Not gonna lie: I was moved ny your presentation. My goal is to become so financially successful that I can afford a Cooke anamorphic zoom lens for my movie about people who were impoverished but overcame all odds to become financially successful regardless of their race, religion, gender, or origin. Cooke anamorphic zooms are what takes no budget filmmaking to compelling, life-changing, cinema!
Hi Frank. Thanks for your comments. Instead of buying these lenses, you could just hire them. And if you are based in England then you can talk to us about that 😊 . We hope you can get your film made one day. Good uck
Wish there were digital camera sensors which shot in an ultra tall aspect ratio specifically for anamorphic stretching. That way, you could get the 2:39:1 ratio without cropping the majority of the image and degrading the image quality.
Well done. FWIW, arguably the most respected and honored D.O.P./cinematographer for feature films active today is Roger Deakins, and he is not a fan of anamorphic lenses. He states he has tested them exhaustively and came to conclusion there are too many negatives, so he much prefers to shoot spherical because for him spherical lenses give a better artistic look. His films as D.O.P. include No Country For Old Men, O Brother Where Art Thou,? SkyFall, Fargo, Shawshank Redemption, etc. Deakins did say that the Coen brothers wanted him to shoot a future film in anamorphic because of the look they were after, but the project fell through. On the other hand I'm sure there are directors and cinematographers who much prefer to shoot anamorphic. The anamorphic video short above was gorgeous, so simply a matter of artistic preference.
pete49327 So, what are you trying to say? I'm sure anyone watching this already knows who Deakins is and what he shot. There are few things that frustrate me more than people blindly following an opinion because someone with a reputation said so. If a director ever says: "I want you to shoot spherical because **insert guy who's pretty good* * says that's the best option", I would get out of there as fast as possible.
very good explanation even though i have not really understood deeply everything. but i get the basic tips like larger sensors are better for the anamorphic lenses
Well don't go to fast here, or you'll make a mistake. It's the record ratio capabilities of the sensor that matters in the first place. If you have a FF sensor restricted to 16/9 record format like a Sony AIII, then to get that standard 2,39:1 ratio with a X2 anamorphic, you'll lose a lot field & definition. So be sure the camera gives you a 4/3 record format in the first place. Now you can use a smaller X1.5 anamorphic with a 16/9 record format, but effects will be less dramatic.
Really beautiful footage. Thanks for the comprehensive explanation.
Thank you so much. Its really helps me in my works.
Very nice. I haven't used these or the Masters yet
yeah cause we all broke

Awesome work. Thanks for the test.
Amazing video!
I prefer Panavision C series Anamorphics, but you can’t ever buy Panavision, so if I had the money I’d buy The whole Cooke Anamorphic/i line.

GH5 with firmware 2.0 will shoot 5K anamorphic 4:3
Nice cinema, music loop became an ear pencil.
So you get the most out of these lenses on a FF rather than super 35?
I love it!! Great job!

Tryst Films rentals.
you have $3,000?
yeah you do for rentals when you are shooting a film i.e. large(r) scale production...not a youtube video
If I have a PL mount on my Sony a6400 can I use cooke lens?
Yes
Well explained!
Woow lovely pictures. Someone knows the background music starting at around 03:15?
Did you find the music? I was also looking for the same. :)
How can one compete with those that shoot in poirtrait. My TV goes side to side. Just look at morning TV. WTF.

These lenses must be very cheap to buy then !
