Finchale Abbey Touring Park in an ELDDIS Motorhome
This is the FIRST trip in the NEW Elddis Autoquest Limited Edition Motohrome (60th Anniversary) and we were offered the opportunity to test it out for a few days.
We booked a pitch at Finchale Abbey Touring Park near Durham. The Abbey gives a stunning backdrop from your pitch and prices are reasonable. You can spend a few hours exploring the Finchale Abbey ruins, It is run by English Heritage and free to go in. The Abbey was used as a holiday retreat for the Monks coming from the Cathedral in Durham from 1196 onwards.
Next to the ruins and the touring park runs the River Wear, you can fish here if you like and there are also lovely river walks.
There is a small coffee shop next to the ruins if you fancy a drink or snack.
The facilities on site are basic and the shower block is showing its age but it is spotlessly clean, like the park itself.
It is an ADULTS ONLY site but dogs are welcome.
We wnjoyed a short break at the touring park and would recommend it as a base for exploring Durham and south Northumberland. Durgham has three park and ride car parks where you can park your motorhome and then take the bus in to the city centre to explore the castle and the Cathedral.
