Now, seriously, I can see where Shinri is coming from: making good jokes, specially of the edgy type, requires certain level of talent, theory and practice, so your sense of humor is effective to make people laugh, and avoid any misunderstandings that could get out of hand; from joking with your friends to produce the desired reaction from your audience, making good comedy is an art on itself
I think that, perhaps is best for Shinri to find a style of comedy that suits his personality and the usual tone of his content
I mean, the types of jokes that Bettel does are very different from the jokes Axel does; the same could be said from the rest of the Tempus Guild, as well as the Myth, Promise and Advent talents
Each one of them has their own sense of humor, that serves as a small introduction of the type of content people can expect from them in general

Deadpan comedians are the best. There's something to someone being utterly nonchalant about the most crude topics and it's Fkng hilarious. A perfect example, Raymond from the movie Rainman. Dustin Hoffman had to say the most hilarious shit throughout the entire movie with an absolutely bold/straight face, and I guarantee it wasn't easy to not crack out in laughter every 5 minutes. I love deadpan comedy.
Edgy deadpan is difficult to pull off though, especially coming from a buff older "serious" type like Shinri. Unlike Mumei he can't rely on the contrast of "cute girl says deranged things", I can see how he feels the pressure to pick his words.
@@telefrag. That's really accurate. He has no visual-to-spoken-words contrast like Mumei, in fact it's the opposite. If anything Shinri is in the reverse situation, more like Mori's.

It's really interesting to see how the term 'seiso' was imported and then evolved within English-speaking spheres because I see a lot people equate it to purity/ level of 'adult' knowledge/not having two sides/etc when that wasn't always the case per definition. At this point, the word is it's own beast so I get what Shinri's saying but either way you'd never catch me describing diknbawls Axel as seiso out of all things.

I feel like these days is both used to describe what someone does, and what the person is at heart. Aniki is pretty seiso at heart but he says the most unseiso stuff. Not consistent at all, indeed.
@@franks777_KFP yeah I think shinri sees it more as "he is seiso at heart" or like, has a pure heart. He might speak crudely but he's a pretty wholesome person. I mean, they all are good people but it's true that Axel is kinda a softie, which is also his gap moe low key haha. So idk, I guess it depends on which aspect of a person you wanna describe. Not many people are truly seiso all around (and not that it's something that has to be the goal).
Personally I believe Shinri is never seiso but he's the unseiso type who don't just throw swear words here and there, he's quite calculated with that (I don't remember hearing him saying the f word??). I do love his deadpan jokes but yeah in this age everything goes so fast and things can be taken out of context so easily. As much as I'm looking forward to see what kind of rebranding will happen, I do hope it he won't change his comfy and witty side too much 🫶
I’ve been watching his streams for a while, he does do and say some sus stuff but it mostly jest fly’s over my head because his voice is so calming that I can’t help but think of him as Papa Bear.
As someone who's labled as the parent, the mom friend, and big sibling in friend groups, it can be a bit difficult wanting to let loose and make jokes like everyone else. So i understand Shinri wanting to change his brand a bit so there won't be any misunderstandings or misinterpretations on his humor.
Personally, it gets exhausting having to constantly be labeled as the "sensible" or "responsible". Sometimes i wanna make dirty jokes or say clever shit in response to my friends without being looked as if I'm a saint (which im not, lol). People in my circle are always surprised that know about h-anime, ero manga, or anything perverted 😂
I like his deadpan humor and comfy vibe. I hope that any changes he makes are what he truly wants in a sense of personal growth, and not to fit some kind of image. He's cool enough a he is.
The Guild is really doomed if Axel is the most seiso lol. Bettel was marketed as the clown in the reveal trailer and Shinri was the mysterious one so that's why I think it feels that way to people who don't watch him. Debut definitely has a lasting impact on who you are to people who don't watch you unless you have a story arc like Haachama
Debut impressions can easily be changed with clips. For shinri however, not a whole lot of clips are made because a chill stream and attitude don’t tend to make a whole lot of them. Even if someone did make clips of Shrini, it would be harder to click bait because Shinri simply doesn’t do that sort of content. So without an immediate “wow” factor, less people would click on those clips. A sort of 2 fold anti-clip situation.

I have the opportunity (good bc vooods, and bad bc no streams) of finding Shinri on his break, literally two days before his zatsu. And this caught me off guard bc even though I still don't know him that much, I right away thought of him as a funny person and is really enjoyable to watch him. Hope people give him the opportunity and see how fun he is! And hopefully he will feel more comfortable and joke around how he usually does without worrying too much after his break. 💛

Im sorry, shinri. I CANNOT see bettel being unseiso. Maybe when those secrets come to light, but to me, seiso has always been about how one PRESENTS themselves, not how they actually are.

To make a comparison outside of Holo, Alban Knox from Niji supposedly has a REALLY low rice purity score but his streams are largely seiso. I feel like these two are maybe less "unseiso-minded" in that they aren't the first to think of a dirty joke, but like, the potential is still there!

Ooooooh so this is the clip Bettel mentioned yesterday. Yeah I can see why the definition of seiso being so far removed from the Japanese definition as Shinri has used it is so confusing now. I can't tell if he means seiso in the "generally just being/making lewd/pervy content as a whole" or "being fine with talking about sex/adult topics when it naturally comes up". Because if Shinri means adults just discussing adult stuff context on stream, all of Tempus can be seiso af with Shinri being the funniest enabler at times - but individually if he means the original definition it's mostly Axel, then Flayon as a close second {mostly because of the games he chooses to play}, and (as a native Spanish speaker who gets the nuances the majority of JPN & EN clippers struggle/fully don't, bless their hearts) I'd pick Hakka as the top 3 and even then it's not that bad.
Tbh I actually started watching the Tempus boys more because of how tired I was of both corporate & indie EN male vtuber groups applying both definitions to 60%+ of their content because it goes from being tasteful to boring so fast. Doubly when it's over a 2hr stream; I'm not going to judge folks for hustling to make a bag by targeting the delusional and horny simp watchers (I get it, make that bag) but there's a small threshold between horny & horrible that a lot of male vtubers don't realize they've surpassed. From the last 7 months I've been tuning in, the current members of Tempus make up a small subset of corporate vtubers who are self aware to chill tf out and not beat a dead horse (pun intended) but are also so entertaining that if things take a turn for the VOD being at risk, it's not that big of a deal because it's genuinely funny/fun to watch.
It's actually kinda weird to think Bettel could rank higher but it may have to do with the fact Bettel is good at adjusting to any bit/joke or doubling down on being the straight man - how interesting. I wish Shinri the best for figuring out his style of humor (I like daddy goober dry sense of humor, but I know there's nuance the average weeb with daddy issues tuning in won't immediately get) because it does take time and practice. And hopefully Bettel & Shinri talk it out, goosey was flabbergasted & his chat was divided because of how far removed & vaugely vast the non-Japanese interpretation of seiso can be.
For me, i see seiso and unseiso as a category for content nowadays, not how the person making the content is behind the screen, but how they present themselves on stream.
So in general, bettels content is more seiso, and with how axel speaks, i would say he leans towards more unseiso for sure because of the stuff he talks about too, even tho he may seem more seiso in other ways like as a person etc

As an Axelotl, I can agree with Shinri. Flay also said the same thing in other stream about aniki. From the first month of Tempus, Axel seemed like the most seiso to me. It's easy to think not because of the things he says, but my man is very innocent. He is just like this xD

Being a bit deadpan myself I get so annoyed when people call me serious. I'm not that serious, I'm quite silly honestly, its just I don't extremely emphasize every single beat of what I talk about. I think Shinri's really hilarious honestly, but I'm also closer in age to him than what probably is the average viewerbase age of Tempus as a whole, and boy do his stories, way of thinking (especially in solve-the-puzzles games), and jokes have layers that you sometimes need that life experience to fully understand.
and this is why tone indicators are so important esp to nd people (like me) to give more context whether or not a person is being serious or not

One thing id been thinking about since i seen this last night andi think could help with this is, maybe, some *new facial animations* he could toggle when he's joking about/making a joke that he knows he's joking about but people that don't get dry comedy can understand that he's clearly joking then. But as for with 'text to human' style stuff like comments or tweets, it can be hard for some to tell thanks to it only being text, if it was human to human, there would be tone of voice, facial exaggerations and expressions that help the person know 'it's a joke' but i think we all have had someone online take what we said in a serious manner over a joking or, especially, sarcastic which we meant. So i can really relate to his problem here and probably others can too, iif we are sarcastic comedy type people. (im irish, so its in my feckin blood to be jokey and sarcastic but that tends to fall flat a lot when im commenting online and people take my comment as something as serious, because they can't hear my inflections)

during rust 2, he mentioned wanting to take a long break after it was over. however mid season, tempus week is announced IMMEDIATELY proceeding it, and during stream viewers were congratulating him about it. he tried to do a joke of "what?! who was gonna tell me that?!" but folks took him too seriously and it ended up with lots of criticism aimed at the holostars staff for lack of communication, enough to where he had to clarify he was joking on twitter and calm folks down. hence why he probably feels a very strong need to change his humor so as not to cause future miscommunications.

i think maybe it was about he got shock by the TEMPUS week annoucement. someone make it like it seems Shinri doesnt know about it but actually he's just being silly tired dad mode because he PLAN to take a break after the rust week but another event coming up so "welp there's goes my break..."

Honestly, it takes very little effort to know what Shinri's about. Being jokey or unhinged in moderation is just what he does. But getting so many impressions and reactions from folks who barely watch him or watch his more "viral" clips can get annoying. The same can be said for vtubers who do like to be jokey or lewd, but not all the time. They get some weirdos who try to get "comfy" with them and clearly only watched some of their more viral videos which became their *only* impression of the vtubers. Just another social media problem.
That's a good point. People judge easily and unfortunately on the internet that happens based on what they see of you, i.e those viral things, and not by spending time on their streams. Same for Mumei (just as an example) , based on clips people think she's all kind of crazy all the time but mostly she's very sweet, nervous and cute.....but yeah with an interesting way of seeing the world 😅
