  • As before, Porsche’s new 718 Boxster initially comes in only two versions: the 300-horsepower base model and the 350-horsepower S. Either can be had with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch (PDK) automatic transmission.
Fifty horsepower is no pittance, but the difference between the base and S-model 718 Boxsters is nothing relative to the vast chasm that separates them, experientially, from their predecessors. The 718’s turbocharged flat-four powerplants, displacing 2.0 and 2.5 liters, respectively, are the headlining changes. Both yield 35 more horsepower than the 2.7- and 3.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-sixes they replace. Torque is the big story, however, increasing by 74 lb-ft on the base car and 43 lb-ft on the S.
    BASE PRICE:
    718 Boxster, $57,050; 718 Boxster S, $69,450
    ENGINE TYPES:
    turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 2.0-liter flat-4, 300 hp, 280 lb-ft; turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 2.5-liter flat-4, 350 hp, 309 lb-ft
    TRANSMISSIONS:
6-speed manual, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with manual shifting mode
    DIMENSIONS:
    Wheelbase: 97.4 in
    Length: 172.4 in
Width: 70.9 in Height: 50.4 in
Curb weight (C/D est): 2950-3100 lb
    PERFORMANCE (C/D EST):
Zero to 60 mph: 3.9-4.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 9.4-11.2 sec
    Standing ¼-mile: 12.4-13.4 sec
    Top speed: 170-177 mph
    FUEL ECONOMY (C/D EST):
    EPA city/highway driving: 21-23/32-34 mpg

The 2L 4-cyl turbo is easily (and cheaply) ECU'ed to 350hp, more so than the flat-6.

Imagine if they had turbocharged the 3.4. When it's all about fuel consumption that tells me compromise. Interesting that we don't see Ferrari or Lamborghini lopping cylinders from their engine range.

2112 Bangkok compromise encompasses everything within engine engineering

This would increase price and possibly cannibalize 911 sales. This is faster than the 3.4 ever was, so I don't know why anyone is complaining.

You’d be wrong then. Fiat took a Ferrari California T’s V8 and lopped off two cylinders to make the 2.9L V6 TT in the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

turbo engine suck cost more money to maintain also they wont last long. require 3000 - 5000 oil change to make it last 50,000-100,000 miles

Load of crap misinformation. My 718 Cayman S hasn’t required any more maintenance than any other vehicle I’ve owned and they last way longer than 100k miles. This isn’t the 1970s 🙄

I agree, Prego. The 718 and your generation Cayman are not the same. The 718 is mechanically superior and faster.
