LAUNCH DAY is in all caps because as you will notice, we ran into some issues with lag, queuing and server connectivity. All that being said, Temtem is an ambitious and incredibly authentic Pokemon-style game from an indie developer that just came out yesterday. Check it out!

About this game:
Catch new Temtem on Omninesia’s floating islands, battle other tamers on the sandy beaches of Deniz or trade with your friends in Tucma’s ash-covered fields. Defeat the ever-annoying Clan Belsoto and end its plot to rule over the Archipelago, beat all eight Dojo Leaders, and become the ultimate Temtem tamer!

Pre-release had a bald hairstyle to pick but it got removed in the final version for some reason so the game's now unplayable,

Definitely. An indie pc pokemon game has a lot of potential but it does feel a bit too familiar right off the bat.
@@fenmio13370 Still, just because a game offer MMO style doesn't mean it will kick pokemon ass. It is similar to the WoW killer, LoL killer and CoD killer, oh guess what no game actually success. Sure, they can learn from it but I don't expect to gain all the attraction of the Pokemon fandom.

@@Trent8086 I do not own the game, but according to friends who play it these issues have been fixed.
The most accursed part of this video is that "egg lord" isn't properly capitalized in the dialogue.
I'd like to see more of this game. Hopefully NL will come back to this a little after launch once it's more stable!
BTW, he played it with rob yesterday, it was still kinda messy but I had fun
Game runs fine now, took them 36 hours to fix the server issues. Give the game a go, it’s great!

Temtem Apex is a refreshingly adult take on the Tem universe, grounded in reality and full of real world problems, in which you play a young boy who finds himself able to travel to a strange world full of powerful demons called Temtems. I find regular pokemon games boring as hell. Tem Tem has at least some difficulty, and has other players to spice it up a bit.

I played every pokemon up to sinnoh, and I stopped partly because I didn't have the new consoles, but also partly because of the weirder pokemon designs. But recently my gf has been saying that she wants to try to play SwSh - I've just been put off buying it because of the mixed reviews and the price increase.
@@tb4076 I personally do, I think that swsh is the best so far in spite of the controversies. I like all the new pokemon designs, and I love how they've changed a lot of the core mechanics.

Can't play offline and the servers still aren't great but it's gonna get better.
@@pokugrf4000 WHY. The servers have been locked to 20k players when there is a 60k queue. Why the hell won't they let you play offline.

If you handled the fights client-side, you could edit them. You can't give the client access to that.

Aside from the inevitable launch day issues, I think this looks absolutely fantastic. I've played and love many pokemon games in the past and from what you showed it really does seem like they poured a ton of love into this to make sure the same game-feel came across. This is my first time even hearing about it and I'm super excited to try it out once some of the growing pains have been fixed.
I can't take the sound Smazee makes seriously because it's the same exact chimp sound they use in the Donkey Kong 64 intro.

Re: battles client side
Wouldn't that make it possible to cheat difficult battles or catch temtem that are supposed to be very difficult to catch very easily? Also, probably makes sense to code all battles in the same way.
Was about to comment on that possibility. For an mmo it's usual to have almost everything checked by the server to avoid cheating.
Plus that point about all battles coded the same seems valid, solving the problem of online battles and possibly cheating at the same time.
I tried to play mid-day on launch day and that did not go well, but I did play for a couple of hours that night after work and it seems pretty solid, there are a lot of interesting mechanics, like interactions between tems. pretty optimistic that this will be quite successful
My one critique so far is just *how* similar to pokemon it is. I know they're trying to be like it, but they didn't have to follow the same formula of being a kid who goes to the professor and gets his first lvl5 starter and fights his rival, etc, etc. Combat wise, I like that they removed the PP and added the stamina

I have a feeling this game will be to Pokemon what Dauntless was to Monster Hunter. This game will get some steam going and pick up some success and then Nintendo will loose the hounds in order to secure a stranglehold. Ultimately it will make Pokemon better--competition is supposed to--but it means TemTem will get destroyed in the process.

Well I mean it shows what to expect, nl's probably right client side battles would solve a lot of issues probably. nl attempts temtem the digital monster pokemon clone, why does he store them on cards digitised if they're not digital temtem *thinking face* Also do they digivolve or evolve later hmmm..
I'm hyped for this but I'm definitely waiting for full release

The number next to moves appears to be the amount of energy expended, not the damage it does. And the fact that there's an energy bar for what seems to be all moves instead of X amount of uses per move is pretty different from Pokemon and you probably need to manage that energy bar quite a bit.

I got to play this game for like 10 minutes after sitting through an 8000 player queue before it just froze when trying to start my first wild battle, but even just based on the barely accessible first impressions, this game looks like it'll be worth the price of admission easily when it's more ironed out.
Nintendo could learn a fair bit from Temtem!

People have been saying Max is too annoying, but that's exactly why I like him. Newer pokemon rivals are way too god damn nice. Max just doesn't give a single shit about what he says to people.
temtem seems pretty rad and ambitious but I do wish it seemed a bit less.... 'Let's take Pokémon mechanics and aspects and give them a new name'. that it had more of its own identity, I guess?
That's not to say it doesn't have new stuff (the stamina system seems neat and unique, for one), but I can't help but roll my eyes at stuff like 'Luma monsters' or 'Training Values', 'Single Values', 'Traits', etc. I dunno. It doesn't bother me as much with something like, say, Rivals of Aether's obvious smash inspiration, but maybe it's because they're mostly pretty blatant about the borrowed terms (a wavedash is still a wavedash) and also have more core gameplay changes. Still hope the game does well tho, having more competition in the monstercatching genre is good.
I mean, its literally supposed to be the pokemon mechanics everyone loves, in an mmo format, with better animations everyone has been dying for and a better competitive atmosphere.
Basically, actual competition to pokemon so gamefreak cant just laze around and passively collect income.
ignoring the game freak bad stuff, I know, and I don't mind the battle system being similar and stuff of the sort ESPECIALLY after looking more into it and seeing cool new additions like the Hold and Synergy mechanics, and the permanent double battles. The core gameplay seems fresh enough.
They're nitpicks, but really I'm referring to stuff like having not-shinies, or calling EVs and IVs (which aren't even official names anyways) by different names just to make them seem more unique than it actually is I guess? I wouldn't mind having their own actually unique mechanics, or being more blatant about it and just saying "yeah we got IVs", even tho I know the legal aspect is a big worry w a game like this. The middle-term just bothers me.
@@Sparkjolteon Its just for legal reasons, like you said. Nintendo is extremely sue happy, and has been getting major flak from the western gaming community especially as a company for being so blatantly anti-consumer in their practices, especially on youtube and twitch.
yea, I get that that's a concern. but like.... EVs and IVs aren't even official terms. there's some Smash-like games that use a lot of similar terms super blatantly (shields, specials, fair/bair/etc, wavedashing, stuff like that) and they're doing just fine, so I don't think it's as dangerous as people make it out to be. it just makes it feel kinda silly and bashful of its own identity imo
also you could totally do some cooler stuff with the idea of Rare versions of monsters rather than just making slightly fancier totally-not-shinies. feels like a wasted opportunity to not try smth new there
@@Sparkjolteon The difference is smash clones arent smash clones, as smash is a fighting game, which didnt come first. Pokemon is the only real game in its genre currently, so nintendo lawyers would be a lot more sue happy, as they tend to be. Its unlikely that it would hold up in court, or even get to that point, but its just nipping the issue out before it even becomes one.
Why aren't battles done entirely client side? I believe the producers of Everquest said something like 'Never put too much in the hands of your enemies' If combat was done client side, that would be wide open for hackers, and since this is a MMO where you can battle other players, that would make the experience bad.
I'll probably play this but I'd prefer a single player pokemonalike

The hype hasn't died, but their man JohnHacker optimized the shit out of it. 1 crash in 20 hours of gameplay today (Don't @ me) and the number of players the server can handle is rapidly increasing (from 20k to 30k+ in 24 hours). GIVE IT ANOTHER GO

Okay, I didn't disliked it I just found it way too simple, you should try Monster Sanctuary a great combination of monster collection, rpg, and metroid-vania elements with, surprisingly, lots of content for an unfinished game
Sorry to say but it can't be a UDP packet, only a TCP one, since the critical difference is that UDP packets are just shot and not insured, whereas TCP packets are waited for until they arrive (more or less).
NL...an offline mode would *just* be another pokemon game.

i love NL and i watched the video, but temtem seems just not worth it, it looks and feels like the game that hypes you 1000% up because of high expectation and nostalgia, but it just doesnt live up to it

There is an unofficial pokemon MMO called Poke MMO which is not bad but it is just the prior games converted into an MMO format

I don't know about spanish - the developer is from Spain iirc -, but in portuguese ç sounds like an s. And I'll wait some time to try it, the server issues seem frustrating.
We don't have that character in Spanish! But a lot of people read it as a Spanish 'c' (S or K sound in English, depending on the vowel) for names from Portuguese/Brazilian origin.
Unrelated, if the developer is from a Spanish-speaking country, the Temtem named Paharo is such a joy (bird in Spanish is pájaro... With pretty much the same pronounciation 😂)

I think it's been awhile since we had a Pokemon-like. Back in the late 90s, they were all over the place with Monster Rancher and unreleased in English stuff like Telefang or as you know it...Pokemon Diamond/Jade.
Well, I'm not fond of the mirrored character portraits in a 3D real-time rendered game. You just know that was a deliberate choice, because something something tradition.

I'm all for giving Gamefreak a wake up call but this game does seem a little too derivative for my liking. With that being said i actually like a lot of the designs i've seen so far. I'm cautiously optimistic for this game.
pokemon to me always looked like a shitty late nineties RPG. Same battle mechanics, but worse, shitty story and uninspired art style. Compare it to something like chrono trigger or Final Fantasy VI - X. The only thing going for it is the “gotta catch them all” hoarding gimmick, which coincidentally feeds into the predatory economic model.
