would it cost approx.?
What is the KEY? HE talks about it a lot.
Keep it down. Haters gonna hate, no matter what facts you come up with :-)
so hold on did he lower the tempo of the second song to mix it into the first ?
What does he mean by using the filters wisely and that colors are very sensitive?
what does he mean the filter makes a big impact on the system? just the sound?
I always wanted to be DJ .. but the truth is I never had the oppretunity (sorry if I spelled it wrong) to work on a deck.. Somebody tell what is the name of this song D: please!
