If you drive a manual you have skill. It takes more skill to shift in a manual and you're more in control of the car. It's like you're one with it. Paddle shift takes skill out of shifting. So no driver error because a computer does it for you. So might as well say auto. Takes no skill to use a auto or paddle shift.
the one make toyota series aint exactly the pinicle of speed why not use the manual instead at least there will be some drama in heel and toe and missshifting to spice up the race since all the car will be the same it really shows the driver skill in dancing on the pedal during a race.
I'm curious how the cup cars are dealing with dips in oil pressure on turns. Particularly on long right hand sweepers. People have logged concerningly low oil pressures on track and possibly the cause of spun bearings. I know the cup cars are running an external oil cooler and possibly a bit of an overfill. But I've sen some of the cup cars break down with no explanation.
Toyota never experienced any of this that you mention across 7 cars the whole of last year. The same cars are being campaigned again this year, and still not a single mechanical gremlins or fault so far. [Chad]
The North American GR86 Cup cars are fitted with sequential gearboxes, the South African one has to make do with the traditional torque convertor arrangement - it helps keep the racing affordable. [Chad]
im an owner of a GR86 automatic and its not as bad as many youtubers make it sound its still an amazingly fun drive (crisp /responsive) that gives you the option to gun it when you want too, I just feel its to the point that autos are unfairly stigmatized, almost like little kids setting up weird rules in the playground 🤣
hi good to hear you enjoy the automatic ! as all reviews refer to manual… I have a Cayman981 PDK as my daily and thinking to buy GR86 automatic for trackdays
Sir, thx great video and finally someone who likes the automatic! Q: this is completely stock automatic gearbox with no issues used under high load on track? Rgs
Only one of the tracks that these cars race at has corners that would be taken in excess of 160 km/h (100 mph) and even then, the mechanical grip is favoured over the aerodynamic grip. The cars are not set up with aero in mind. [Chad]
@@Teefs69 driven the auto and it’s a good deal faster than the manual. It’s actually shocking how fast the 0-60 is which is around the mid to high 5 second range in manual mode. I have no idea why all the reviews have been trashing the auto
The cup cars are amazing. Had a blast racing them this season. Amazing brakes and sequential gearbox.
For racing, paddle makes sense. For daily, I’ll take a manual box all day.
You could also say that vice versa
Lol. I came to say this. I know manual wouldn't be as fast on a track, but damn it fun. And I love my manual, but using it in traffic is a nightmare

The cup cars exhaust sounds so much better than the simulated sound in street spec
I own a automatic gr86 and your one of the only people who like the auto 2
I would naturally prefer the manual, but for this purpose and in the name of longevity and close competition, the Auto is a great choice. [Chad]
when I ever buy a GR86 it will be automatic
had a GT86 auto for 5 years
now Porsche Cayman981 PDK
How do I get that helmet without buying a GR Cup car??
It's a regular Bell GT5 with some vinyl applied. [Chad]

Does the Bosch ECU make the automatics behave any differently?
The South Africa GR Cup cars run the standard ECU with no modifications whatsoever. [Chad]
Zooom zoom zooom. Oh GReat.
odd that they chose to use the standard auto. I could have sworn they used a sequential gearbox

Noticed an exhaust difference between the two. Do they have the cabin engine speaker disabled in the cup one?
That's a good question. I'm not sure but it wouldn't surprise me if it is disabled. [Chad]
It has a different exhaust than the stock GR86.

Do these cars run oil pan baffle?
there are some aftermarket baffles, but they are barely effective on the tight right turns where the oil pressure problem is the most noticeable
No, no baffles in these. Standard, unopened engines. [Chad]
Sir,
thx great video and finally someone who likes the automatic!

Not a single issue at all, on any one of the cars, throughout all the racing so far. [Chad]

thanks for reply
that is great news !
patiently waiting for reliable turbo/supercharger kits.
A jdl turbo kit is out rn and hks has a supercharger

Just imagine the oil leaks.
when you are going around a turn at a 100 mph the wing helps for sure, this guy has no clue some how lmao

What’s the 0-60 time in the cup car?
I was told it’s slower than the road car
That auto is 2.1 sec faster
That's the difference that a set of tyres and brakes makes to the car. [Chad]
@@Autotradersa good to know that auto is not as bad as all TH-camrs said! I should consider the auto because of traffic in my city.
