I rarely use this feature because it uses up more battery and I don't usually take the kind of pictures the require faster focusing. Basically, the difference is Q-AF allows you to lock the focus point when pressing the shutter button half way and C-AF continuously focuses even with the shutter button pressed half way. With either option active, the camera is always hunting for a rough focus. When you press the button it's already almost there and, therefore, a bit faster. I hope that helps.

@olavsolvang You're absolutely right. That was an oversight on my part when creating the video. That's a very rare feature with digital cameras, most only crop the top and bottom. Even though the 16:9 is lower resolution than the 4:3, it does have more horizontal resolution and will capture a bit more on the sides.
What you say about the sensor is wrong, I'm afraid. The sensor itself is oversized, so all of the aspect ratios crop the picture in one way or another, meaning that the 16:9 use more of the sides, and crop the top and the bottom.
