Always glued to TV on Thursday nights to watch Hazel at 9:30 on KRCA in Los Angeles.
Dad bought his first of three Thunderbirds for 1963.
He picked it up from the Ford dealer (Jessie E. Smith Ford, Glendale, California) on 12.24.1962.
For this 10 year old, it was the best Christmas ever!
Great TV Show and TV commercials, I still watch Hazel from time to time on the Family Entertainment Television channel 323 SD on DIRECTV TV. I read that the the Hazel TV show was the first time a 64 1/2 Mustang appeared in a TV series.
My family watched Hazel . We were also fans of Fords . I'm 70 , and I own a 2014 Edge . I liked the early cars from Ford , they were sporty and so cool , especially the Mustang .
Fords go back further than the '60s. Much further back....
@@cratecruncher4974 As far back as the 20s or 30s , I think 🤔 .
@@Linda-sq2ti Ya know they made the model A, right?
The 1963 Fairlane was one of my favorite models that year. Mr. B had the white Fairlane 500 hardtop. I remember seeing the car in the episode "Oh, My Aching Back."
I was only 2 years old in 1963. However, I had gasoline surging through my veins before I could even crawl. As I got older, I fell in love with sitcoms like "Hazel", "Leave It To Beaver", "Bewitched", etc. I watched for all of the beautiful cars. I still watch these shows 60 years later and enjoy them all. The cars of the 1960's were so beautiful. I loved the silver, 1963 Thunderbird Roadster that "Mr. B"'s bitchy sister drove. That T-Bird Roadster was one of the most striking cars of the '60s. I'd give anything to go back to the 1960s and 1970s to be a kid again. So glad I can remember riding in, driving, and owning these wonderful American cars.
New cars do absolutely nothing for me. New cars all look like jelly beans on wheels.
My favorite was the triple red 64 Galaxy they showed in the opening credits. What a beautiful automobile!!👍❤️
Good choice!
@@ClassicCarChannel Back in those days, my uncle had a Ford dealership just west of Erie, PA. I was a little kid, but I can still remember the incredible cars he had in his showroom! These vehicles today all look alike! Those old Fords had style!!
The LTD and wagons were epic to
That was a close second for me. I liked the rose and black galaxy XL fastback #1
@renesagahon4477 That was a doozie, too! My uncle had a Ford dealership in a town called Northeast, PA back in those days. I was just a kid & my Dad & I used to go & check out the new Fords all of the time. They really made some beautiful automobiles back then! Everything looks the same today.
I was watching a Hazel rerun and the Ford in the driveway had the 427 emblem on it.
That red Fairline was really slick looking!
I drove a 63 Falcon Futura, straight 6 with '3-on-the -tree' shifter.Loved that car.As a kid,we were moved about in a 63 Galaxie Wagon with the 3 seats that had a big V-8 and Auto trans for Mom.
Proud owner of a 63 1/2 Galaxie 500 here and I approve these messages.
That is what I learned to drive on, mine had a 289 V8.
Nice car!
These are back on reruns. Brings back old memories. It's kind of funny. Mr. Griffin drove a blue galaxy convertible, and Mr. B had a red galaxy convertible 🙂
One of my favorite cars. I had the Falcon Futura sprint, red convertible, 260 four barrel four speed .❤
Little known fact Ms. Booths birth name was Thelma Ford . Her predecessor in the NBC Thurs 9:30 ET time slot was The Ford Show with Tenn. Ernie Ford . Before him in the same slot there was the Ford Theater . Ford seemed to favor their namesakes in "their" time period . Ms. Booth was a contemporary of Frances Bavier of TAGS in their early New York theater days .
Hazel was secretly out at night street racing with a 406 Galaxie. 🚦🚗🚗
🤟😅🤙
The Fairlanes and Falcons from that era still look stylish 60+ years after they were built. Yes I remember the TV show, just!😂
My Cousin Joe had a New 1963 Fairlane with the 260 V8. Beauitful car.
I’m about the same age as “Sport” the son on Hazel. My family never missed the show and I loved the Fords, especially when the Mustang was introduced.
Yeah product placement big and Apr 1964. Was intro of mustang but hazel got a drive in one. To dinner same with full fords and on Andy Griffith and. FBI
Me too!..
Though, as a boy at the time, I swooned over the T-Bird!
@@gregt8638
OMG! The Mustang was the one and only car for me, even if I was only 7.
@@dave1956 ford bought ad commercial time major networks to ad the car..pre production ones at world's fair. NYC. 1964
Sadly Bobby Buntrock was killed in a car crash shortly after the Hazel series ended....I always thought he was a great child actor. I think he would have still been acting today.....
They were nice cars. My brother had an almost identical red Falcon convertible but his was 6/stick, 3-speed.
When Hazel said those Fords were a doozy, it was funny. No Ford compared to a Dusenburg!
I really enjoyed that!
Thanks so much for posting!
I love both the cars and the characters from the Hazel show!
My first car was a, then two year old, 1963 Falcon convertible in a champaign gold color with a black top and black interior - took it to prom my senior year - wish I still had it. But a few more years in northern Ohio winters took its toll - but then a yellow and black 1966 Ford Mustang convertible was next - rust got that one too :-)
10:25 - Isn't that Steve & Barbara Baxter's house? :)
It also showed up on BEWITCHED & IDOJ episodes, and IDOJ had a S1 scene w/ Jeannie's phony parents in the living room of that house.
I love the show! And always loved that car👍
That was Wild. High quality production👍
Much appreciated
I went to my local Ford dealer but they only have pickup trucks.
Our neighbors had a new 63 and a half galaxy XL fastback …my aunt and uncle a new 64 XL galaxy. such nice looking cars
Back when a "middleweight" *really was* a middleweight, before all the late-'60s bloating. I remember seeing lots of these still on the roads in the mid-late '70s, and liking the big round tail lights and modest fins (not big enough for me, an Exner fan, but tasteful nonetheless).
My dream 1963 Fairlane with a Hi Po 289 cid Challenger V-8 pumping out 271 hp with 4 speed stick.
Man, now that was living!
my aunt had the Ford Galaxy it was beautiful four doors blue interior perfection
I remember when Mr. B was driving a "torpedo" T-Bird. Maybe 1963. BTW, Whitney Blake was beautiful.
I liked the placement of the hood release on full size 63 Fords.
Shirley Booth , enjoyed playing Hazel. By 1966, she wanted to move on in her acting career.
FYI: "Bobby" was involved in a car wreck I believe at age 21 that killed him. It was the early 1970s.
Bobby died 4.07.1974.
Keystone, South Dakota
Even the commercials were entertaining then. Today, we live in a very different time.
Hazel and. Cast ddrove a 65mustang apr. 1964 days before official into and SPECIAL EP dedicated to them going to eat in MUSTANG
I like that they got everyone involved with this except that awful Deidre.
Enjoyed!!!!
Looks like they did these quite a few of these ads. Since it was "Hazel" and not Shirley Booth etc. the contract was likely between Ford and the sitcom's producer and the actors were required to do it with little extra compensation. The show was a hit and the actors were very popular. Paid endorsements would have been profitable. Always READ your contract, haha.
Ironically, Bobby Buntrock died in a car accident at 21.
Ford paid Screen Gems/Columbia the extra money needed to film the show in color. Chrysler did the same with the series EMPIRE--becoming the first Screen Gems drama in color.
Darrin and Samantha Stephen’s house lurking next door
Loved Hazel ❤.
In Australia we thought all Americans had a maid.
HA! Now that's hilarious.
We don't all have a maid, but many of us work as a maid,or a Janitor. 😮
I bought a '63 Fairlane used in '68. Very good looking car, However everything you can think Of went wrong with it. And I always had trouble starting it in the winter. I can definitely say it was the worst car I ever owned. To this day , I will not buy a ford. The letters in ford mean Fix or repair daily.😅
These afd generally connect to a specific episode...9:45 Haze went to the man who built the defective vacuum cleaner Harold was carrying
Ah ! the old days of TV cast commercials , Ford even had the Hazel semi regulars doing commercials . The Ford Falcon = The Ford Mustang with a different body . clever .
The Mustang basically was the Falcon Sprint with a different body, no?
@@timothyhh From what I gather the Mustang was based on the plain old compact 1960 Falcon with different body . The Muscle Car emphasis came a little bit later . It first marketed as small easy to operate "secretaries" car that caught on with a wide audience.
@@JJJBRICE I know the Mustang was built off the Falcon platform, but I thought it shared even more with the Falcon Sprint, including intended market.
@@timothyhh You are right some underbody elements of the sportier Falcon Sprint were similar to the Mustang but apparently Ford did not like the look and gave it the Mustang distinctive look . The Mustang became a runaway hit and the Falcon Sprint was retired in a short time .
First time I saw this....Cool!
I love ❤️ this video
People don't drool over cars anymore like you've seen here.
I don't blame em.
I am 58 & somehow I never heard of the Hazel show . 🤔
Where were you hiding?
@@danielthoman7324 lol. I guess I was too busy watching reruns of Gilligans Island.🥴
It was even mentioned in an episode of the Sopranos! 🙂
I love the simplicity of these car ads and the cars! Car ads today are hideous.
I can only find these at the junk yard!
Thanks. Interestingly, seeing a new 1963.5 “ Scatback” 😅😅GALAXIE 500 :427 /4 Speed, in use & c lose up ( not to mention 1963 MERCURY,FAIRLANE Sporty models):
My parents bought a used '63 Falcon Squire. It was a POS that barely had any power. My best (worst) memory was the vacuum wipers that barely moved. Did it have any engine options? The Mustang was famously based on the Falcon undercarriage, and it had engine options, like a 289 V8 !
My brother bought a used '61 Falcon in the fall of 1963.
It had the small 6 cyn (85 hp) engine.
0 to 60 in two days 🤣
I really am a sucker when Hazel sells a Ford.
Yup going to Ford dealer saying hazel sent me
All good stuff. Have you seen commercials since the 90s? UGH
63 and a half?
Yes. Mid year introductions; Fastback roofs on Falcon and Galaxie, V8 in Falcon.
The first Mustang was a 1964 1/2.
@@Alan-lv9rwNo, early Mustangs were all 1965's even though those early production cars had some differences to those built later. The 64 1/2 nonsense is a latter day term.
Nope pre production stangs were labeled that and ones made for NYC world's fair were made as 64half then sold as 65 they had generators instead of alternators and falcons IP
@@gerry-p9x The VIN's all had a 5. None were ever advertised nor sold as a "64 1/2"
L O V E that red convertible (and of course, Hazel)!
Falcon sprint got killed by mustangs
I’m old enough to remember ‘Hazel’s’ nasally voice. Five minutes was enough for me.
I clicked on the "View Products" button, but 1963 Ford Falcon didn't come up. Where can I buy one?
From the same place I get my 1964 Lincoln and Ford Galaxie.
I thought in the later years they were soncerned by crysler
I quit Hazel after they replaced Mr. And Mrs. B
Back when cars were exciting. New models every year. Option everything the way you wanted it. Now, just generic looking cars.
It would be awesome if sponsors required that the stars of every TV show today had to do all their show's commercials too.
Nice :)
All the more reason I hate advertising. Lies on lies and backed by liars.
My motto: If they have to pay to sell their product, it's crap.
I wonder why they didn’t show any of their interiors with their under dash a/c. They talked up the sportiness and luxury but not one of them had air conditioning.
In 1963 factory air conditioning would have been installed on a pretty small percentage of the "Low Priced Three" nameplates. Wasn't on a large percentage of the more upscale brands, either, at that time. Most of those installs likely would have been cars sold in the Southwestern part of the country.
I think the '63 T-Bird may have been the only Ford model with dashboard-integrated factory A/C that year. If I'm not mistaken, the full-size Fords didn't get built-in-the-dash A/C until the '65 model year, followed by Falcon and Fairlane in '66, and finally Mustang in '67.
@@g0989
I know but I was just curious because especially on their full sized cars they kept comparing them to the Thunderbird which was evidently the flagship, that they would’ve put fully optioned cars in their commercials. All of the other automakers did the same thing. Even in the Chevy and Chrysler commercials their cars didn’t feature their in-dash factory air conditioning options. I know ac was an expensive option but when you are trying to sell your widgets in an ad campaign I would think that you would want to put the prettiest girl in the ad. The only auto maker that I can recall that really promoted that option in commercials was Nash Rambler starting in the min 50s.
You're absolutely correct....i remember the TV spots for '65 full size Fords touting the dash integration...chevy had in-dash integration starting in 1963, though their prior factory units were more subtle, with vents spread under dash on left right and middle leading up to their in-dash design . Our first AC car was a '64 Impala wagon...Harrison AC units in GM cars were far superior to Ford's clunky rumbly York compressors, silent and bone-chillingly cold. Chrysler's V-shaped Airtemp compressors were almost as good as GM's. I was always carsick as a kid...the minute we had ice-cold AC, never got sick again @@g0989.
Back in those days, A/C was most always a luxury , unless it was top of the line model , most of us didn't miss what most of us didn't have , we we're a tougher generation in the sixties era , my dad did finally order a 1966 country squire wagon w/air condition , it was a treat and considered a luxury wagon , the 60's we're amazing times , I was born in early 1960 , wouldn't trade those days !
@@stewartladuke8663 I used to think the same thing until I saw some of Classic Ride Society's junkyard videos where he has found several old cars with low level trim and AC as about the only option. I think this was more the case in humid climates where some people would forego just about everything else to get A/C. There was a family on my street that was originally from Iowa and brought their 65 Ford Country Sedan with them to Northern, CA. Anyway, this wagon was pretty bare bones, with a 3 on the tree and radio delete plate, but it had factory A/C. For a few years, I think they were the only family on our street to have it.
Ironic she says Fords are “Doozies “ Doozies” refers to the Duesenberg cars.
The Hazel TV show was lousy.
