  • In this video you will find out how to get the Temporary Import Permit for Mexico for your foreign vehicle. It's very simple and it took us just 25 minutes! We also talk to you about the VISA process and the MUST knows on what to bring to the border office, how to speed up the process and what you'll need to get through the border.
This is an example from when we crossed from the USA into Mexico in December 2022, it was very easy. We recommend you taking the Tecate border.

I wanted to comment on here instead of Eva’s video to make sure you two can see it. I am a 23 year old woman with an older Range Rover, a dog, and a thirst for adventure. When I first saw you and your wife on her channel, soemthing truly struck me about you two. I love how you left what was comfortable to you and went for your dreams. I think you make a beautiful pair, and I love how you respect each others space and thoughts while traveling side by side. It is so refreshing to be able to get inspired by amazing people accomplishing something that I dream of doing one day. I cried yesterday watching Eva’s video when I found out you would be going with her on the trip. Something about seeing you two makes everything better. Please, don’t ever stop documenting your travels with your beautiful Landy and wife. All my love to you both. - Maya, Maryland USA

This is probably obvious but my advice is to purchase (if not already owned) a waterproof type of folder in which to store, in one place, all important documents. If you are paranoid keep copies separately and photo images on your phone/s. It might also be useful if a friend could be sent electronic copies for retrieval in an emergency, such as stolen vehicle and or phone. Cheers 👍🏻🙏🦘

Good info! Just something to add some countries in Central/South America you can't bring a right hand drive vehicle, also I do believe you still need proof the car belongs to you, meaning for US residents we call it a title, so basically you can't be making payments to a bank and you own no money on the vehicle.

Doing this will I have to still pay my registration fee in my country? I was trying to get all the information I could to register my chocolate car in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. The deadline is Dec. 31, 2023. They don't have any appointments available so I'm just checking for other options. My registration has been expired thats why they call them chocolate cars and offer us a way to register our cars in MX.

It is linked to your migration document that you bring to the office to do the TIP. So in our case : 180 days. Which is the time on our visa.

I always buy Mexican auto insurance in the US before crossing into Mexico. There are offices near the border.
Using Tecate as a entry point is an excellent idea. The Tijuana crossing will have thousands of cars, and you have to go through Tijuana, which you should avoid. Traffic scams are common, and a wrong turn can put you in gang territory. That's bad.
I've been traveling in Mexico for 40 years. You have to remember corruption is a national sport in Mexico.
My buddy Tony Marrow was the youngest detective on the TJ police force, and son of the police chief in the mid 80s. He told me that after work, most detectives took their gun and badge, and went out to make some "side money".
After being shot 4 times Tony moved to the US, went through the naturalization process and eventually became an American citizen. He now owns a construction company which contracts to the United States Marine corps to work on cement projects at camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. No one shoots at him any more😜
Parts of Mexico are beautiful, but the ground can be covered with trash and used baby diapers. I have seen trees completely covered in plastic film bags. Be selective.
Mexico can be a very fun place, and once you get away from the border the crime rate drops significantly. You must remember Mexico is not Disneyland.
Always keep your eyes open, don't drink alcohol in public it's illegal and opens you up to harassment by the police which may end up with you losing all of your money. It's happened to me.
I spent an afternoon in the Ensenada city jail for saying "You can't do that" as my friend was arrested for being drunk at Papa's and Beer in Ensenada. Papa's and Beer is a great bar on the beach with open volleyball pits surrounded by plexiglass wind protectors. Fun place, but remember the security people at Papa's and Beer are off duty policeman always looking for a scam, so be cool and don't over drink.
Guadalajara is known in San Diego as Guadalacaca be careful on the mainland.
Once you drive off the ferry, you're in The Hunger Games.

@LadyLucy Oh okay. I'm a weather bird and I follow a lot of van travelers, and I looked at Baja Mexico and California and it is showing low 60s days and 40s night. The only place that is very warm in the United States is south Florida upper 70s and low 80s. Also the Caribbean side of Mexico is in the mid 80s every day.

WOW great job and a wealth of information. People plan ahead and don't risk not having the proper documentations needed to be in Mexico for person and especially for your vehicle. Some agencies and cops target easy foreign prays for a quick payday by catching you off guard. Safe travels.
