Sometimes the chains make a slapping or tapping noise from being worn. Sometimes the camshaft will break, they are hollow inside. Could be replaced with an aftermarket solid-core one, from what I've heard.
When the motor died, I just didn't have time to deal with it. Part of me wanted to try and revive it, but I knew I wouldn't be able to get to it for a few months.
Looking back through the donation documentation, the mileage was never written down. I honestly have no idea. Couldn't have been more than 140,000 miles. I didn't change the timing chain. I'm willing to bet it was the original chain.
@@litemizer Thank you kindly for the reply! Yeah that sounds original for sure. Guess I'd better start thinking about the chain on mine, only at 110,000 but slowly getting there. Stuff like that coming out of left field has always concerned me given the powertrain seems to be in good shape with plenty of life left. Again a real shame with y'alls Lumina given how much work and TLC you both had put into it, random cats notwithstanding!

Oof, that really sucks. What was the mileage when the timing chain went out on it and was it the original chain?
