When I see who he is now and how he carries himself, inside AND outside the ring, it makes me proud of the fact that he was always my favorite wrestler as a kid watching WCW.
I compare to the fact that I was a Prince fan when all the other kids my age loved Michael Jackson. Knowing what I know now, I am SOOOOO glad I was a Prince fan. I'm actually an even bigger Prince fan now. Back then, everybody thought HE was a weirdo.
Back on point though, Sting was always a great wrestler AND human being. He may have done some partying in his younger days but, he was always a good person. Super humble, would sign autographs for EVERYONE at events. One thing people don't realize is how big he is. You always see him in the ring with other big dudes but, he is a large man

Did a WWE commercial with him years back and he was super cool and nice to everyone there - so behind the scenes he is just as classy as he is in front of the camera.
At that time he was injured so I asked him if he was going to wrestle again.
He said “ Well you know there’s one match I would definitely come back for.
And everyone knows what that is. Hopefully we could get it done.”
    ….
It’s definitely a shame we never got to see that Taker -Sting showdown,
but to see him just thrive like this now here at AEW at his age going against kids half his age is just absolutely inspiring.
And yep, even now - at age 62(!!!) ..
    he can still GO!!

i left a heart felt post in one of those old forums one time that Sting was lurking around, i forget what my username was, it's not important. I'm not looking for glorification or anything. That's why i love Sting/Steve so much. He's just a genuine guy, but to be that incredible and be so genuine is a rare thing. He also sees that in others, so he's not bathing in his own prowess, he's just sharing it with his fans. He's embracing it. I love the guy, i really do.

I love Sting’s response to the last question (regarding his response to pessimism about his abilities in the ring) because it is so on point. Sting has been one of the pillars of Professional wrestling for a long time because of his tenure, resume, attitude, respect, and just who he is as a person.
Wrestling fans (even causal ones) gravitate towards wrestlers/people like this and just embrace them/admire them. So even when (and sting even talks about it in the interview) their best days are behind them and everyone knows it, you won’t hear anyone say anything rude or disrespectful. If someone does, then you will 10-20 people quickly correct/disagree with that person because 1) Sting is wrestling better at 62 than a lot of other wrestlers who are 42 and 2) Everyone has so much respect/admiration for him that any lost in his step is hardly acknowledged.

So, WCW was dead for half a decade before i started watching wrestling
And Sting was a name i head *very early* (mostly in chatter about how Sting vs Taker at Mania would be the stuff of legends.... literally). But i never visited his career. WCW was dead, TNA was not on TV where i lived and the internet was a vastly diffrent place. Oh... and i was a kid. So TV shows that already happened kinda got counted as "forever gone".
But i was a fan the very moment he stepped through the WWE door (even after being booked weird AND poorly). Some guys just have an aura, a presence about themselves, they capture you no matter how they are used. Since then hes easily in my top 3 of pro wrestlers.

His face paint looks awesome as he is sitting there calming talking. He looks like he was just in a war, and now he’s talking to these people answering questions immediately after. Painting dripping, love the red/black/white combo.

@Aaron9 Knowing he doent have long left and the work he has put in since joining AEW, AEW needs to put the title on him sooner than later. He should be the man to beat Hangman.

    • @mazsax999
      @mazsax999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@TheCOMICCOMMANDER No, I love Sting & all of his legacy & accomplishments. But the World title is for a champion prepared to wrestle in big time full contact matches. Sting said himself in this very video he's not looking to do 20 min matches w/ young guys. It would be disrespectful to all the guys physically able to carry that title, and disrespectful to the performer Sting was most of his career.
Him passing the "mysterious goth" torch to Darby & honoring us with his ability to still occasionally go is the best course of action for him.
