Blasphemous is not just a successful game it is also a masterpiece 100% without any questions! The soundtrack are unbelievable perfect can't wait for part 2
It has technical problems (bad key bindings on pc, only 3 slots for traversal abilities, instant death spikes, etc.), but the story and world are top tier.
Play the demo!! It seems super polished and a great game. The devs did mention the metroidvania elements were not present in the demo but its in the full game. Also try out nin sols as thats another awesome game but its not a metroidvania... I cant believe how many awesome games are coming to PC in 2023...The top 5 on this list are actually my own top 5.
Agreed. 2023 might be the year of Gaming if even silk song and last faith make it...BTW nin sols is not a metroidvania based on the devs write up more of an action platformer but still amazing.
Oh man, I've just discovered your channel and I'm psyched. An entire channel dedicated to Metroidvanias ? This is such a treat. Now I just have to find a channel dedicated to 3rd person, off-centered camera games and my journey will be complete.
Don't think I can help much with your search for that "3rd person, off-centered camera games" channel, haha. But glad you found my channel. A new video is currently in the making! 👀
@@metroidvaniagg Yeah, that other channel I'm looking for is way too specific IMO haha But I'm looking forward to see that next video. You're doing some great stuff here. Keep going !
I was going to make a comment on which I looked forward to the most but it's hard to narrow down. I think for now I'll say Taopunk, 9 Years in Shadow, Bo, Afterimage and Gestalt as some form of top 5 not mentioning the obvious ones (You know, Silksong and Crowsworn) but it's not an easy list to make. Vernal Edge, Cookie Cutter and The Last Faith look damn cool too but even the games I'm like "Eh I'll pick it up during the winter sale or whatever" look good. There's too many cool games.
Haven't heard of some of these and they've since been wishlisted. Great video, and hope you continue with this channel and site. A game you may have forgotten/don't know about is Rune Fencer Illyia, which is also being targeted for 2023. Looks phenomenal.
Thank you! Yes I'm planning on continuing with this project for the next bit :D And yes of course I heard about Rune Fencer Illyia, but I'm just a bit sceptical about games that want to release in the same year they run their Kickstarter.
Great first video! Very well done, it was exciting to watch (and see how many games have flown below my radar. 😅) Looking forward to see what’s coming up in the future in this channel. Btw, 6:28 you haven’t played Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition?
@@metroidvaniagg yes, the original Guacamelee Gold Edition had a 2 Player option with both its rerelease STCE and apparently also Guacamelee 2 including 4 player coop.
Great video! Didn't know Milton Guasti was involved with Bo. Cool, now I have to ad that game to my wishlist! Other MV's I look forward to that might release this year: Turbo kid, Transmute, Siege and sandfox, Being and becoming, Lucid, Ceplion, Rubi the wayward mira, Gunbrella, Dewdrop dynasty and Rune fencer Illyia. Doubt all will release 2023 though.
Thank you! Both Being and Becming and Rune Fencer Illyia would've made the list, but both still have an entire kickstarter campaign ahead of them. I doubt they will release in 2023. Pretty much every game in your list is pretty hype too. 👀
Thank you! Yes I'm aware of both of these games! The reason they are not on this list is because both still have a Kickstarter ahead of them. I'm just a bit sceptical if you can run a Kickstarter and release the game in the same year.
I've been fortunate enough to try out "Gestalt: Steam and Cinder" during Next Fest and I liked what I've played. It's not groundbreaking from what the demo is showing, but still, can't go wrong with a simply very good game. Other than that, I've got the full release of "Frontier Hunter - Erza's wheel of fortune" on my radar. The early access version is pretty fun (best described as "character-action metroidvania"). Not on this list but on my personal radar: "Akatori" - a combat-heavy metroidvania where you switch between two parallel dimensions, "Rune fencer Illya" (can't say much about it, no demo and repeated delays) and "Momodora - Moonlit Farewell" (Bombservice really make good Souls-vania games). I've enjoyed the list in this video!
Thank you! 😊 Some really good games in your list there! Rune Fencer Illya and Akatori could easily make this list, but I'm just really really doubtful that they will release 2023, since both still have a Kickstarter ahead of them.
Either afterimage isn't launching for consoles or it's set to launch mid 2024 or later cause I can't find it on the playstation store or xbox store. But I did find it on steam.
Just wanted to let you know it was just announced that the last case of Benedict Fox is coming to gamepass day 1 this spring. No actual release date set but can look for it to be in the next few months
Is there anyway to get Steam to alert me of demos that come out? Often times I miss the release of so many cool demos bc they are taken down before I find out about the game!!!
Most of the games on this list had their demos on Steam Next Fest and next one will be probably in June this year. So you might get a chance to try them out in June
"What if we mixed a metroidvania with Kirby's copy ability?" Literally a Kirby Metroidvania is all I've ever wanted. If Nintendo wants me to start paying $70 for games, that's the way to do it.
I see a couple of these game seeem to use the engine of Hollow Knight, the movements, the animation, the style, the mechanics are just so similar. Somethings is going on here.
SOMEONE SHOULD DETHRONE AND STOP HOLLOW KNIGHT! My ears is already bleeding 4 years ago players saying that it is a masterpiece and the best metroidvania. The best last 2017 and it is not a masterpiece! There are many new metroidvania's come on players OPEN YOUR MIND AND SET YOUR EYES AT A DIFFERENT DIRECTION!

Yeah I wish they would drop a bit more info on part 2.
It has technical problems (bad key bindings on pc, only 3 slots for traversal abilities, instant death spikes, etc.), but the story and world are top tier.
I hadn't heard of Biogun. That just shot up on my most wanted list.

Dev said biogun will be ported to switch as well, probably after the steam release
The same.
Fingers crossed that we get at least half of these. Best Metroidvania related video I’ve seen in a LONG TIME - maybe ever
I think there is a good chance we get most of these. But yes fingers crossed, I want to play all of these!
Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤

I’m all in on Turbo Kid and Siege and Sandfox. Hoping for 2023!
Vernal Edge looking good highly recommend wishlisting it
Every game here deserve a wishlist. I'm excited for all 16 of these games.
Great video. Another couple good looking metroidvanias that should release this year are Rune Fencer Illyia and Akatori
Thank you!

Kunai is also a metroidvania with a grappling hook
Good video, also enjoy your site. Thanks!
17:35 so THAT'S where that guy went
No, I did not know about Last Faith. If it was more up my alley it would fry itself in the lamppost. Thank you very, very much.
I needed this list. Currently finishing up Grime Colors of rot and need a new metroidvania.

From what I can tell you can get the game on console but only via retail, aka as a physical disc for PS4/5 or a cartridge for Switch.
@@metroidvaniagg I guess but that doesn't make sense on why they wouldn't do both.
Great video my friend! Hope LUCID can one day make it in a video of yours :)
If it doesn't, I riot!
1°.- Silksong
2°.- Blasphemous 2
3°.- The Last Faith
4°.- Crowsworn
9 Years of Shadow was released on Steam on 3/27/23
Yes I am aware. The game did not have a release date when I uploaded this video.
Vernal Edge Nr. 15 on my list has also released by now.
Awesome video! Also, I love your website!
Thank you, fellow Metroidvania TH-camr! 👀
The boss in the Last Vanguard demo is intense
Just wanted to let you know it was just announced that the last case of Benedict Fox is coming to gamepass day 1 this spring. No actual release date set but can look for it to be in the next few months
Ahh! Thanks for the info, good to know!
No prob. And just found that the gestalt: steam and cinder demo just dropped on steam! Next fest hadn’t even started yet though I think it just did

Bo and 9 sols protagonist look like long lost brothers, lol.
Not wrong lol.
Guess it makes sense because both games have a similar artstyle.
not my type of games, but leaving a comment for the algorithm, keep pushing :)
GOAT! 🙏
Add Elypse, Doomblade, AWAKEN - Astral Blade, and RIN: The Last Child and you have yourself a solid 20!
Not sure if I'd pick those 4 games in particular, but not bad choices at all!
My list goes like this. 1. Blasphemous 2. Silksong 3. Last faith 4. Benedict Fox.
Sadly, the 9 years of Shadows Demo just keeps crashing on me. Such a good game from what I can play.
Have you played moonscars?
I have not, but I played the Demo in a Steam Next Fest last year. It was a pretty solid Souls-like Metroidvania.
Just wanted to say, that website is awesome btw.
Thank you!
"What if we mixed a metroidvania with Kirby's copy ability?"
Literally a Kirby Metroidvania is all I've ever wanted. If Nintendo wants me to start paying $70 for games, that's the way to do it.
According to some - Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland & Kirby and the amazing Mirror are metroidvania's, but I'm not sure if I would agree to that.
I see a couple of these game seeem to use the engine of Hollow Knight, the movements, the animation, the style, the mechanics are just so similar. Somethings is going on here.
Are any of these PS4 game's
Silk song will come out in 2099
Silksong will be the next Half Life 3.
@@metroidvaniagg 😆 🤣 😂

Yes... It's not like my backlog was small before this... 😅
blashpamis 2 looks amazing
Cookie cutter and Silk Song ♡
Love it!
SILKSONG Dagnabbit!!!!
1 and 2 only
Please start a Discord!
I have been thinking on doing that, but I think I want to get "established" a bit first before doing that. But yeah Soon tm
@@metroidvaniagg Fair enough! Looking forward to it, and thanks for what you do for the Troider community!
@@brociopath69 My pleasure!!
The best metroidvania of 2022 was super metroid subversion, its a shame you didn't even mention it.
*PROBABILITY
BO looks waaaaay too close to hollow knight, just a brighter color pallet.
Kkkkkkk
Curse of the sea rats is weird, why rats? Of all creatures? This is like iron tail, another game about rats...

I downvoted for improper use of the word "decimate". 😐
I pretty much given up on the hype about sliksong the long slow burn out wAit is starting to make me lose faith in the game 🎮 😒
