    Was so excited for this, but the biggest miss for our family is no 7 seat option for the PHEV. Also, the PHEV can't do a panoramic roof and such a lack of variety in interior design colors and materials for a luxury vehicle price tag feels very disappointing. But mostly we could not justify this $82k for one more seat than in our sedan.
    The Grandhighlander Hybrid Max, however, seems like a better option. You don't get the pure electric range, which sucks...(ugh we were SO looking forwaed to that!!)... but you get pretty decent fuel efficiency, the 'fun' items (like panoramic sun roof, more interior design variety (bright [faux?] 'wood' trim) and you save about $20k of your money for something else.....
    The 500H is another interesting option....but on our test drive it felt very bouncy...like the springs are loose....The dealer offered it to us for about $67k.... but it still didnt feel special enough for that much money...not great handing...and our tester was a 6-seater....the wind of excitement was knocked out of us....
    If they can find a way to engineer these upgrades into the vehicle....then we think it would be a knock out....
    I'll keep hoping for Lexus to slam dunk it.... but we had to go elsewhere for the time being....We're very happy with our choice at this time but very disappointed with Lexus.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. We should have a grand Highlander sometime soon so looking forward to see how it compares. Interesting the hybrid did not not handle well for you as that is supposed to have the adaptive dampers and 4 wheel steering. Plus that price offered is really good. But agree the lack of 7 passenger seating is a bummer in the TX plugin. It really is a great vehicle. 80k is a lot of money though so would be nice to be able to get that bench seat and a nice sun roof. Lexus does not offer much in the way of color choices but it’s hard to get that huge exterior and interior to look good in a variety of colors. So I think the ones they did choose work well. Thanks again and happy motoring.

    I am looking for a bigger SUV but I see a lot of positive and also negative comments, I am from NYC, I still don’t see dealer has stock, I would like to do a test drive.😊

      Thanks for watching. The TX is a great product in all variants with lots of room. They are in high demand and Lexus is trickling them out from the factory in Indiana. The Toyota Grand Highlander is identical in size and more readily available. So maybe check those out too. Not as luxurious but still a solid SUV

    404 hp, sub six seconds 0-60, 33 miles of real ev range, and 29mpg overall, space and SUV utility? Is this Lexus’ best product?

    • @cbotten106
      @cbotten106 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lexus' best product is the SC500 but this is a tasty offering in a fairly hot segment that Toyota/Lexus has never really taken seriously. The long wheelbase RX was a poor joke.

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cbotten106 yes. Agree the sc500 is the goat. Thanks for watching!

      The only car that currently shares the drivetrain with the Century SUV. That alone is a bargain imo, despite the utility and the space we get.

    Geared towards large families and doesn't provide a 2nd row bench option? I anticipate this is where they will lose most sales.

      This is where they lost us!😢

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching and agree. A second row bench is very useful especially given how easy the rear seat access is. The rear seat is actually useful but losing 7 passenger capability just because you want a hybrid or plug in is a shame.

    Have you reviewed the grand highlander hybrid max? how does it compare to this. Would be interested in those two specifically. (I dont think 500h is worth premium over the GH max, but the 550 PHEV with the natural aspirated v6 seems like the one to get for the TX)

      Thanks for watching and for the great question. We hope to have a grand Highlander soon for review. Not sure of the engine it will have. The Grand Highlander does share engines with Lexus except for this PHEV. Will be interesting if they ever add it to the Grand Highlander as it is really a great drivetrain. If I was shopping I also would do the 350 or the PHEV and if seriously considering the 350 then I would check out the grand Highlander to see if it will due. The Lexus will handle better and have more sound deadening but engine wise will be exactly the same. The PHEV is very impressive performance wise , range and MPGs. But the 80k price is steep. Keep in touch and we’ll update this comment when we know our grand Highlander schedule.

    One thing I am wondering about is if this has a "room" mode where HVAC works over an extended period of time with the other functions of the car being off. It may make a great camping vehicle with all that cargo space if it did. Also, can the 120V 1500W outlet be used when the car is off, or in a way that it would cycle the gas engine on and off to keep the battery sufficiently charged. If so it would make a great generator to power a backup home window AC etc when the home power is out.

      Great question and comment. Much like a Prius you can just leave this on and override the shutdown timer. So yes, the 1500watts can be accessed in that manner. The engine would come on or off to maintain temperature or keep the voltage on the system up. But to your point a designated camper mode or dog mode with all that in mind would be a nice touch. The 1500 watts would make this a great camping companion. Thanks for watching!

    Too bad they don’t make an affordable base model with a V6 engine.

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The V6 is good but alone it does not have the torque of the 2.4 liter turbo that Toyota is now using as its replacement. Plus fuel economy is down compared to the 4. . But that v6 does sound better and would be cheaper to buy and maintain. And with the electric motor assist it is awesome. Thanks for watching!

    I’d get this simply bc it has the V6!

    What are the self-driving capabilities? Will it go hands-free on the highway?

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching. Lexus TX has basic lane centering and stop and go radar cruise control. Hands free for 15-20 seconds and it will ask you to grab the wheel. It is basic but performs fairly well. Thanks for the question.

    Want the V6. Can skip the plug-in.

    Basically grand highlander with better leather 😂

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for watching. In some ways yes. But the Grand Highlander does not offer this V6 plug in option. Lexus also tunes the chassis to be a little stiffer for better handling and has a load of sound deadening. When you drop to the 350 it has the same engine, with a couple more HP, as the base Grand Highlander so very similar. If you get the hybrid TX it also has the same Grand Highlander hybrid engine with a few more HP but also has four wheel steering and adaptive suspension. But given what these three rows are supposed to do, the Grand Highlander will be a huge hit for Toyota. We will have a Grand Highlander soon for review so will definitely be able to point out the. the subtle differences and whether the extra price of the TX is worth it. Happy motoring.
