Bomberman 64 is a 3D,4 Player,Platform game.I actuallly consider this game to be a 'worth playing',even though it's underated.
*On Adventure Mode,a being called Altair,along with his 3 most trusted minions,has stolen the Omni Cube,it possesses the power to take over the universe.While he has already striken multiple Planets,Altair sets his next target as Planet Bomber. While Altair attacks,Bomberman is concerned of saving his planet and meets a strange being with the name of Sirius.Sirius is willing to help Bomberman so that he can defeat Altair and save his planet...or is he?

Imagine this: The first time I played this game was when I was 8 years old. I went through the entire game except collecting the 100 Gold Cards (I got like 80). When I was in my 2nd year of collegue (I was 22), I manage to get all 100. My shock when I knew Sirius was the bad guy all along was incredible.

If I were to make up a reason for the sake of the plot, it would have been to use all of them to deactivate Altair’s entire base, sector by sector (hence multiple gold cards). Then, Altair’s minions become powerless to interfere, and he and Regulus can’t even escape because the emergency exits are locked, which enables Sirius to attack and take the Omni Cube.
Honestly, Sirius is probably one of my favorite characters that pulled of the "betrayal card", because his design and personality really worked in misleading you to a point where you'd never expect him to completely trick and backstab you all together for his own intentions with Altair who is considerably the lesser evil in this scenario and he used you as a weapon to dominate his rivalry. His dialogue or the rest of the story may not hold up, but his betrayal sure as hell did and still left an impact on me even now.
The only other similar vidya character that has this sort of grudging admiration from me is Darth Traya from star wars KOTOR 2. I believe this is a trope called "true antagonist under your nose the whole time" (something like that)--and yes they almost all invariably, inevitably betray you.
Sirius is similar, though Darth Traya still creeps me the fuck out.
It’s one of the few instances of betrayal that I never, ever anticipated or even considered possible in storytelling or otherwise. Yeah, the narrative of the game is nothing to marvel at but Sirius’s betrayal was actually done really well. He’s absent, never does much of anything except be helpful, and then out of nowhere his palace (something which was never alluded to) becomes accessible after the player gathers all the gold cards which makes their relevance towards the player finally explained upon completing the collection of them. That was pretty cool.

True story(IIRC): the official strategy guide tells you to collect the 100 cards, but it never tells you what happens if you do collect them all!

Have you tried playing the training miniboss fight, the one where Sirius teached you to fight? Just play that after the betrayal. There will be _something_ off.

I was so mad to learn several years later that I never got the real ending. I just randomly was like "what happened to that one cool bomber, Sirius? Wasn't he a good guy?" WRONG. Betrayed after 15+ years! LOL

Because Sirius & Altair were both evil from the start lol Sirius was just the smarter one, getting Bomberman to help out.

To make matters worse, it's revealed Sirius actually trapped THOUSANDS OF ENTIRE GALAXIES in the Omni Cube before the events of the game.
Damn...this makes me really angry, because I was never able to get all these gold cards as a kid. Funny how even when I played this game during my childhood I knew Sirius was up to something, and the "normal" ending always disappointed me...I felt like I was missing out, and I was. I'm still too chicken to try and brave Rainbow Palace though...that stage looks beyond frustrating.
Still, Sirius is an awesome villain, and I want to see how I do against him. Probably the best use of "Light is Not Good" I've seen in a game (yes, I'm a troper :3)
Big Robot Guy with Cheesy Socks Rainbow palace? Frustrating? Stage 1 sucks the most. The miniboss is awesome. Stage 3 is awesome. Sirius Stage... overwhelming. But don't forget the hidden costume parts in this area.
Sypaka Oh nice. Yeah that first stage looks like hell because of all the damn drops and how you have to bounce across lines of your own pumped bombs and stuff. I was never good at that in the game.
But yeah, Stage 3 looks actually pretty fun.

I remember i have this N64 games as my Christmas present gift during 2002 of Christmas as 8 year old kid and I love it while I playing this game.
About Sirius, as 8 year old kid. I thought he was Bomberman's best friend at first.
Around 2009 later during I turn 15 year old teenager, I saw this scene clip on TH-cam that I felt so shocked that Sirius betraying Bomberman for collection 100 gold cards.

He reminds me of Cross from Radiata Stories in that department, as well as Zero for the big bonus boss plot twist, especially since doing that is pretty hard. :p
As for the betrayal thing, I can't remember something that comes close to this at the moment, this is literally one of the top 10 craziest unexpected things for me. XD

I just got to this scene 15 years later of having the game. My mind was blown away. Now I just need a time machine to blow away my mind as a child too. Sirius always made me feel awkward. lol

3:49 It never occurred to me that you can do that, I had thought the only way to hit Altair with a pumped bomb was to toss at him while he does that crossed shockwave attack. I also liked 0:39 where Altair just hit vega with a kicked bomb like he was saying "Stop it."
I always wished for a bomberman's anime adaptation based on this game because bomberman jetters was good but not enough in my opinion. I also look back and think about how awesome would have been if bomberman had been in smash 64, hopefully someday they throw him into the roster.

I still think this is one of the greatest plot twists in N64 history. You're shown Sirius' battle in the intro, and you don't even realize what it is. It just looks neat. Sirius just looks like a cool ally. And then when you see this scene, your jaw is left hanging.

So all this time when i played Bomberman 64 when i was a kid Sirius which i thought he was supposed to be our ally but its revealed that he is the real villain here all this time not Altair not to mention he told all those lies about what happened totally didn't see that coming

Does it work like this: "normal" ending is achieved when you enter (and beat) this stage without the gold cards? And it just goes straight into the "advanced" ending when you DID collect all the cards?

This guy. This is my favorite character in video games. One of the most underused and underrated villains in video game history. He not only had a badass character design but a unique name(before it became popular with Assassin's Creed). He's what inspired me to create my username across multiple forums and websites as you see here since 2000.

Of course setting the bombs to low power prevents Altair from getting hit allowing you time to make and throw a pumbed up bomb. Thank you. I could only do it through sheer luck...again.

Yeah I beat the final boss, but Sirius is the true final boss that I never encountered and he fooled me. For he was just laying low till he get his true power back >.

From someone named BomberMAN, I expected a bit more male-ish voice. Then again why else is Megaman's voice so feminine. Either way I love Shiro's (White Bomber) voice!
In Mega Man 11, and in Mega Man X5-X8(and probably both Legends games), both Mega Men are ACTUALLY Mega Men.
