I love these women they are so strong and true. I know they come from many nations I too am taína and Nigerian also Creole Native and African American. I am a 6th generation Trail of tears descendant and survivor. Keetowah. My ears tear up and my soul shakes everytime I hear this song. My 4 times great grandmother and father walked barefoot while my 3 times great grandmother watched inside the carriage and she was only 12 at the time. But I am proud that all of my grandmothers were VERY strong and despite everything we lost, we still knew our medicines and are resilient medicine women. I love this song.
PURA FE, IT HAS BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE WE SANG , DRUMMED , AND DANCED TOGETHER. MANY THINGS HAVE CHANGED SINCE THEN, HOWEVER, LISTENING TO THIS MAKES IT SOUNDS LIKE YESTERDAY THAT WE SHARED FOOD WITH THE LUMBEE NATION IN PEMBROKE, NC ....UNCLE RICHARD IS LONG CROSSED OVER, HOWEVER, I STILL TELL HIS STORIES WHEN EVER I CAN. I STILL HEAR HIS BELLS WHEN HE WALKED IN, OR DANCED...I MISS THOSE DAYS BUT, THANK YOU FOR GIVING THEM TO ME ONE MORE DAY, WITH THIS SONG,AND THE REST OF YOUR SONGS... A HO MITAKUYE O'YASIN DEBBIE
Debbie Jackson What wonderful memories you have. Yes, time does pass so quickly. I don't know Pura Fe, but love her music. She has a home site where she might see your comments. I'm Moppet on utube, but my name is Barbara. I have a Native American Playlist on my Channel if you'd like to see more of their music. (MyMoppet52) Thank you for listening & leaving such a wonderful comment. I hope you can get into contact with her. My best, Moppet
The first time I heard this song I cried and cried. But the more I listened, could feel the strength of the ancestors who never gave up! Thank you for this soul touching song.
@LeoBertolino I am so glad you enjoyed them. I loved taking the photos. I wanted to show what they were singing about. Their songs touch me. I am so glad you stopped by and thank you so much for commenting. It means a lot to me to get feedback. My best to you!
Thank you for posting this song! I had bought their album at a pow wow in 1997 but lost it a couple of years after. I kept on singing the songs I remembered but am thrilled to see them now on TH-cam. May these remain part of our human heritage!
Are you doing anything to stop the rape and MURDER of the children that is still being carried out to this very day? Otherwise you have no natural "Love" in you. You're definitely part of the problem. Pick a team.

continued. That they sing songs from ALL Nations. I am not disputing that this song is about the Skaroora (Tuscarora), but it does indeed mention The Trail of Tears. Believe it & it is sad, but many do not know what that is. I am just trying to do a small bit of education, since I don't know how to write much in the MovieMaker program, along with the music. Again, I appreciate your comment. I mean no disrespect to the Skaroora. My best, Moppet (Barbara)
@kickingmule Thank you so much. I know why they say, 'the blues, tell the world where it comes from." They talk & write about their brothers & sisters from Africa, Nigeria, in this song & that is where the blues comes from also. Slavery. This land was stolen from them! My great-great grandmother hid in the hills. She didn't go on Trail of Tears. I took pics of plants from their time. Wild flowers. Rocks were some 30+ feet high. It rained in fall so deer & trees were not bright. Thanks!
This is so unbelievably beautiful. Rarely do you REALLY hear old souls but this is it. Can't even describe the depths with which this hit me. Thank you so very much for creating this music and thank you to Moppet (Barbara) for posting it.
Hello. I appreciate your comments and they have been very helpful. I listed the names of their tribes, per themselves, and I do have Tuscarora down for both Pura Fe and Jennifer Kresiberg. (They used this term instead of skaroora, not me.). I know that they are not Cherokee. They mention the Trail of Tears & going back to Carolina often in the song. (Several Nations were removed in The Trail of Tears - including Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole),I've seen them live & they state, cont.
Wonderful, Barbara! Great pictures and to be honest, I love mountains. I tell my wife that someday I would love to live among mountains someday. They are peaceful and cool which make me forget all earthly tedious things. I love all these pics you took. I love the song, which is kind of blue. It fits what you describe about a sad history. I hope one day I could visit smoky mountains. Pray for me.
Oh do! We kept writing to North Caroline back in the 70s to find our place on the family tree. / wheel. People have a terrible hate for redbone / cinnamon "girl" like me. Thank you for sharing this song. It feels like the harmonies are woven together, almost as seamlessly as the histories of the people they sing. I've always been a great admirer of Native American culture. Their spiritual connection with the earth and their honourable way of life inspires me. Through researching their history, I found other indigenous- 1st Peoples- and further enlightenment. I'm self educated and mean no disrespect by any of my words. I sincerely believe if all people lived as, most, of the First Peoples advocate, our world would be a much better place. If wisdom comes with age, why not listen to the oldest People of all? Peace and Blessings :)
Jessica Is Immortal What a wonderful, insightful comment. I have to memorize 'First Peoples' because I know there are so many cultures that are no longer. I agree with your statement. It appears they have a different ideal whereas most other peoples want to grab, ruin, destroy...others AND nature. I took most of these photos. They are from my Aunt's farm in the mountains. Her great-grandmother (my great-great) hid in the mountains from the roundup. She then moved to a different area & passed as white so she wouldn't be rounded up again for some of the secondary marches. When I was little, we couldn't tell anyone that my great grandma was an "Indian" as was said in the 50's. I thought my parents were ashamed & it hurt me terribly even though I wasn't even in school yet! I found out years later...in my 50's...that there were STILL LAWS ON THE BOOKS at that time when I was young, and the family could have had their farm confiscated! Our government didn't treat it's peoples right & still doesn't! Thank you for listening & helping me with my wording and memory. I appreciate your comments very much. My best to you, Barbara
