I was thinking of going with the G9, but I didn't like the fact that Canon still didn't get their ISO noise problems worked out. Despite the lack of a manual viewfinder, the wealth of features in this camera and lens quality is more than enough to make it a winner.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Ricoh LC-1 self-retaining lens cap works with this model, as seen @ Danny Choo's blog. Great review; thanks a lot! I think I will be getting this to replace my ageing CyberShot DSC-T30. The f2.0 will definitely come in handy. Would have been nice if you mentioned a bit about its macro capabilities though; but I guess it's about the usual for a compact. Cheers, Mike.
I'm not sure - you'd need to check the dimensions in both reviews (design pages at cameralabs . com) or at Pansasonic's website. Remember some holes may not line up though!
Great review. I hesitated between the G10 and the LX3 and chose the former... It's amazing. May I suggeest you get a bit further away from your camcorder. It would be nicer and more professional.
Gordon, please tell me which I should get Lx3 or G10?? Im a novice in photography but wanting the learn the basics..I'm not sure if I'm ready to step to a slr..and main point I dont like weight. Lx3 and g10 has it's pro and cons..but after reading many reviews including yours..seems Canon just like to increase megapixels rather then using it's sensors full potential. I want a camera with best image quality for landscape, street photography and some portraits...with manual functions.
It seems this camera had many merits as a good camera back when it came out in 2008. Now that it is 2013, do you think that it can still compete with more modern cameras. I am debating wether to buy this model or other newer cameras.
Hi! I am just wondering what u think about the Leica Dlux 4... it seems both cameras are identical, and people do say those are exact twins each other. Do you know if there are any differences?
It has the potential to, but you have to process it in software on your computer - sometimes the default settings in the software don't look great though - see the results pages for this review at cameralabs . com.
Hi, I don't know, sorry, but feel free to ask in the Panasonic section of the cameralabs forums! Or have a look at some dedicated diving websites as this isn't an area I'm an expert on - sorry!
Comparing between this and Canon G10, I like Pana LX3 better. Only major advantage G10 has over LX3 seems to be the zoom range to the longer side, but everything else, the favor seems to go the other way.
hey im an art student and a first time camera buyer.... ive been looking around and im not sure whether to go for the E-PL1 from Olympus or this( due to the price compared to the pen)
No manual viewfinder, eh? Very odd to see on a camera of this high price range. Nevertheless, it is nice to see Panasonic actually playing this smart and increasing the image quality of their sensor; opposed to the countless point-and-shoot cameras out there who go for higher megapixels, but consequently, lower-quality shots due to a poor image sensor.
The 40D certainly represents great value at the moment - check the verdict page of our D300 review at cameralabs . com to comare them both, and you may also want to read our EOS 50D preview again at cameralabs.
Great camera, but recently have a nagging problem. Every image I take in manual or auto mode has a delay of a few seconds, even though the self timer is turned to OFF. An egg timer appears after each shutter click which you can imagine is really frustrating. Any feedback much appreciated. Brilliant review here, have yet to read your camera labs write ups Cheers
Before doing as you suggested I set it to iA and strangely enough all was normal ! Then. having formatted the card tried Manual and the problem was back once more. However some days later all was normal so have never got to the bottom. Keeping a record of settings so if the problem does reoccur will get back to you. Thanks very much
I love my LX2. the functionality and size. What i don't like about LUMIX is that they are not so much into Firmware updates. Unfortunately I have to wait for a new model to come out just to see an update. I would have enjoyed my LX2 much more if Lumix considered updating firmwares every now and then. So I don't know how much commitment will Panasonic/Lumix put into this specific product. I only wish that DP1 would have copied LX2/LX3's Menu system. LOL

12yrs after, this is still one of the best cameras of all time.

Yes.
Glad to help! Be great to hear what you think of it - and why you chose to buy it - in the Panasonic section of the cameralabs forums!

Switch to the "P" setting and you can change the "film" type there. There are three different types of B&W. I use it all the time. Great camera.

Yes, I'll be reviewing all the new DSLRs just as soon as the manufacturers get sample models over to me.

I haven't tested the Leica versions, so can't say, but I think they tweak the JPEG processing.

@cameralabs Thanks, I will check it out. :) Would you recommend the LX5 or the GF3? Thanks.
Great review, love the Lx3 never thought Panasonic could come up with cam on par fotoquality with G10!
Also plz do the new Panasonic G1 review!
After hesitating between LX3 and Powershot G11, i finnaly bought the Lumix LX3!

Thank you! Very useful video. I'm now confused between S90, G11 and LX3. Could you please give some advice?
I got a lens cap that is retractable so now the cap can stay on
while taking shot. Sweet! This camera still is a top camera IMO.
24mm rocks
Hello Gordon!
Excellent straightforward video, very useful, thanks

does this camera rotate pics when you tilt the camera from horizontal to vertical?

is it possible to take shots with the backscreen lcd off?
what is better the LX3 or the Canon G10

Could be your memory card. Try reformatting it or maybe try a new one, it could be corrupted.

Great camera, I have just bought it. Pity I can't say the same for the Silkypix software.
Thanks for the review, looks like a great camera!
would you think this would be better or the G10??
@mochamocha8 Depends what your priorities are. I'd go for the GF3 for the better quality, but it is bigger, especially with a zoom lens.
Best review video, I've come across, thanks!
How does the camera performs in concert photography?
Can you please do a review video on the LX 5 please?
Thanks Gordon
@mochamocha8 I won't be doing a video review of the LX5, but I did do a very detailed written review at cameralabs . com
Excellent, thorough review. Thank You!
I have no idea - and if I did know, i would be under contract to say nothing. Sorry!
There is no wheel for manual focus, but it has button to adjust focus. relatively it's not so convinient than wheel.
Very useful. Thanks

how to take a video ?
