Ahh, my all-time favorite by Eurythmics! Combined with the video for the song, a bone-chilling masterpiece!

Have you heard the live version from the Revival Tour? There's a poor-quality video on youtube, but the same performance is also on the 'Live 1983-1989' double CD, which you can find on the official Eurythmics youtube channel. Highly recommended!

Agree! The whole video is stunning! You can pause it at any point and any of the images would look great in a frame!!

Annie has such a commanding and soulful voice. Another achingly beautiful song.

By the way, the next track "Angel" is also one of those that is beautiful on it's own but even better with the video.
And don't expect a rerun of "There Must Be An Angel...".. But i don't want to give too much away 😉

This song definitely grows on you the more you listen to it. It's brutal in its honesty.

One of my favorite Eurythmics song-video combos. The video is perfectly choreographed to the song and gives one a deeper appreciation for the sonics and the melancholy.

Everyone here, in these few comments, summed up all the reasons I love this song, and most have also mention the incredible symbiotic relationship it has with its video. I’d love for you to check that video out soon. Thanks!

Good song with a terrific string arrangement. Lyrically, this sounds like one of those situations where - if you have to ask why, that pretty much defines the problem. He had to ask, so she let him have it.

Great song - I so miss Eurythmics - hope they at some point will reunite and make more great music! BTW @mattsnider2667 - have you forgotten all about Frida and Agnethas solo works? I think it is a long time since you last reacted to them!?

Hey there! No, I haven’t forgotten, I promise. Both Agnetha and Frida are about to come back around again in the next few days. It just takes longer to get around to everything for me these days (and the weekly ones like Savoy are exceptions, as that relates to the amount of paying members on Patreon who follow the a-ha related deep-dives, who are the majority over there). But yes, expect to see both ladies from ABBA back within a couple days. Cheers and thanks for the patience 😎

Amazing song, in my Top 10 from them, although it's on my least favorite album, I love it

A beautiful song in spite of it's scathing lyrics.

Once again, Icy Annie is back as the Queen of Painful Truths with lyrics like a knife to the heart. This time he keeps asking, so she give it to him straight. It sounds like a woman who has put up with a lot from this man, someone who expects her to be there for him when he needs her, someone who never kept their promises and wasted their time, had affairs etc , and now turns up after another absence expecting her to offer solace and care. She sounds resigned and sad, maybe bitter but it's not spite - just the honest truth. I doubt it is anything to do with them (their relationship had ended before Eurythmics began) - maybe just a picture of a bad marriage drawing on some personal experience. I like how understated it it - it's would be easy to make it more histrionic and harder edged but instead it has a quiet power. It's up among my favourite of their tracks.

Great comment, as usual. But sometimes I agree more than others with your reading, and I completely subscribe to this one, particularly the last part. The "quiet power", absolutely.

Oh, I didn't remember this one by the title, but I recognised it, vaguely. I love this one! ❤ Especially, as you said, that Annie begins so deep and low (I absolutely love her lower register, it's almost masculine) and then going high (which I also love) - very suitably, in the question "Why?".
This might be one of my absolute favourites by Eurythmics, though I hardly remembered it. But my opinion today is probably coloured by the pleasure of rediscovering it. 😉 Can’t wait for the video reaction, now, judging from other comments here. 🙂

I relistened today, and you’re right, Annie sounds great here, low and high. And I really enjoy the string arrangement on this one. A better tune than I realized at first! Thanks for checking this, baby. 😘🥰
