Oh, this same thing happened to me as a teen. Me and some friends were hanging out in a beach house on vacation and the attic door in the ceiling swung open and scared the snot out of me. I thought it was haunted, but upon further investigation, we found out that the attic door would swing open when a door on the floor below opened. My dad said it was something about air pressure changing in the house and I saw that the wider I swung open the door and let it slam, the further the attic door would rise before slamming. So I waited until my friends were upstairs, swung the door open, and let it slam, then I heard screams before my friends came sprinting down the stairs claiming the house was haunted/there's an intruder, etc. Great prank and I learned something!
In an old house of mine if all the windows were shut and we opened the front or back door too quickly the loft hatch would jump up. And this was an aluminum panel with a 3 inch pad of insulation on the back of it, probably weighed a few lbs. This is probably the same thing. Closed room, no other exit but the air vents in the eaves of the roof, change in air pressure when they open the door makes the hatch jump.
I remember a story years ago now where their was someone living in this persons attic and every night would come down to eat before going back to hide in the attic. The only way they found out was because the lady living there thought to install some security cameras in the house.

air pressure. a new, modern house should have very good seals to contain the conditioned air. a windy day might add a low pressure zone in the attic that pushes the inside air into the attic, moving the attic door. Check if there has been a particularly windy day recently if you noticed it's moved (yes i know i'm late to add a comment I just had to write this)
Careful about squatters, we thought my old house was haunted or has a squatter in the attic because the closet door that lead to the hatch would be open in the middle of the night even after we closed it firmly.
Perhaps some kind of tremor could have moved the attic door? My house is near a sand and gravel pit where blast mining regularly occurs, and those explosions are big. The house is solidly about a kilometer from the blast mining and the state I live in is not frequented by natural earthquakes, but when these detonations happen, the house can be felt shuddering, I can visibly see the motion. I think activity like that could easily cause an attic door like that to move in that same way if it hit just right. Either that or it's just Crenfield.
It’s probably just pressure that creates a puff of air that lifts the tile whenever a door opens. Our ceiling did that all the time so we have to be careful about closing the door too fast.
I've heard countless stories (no idea which are real and which are not) but a lot of times squatters (Homeless people, usually) either hide in the attic or crawlspace or a home and will come out at night to get food or water. I'd suggest installing a camera in the garage or at least locking the door into the garage if you don't already. Also, check the fridge in the morning. See if there's anything missing or out of place. If anything else with that attic door occurs, and I mean ever; I'd suggest calling your local PD or Sheriff's to come take a look.
Okay so devils advocate here - my interpretations of those pictures and seeing the progression between the two, it looks like the tile is just tilting out of the hole in the ceiling, not necessarily lifted and turned askew... as if the hole or board has warped over time, possibly due to water or the house just aging, and its just tilting on it's axis. For further explanation of what I'm seeing, when looking at the second photo you were sent, the top right corner appears as if it's closer to the ground, while the bottom left corner appears to be elevated higher than the others - of course this is all from photos and the perspective of seeing it in person could completely debunk my theory, but I wanted to throw in my two cents because to me it looks like that board may eventually fall and could possibly seriously harm someone below or any property stored below, so I would feel terrible if I didn't say something - by all means prove me wrong, I am obsessed with the supernatural and the possibility of ghosts, but as there's the possibility of someone being injured I wanted to speak up just in case - absolutely love the content though gusy! I hope you all are doing well and are happy :-)
Fun fact: In the US there is a haunted house clause that states that a house that has a ghost in it or has had a ghost in it actually depreciates in value meaning Bob can get some sort of compensation from the realtor for not bringing it up before hand.
Ghosts don't exist my dude. And "haunted house clause" isn't a thing. -.- My family have been real estate agents for years, in fact you don't have to disclose anything involving death or murder let alone "paranormal" when selling a house...

see the good part about living in Australia is that our attic gets hot enough to cook birds (yes this has happened before, they make nests in spring and cook in summer) so I know there is no one living up there
Reminds me of how we were haunted for multiple years. Though I personally didn't experience any hauntings other than unreasonable feelings of fear or feelings of being watched during the night, apparently the ghost would touch my parents shoulders, grab at my brothers back, and cause spine chills and horrible feelings to them. Eventually my Mum got annoyed and told the ghost to go away and it hasnt returned since. Personally I'm skeptical, but they dont really have a reason to lie to me and my other brother for multiple years.
this could be one of three things: a/an squatter(s), animal(s) or ghostie-goos. they should find a way to access the attic to check for either remnants of someone living up there, or to check for nests and other evidence of animals coming in to roost
The fact that the Distractible video recommended below this one is titled "this house has a sexy secret" with Bob shirtless holding an S&M whip feels oddly fitting.
Im not entirely verse on the mechanics behind this, but there could be a way wind is entering and getting ‘trapped’ into a space, in either the attic or garage, that is strong enough to cause a pressure shift strong enough to cause the attic access door to lift. Theres a pressure gradient in which an area of high pressure will travel to an area of low pressure, but if i’m forgetting a law of physics that counteracts this law due to x, y, z. Please let me know.
it's actually pressure from the expanding air from the heat popping to get out, opening it. it's heavily documented as that hole is the only way for air to get in or out in most houses
I'm at 2:04, which is just after Mark's description for audio-only-viewers. THIS HAPPENED TO ME. My bedroom has the only attic access in the house. It's just a square hole with a slightly bigger flat and square piece of wood (which looks just like the ceiling but recessed up into the ceiling just a bit, pretty much exactly like the pic Bob showed) I came home from work one night to find that panel off-kilter slightly, looking like someone had hurriedly closed it and left it off-kilter slightly. Exactly like the pic Bob showed! Freaked me RIGHT out. I was always sure our house was haunted and HERE WAS THE PROOF. But it's my bedroom, what am I gonna do?? Right? So now I just lived on high alert for a good long while..... until one day it was really windy. My window in my room faces the direction where the wind is always blowing. And, after a particularly strong gust of wind, that attic access thing went *FLUMP* I nearly had a heart attack, then started watching it like a hawk. Then another gust of wind and it happened again! Turns out, in my case, the wind blew against my window and the air pressure increase caused the door thing to pop up and open like a cork for a champagne bottle. Still scared me, but now at least I understand it lol
There are so many horror stories of people finding their food missing or stuff moved around and finding out someone is livin in the attic or a crawl space in the walls so if this isn't bs i would definitely check for someone set up a camera that's usually how they catch em lol
Good seal on the garage, every time you close the door the air rushes out the only exit, in the roof vents. Blows air through the only escape, and pops the door up. You ever wanna hear a ghost story, I have two personal experiences
Lol, this actually happened to me at my mom's old house. Turns out there was a family of possums living in the house and were trying to get into the garage
It's called a racoon, Bob. Wade seriously underestimates the intelligence of racoons, they're very capable of opening an attic hatch, Bob, check the attic for droppings.
This exact thing happened a week ago (the attic hatch opening), and my all-time biggest fear is having a home intruder, and we still don't know what happened... my parents blame it on the wind.
It’s possible that a pressure change can cause this. We used to have a similar attic access and when you would shut the garage door real fast the pressure would push it up and make a sound or even move it. It’s kinda like when you open the front door of the house and one of the bedroom doors close or open because of the wind. Same concept. I do believe in ghosts to some extent but I don’t think this is that. Try opening and closing doors around the house while someone stands in the garage to see which door is causing it to move. That is the most likely explanation, and if that is the cause a fix is putting the cover on a hinge or two locks like we did for ours. It will still make a sound but it won’t move any more.
With the amount of stories ive heard of people living in other people's attics secretly and whatever, they should get it checked and make sure that no one is actually living up there.
I live in a house thts been passed down in my husband's family for generations. It was also built in the late 1800s. 4 family members DIED in various rooms of the house. Thts not even counting prior owners to his family. There was even a casket viewing for his great great grandfather literally where our couch is rn. Im convinced its haunted. My husband feels like hes being watched, wed hear knocks on the door n find no one there, hear random footsteps, close doors several times tht seem to open themselves (even checking tht they r latched) n our cats would just stare at random corners of the house.
I (possibly) have an attic ghost I have lovingly named Carl. He's pretty quiet. Once when my brother went into the attic to check on the damage from a leak in the roof, out of the corner of my eye I saw a dark mass fall from the ceiling of the hallway to the floor. When I looked there was nothing on the ground. My brother disturbed Carl's peace :(
The wind from the roof of the garage can move the hatch we have one in our hallway and the wind blows that hatch open all the time. Same thing of a push up snd raise up the panel all you have to do is weight the panel somehow like we attached a small plank of wood to ours.
I'm thinking pressure/temp change, weather, shifting of the house, etc is what could have done it. I've lived in a house that was certainly haunted with something in the attic but the board we had never moved because it was heavy and wasn't sealed so I can't say for certain. Now for the part that will give anyone reading this shivers: I slept in my van in the garage under that hole at night for a week straight with a window ac in the window because I had to wait on the A/C breaker to ship during a holiday. We got whatever was there removed before we left. I'm sure whoever rents/lives there now appreciates not dealing with that.
Fun aside, I doubt a person would be dumb enough to leave it that obviously disheveled, I can imagine a creature following the light is attempting to escape and that final picture has it teetering on Corners so it could have escaped through the lower corner and it's see-saw'ed back into that position... Call an exterminator.
I have a similar hatch in my house that leads to the attic. It's really windy where I live and the wind gets inside the attic lifts the hatch. So it's often opening on its own. It's spooky if you don't know, though.
Well, this is pretty easy to explain. The attic should have a vent to let out heat. If there are any open windows downstairs or when a door is opened a wind gust could rather easily pop that up.
I love these kinds of stories. They are my absolute favorites. I'm building an imaginary campfire and inviting all storytelling. My story: I woke up because I was cold. I opened my bedroom door and felt a breeze. The door to my uncle's room was open (he was away for the holidays and we kept his door shut because his room creeped us out). I went to close his door only to find that the door to the outside balcony was wide open. There was even a little snow on the carpet. When I went to close it, I noticed the door to his computer room was also open, and his closet, and his wardrobe. I closed them all and went back out in to the hallway to find the attic door and towel cupboards open, as well as the medicine cabinet and sink cabinet in the bathroom. I felt compelled to look downstairs too. I still get chills thinking about it. All the kitchen cupboards were open, the basement door, all the outside doors, the door to the greenroom, the fridge, the stove, the dishwasher, even the little doors on the entertainment stand. Every door in the house was wide open, except for our bedroom door. No one had the keys, and all of our friends and family were alarmed and urged us to file a police report. I don't know why someone would break in just to open every single door in the house. But the thought that someone knew where we were and didn't try our door, or opened our door, saw us sleeping, and closed it again will haunt me forever.
I stopped watching this show when it’s switched over to Spotify exclusively and for the past month I just binged every episode that I haven’t seen to catch up
I had one of these in my old house and in strong winds it would bang and dislodge, sometimes completely falling out. Was creepy as hell in the middle of the night but a normal explanation thankfully!
A previous house of ours legitimately had this same issue. It was in High Point, NC. We've occasionally had things turn up missing, occasional weird noises up above that we thought was just the sounds of the house setting in. We never looked up at the attic because we never stuck anything up there. However, a neighbor of ours told us as we were getting ready to move that she sometimes saw the lights in the attic turn on through the window up there. Just never said anything because she assumed we used it. So uh...yeah that freaked us the fuck out. We don't know if it was a ghost or an actual squatter living up there in secret, but both possibilities would be equally terrifying.
Ya'll now need to do a live-action Phasmophobia skit in Bob's house. Actually, nevermind. As much fun as I think that'd be to watch I don't' want everyone and their grandmother knowing what the inside of Bob's house looks like and where he keeps vaguely valuable things.

I'd love to see an actual, serious ghost investigation. No jokes, no setups.

Tbh I was thinking the same since my house is doing similar stuff
It's just wind creating a suction it's not that deep...
@@ericaallisonc So then explain the Black hope curse where a whole housing area was built on graveyard full of Black slaves?. yes It a real fucking law ya troll.

2:39 marks reaction hands down the best ive ever seen 😂😂😂
When the hatch fully opens the demon comes out and kills you. You're forever cursed to keep closing it
We had one of those hatches in our carport but it was bigger. I saw it was open once when it hadn't been that morning, actually had the police come take a look.
That carport has since been closed off and converted to a new room but not for the reason
see the good part about living in Australia is that our attic gets hot enough to cook birds (yes this has happened before, they make nests in spring and cook in summer) so I know there is no one living up there
With a baby in the house I would be super paranoid about this house.
I appreciate that they are posting clips that are very visual on the channel
It’s odd this came up for me after the last distract able episode with the fact reflections on his basement monitors.
I have listened to every single Distractible episode literally 10 times over, I'm not kidding, somebody please help me
it's actually pressure from the expanding air from the heat popping to get out, opening it. it's heavily documented as that hole is the only way for air to get in or out in most houses
That guy even followed the married couple to different houses. It really was quite the crazy situation
Don’t forget that he murdered the husband, too!
I'm at 2:04, which is just after Mark's description for audio-only-viewers.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME. My bedroom has the only attic access in the house. It's just a square hole with a slightly bigger flat and square piece of wood (which looks just like the ceiling but recessed up into the ceiling just a bit, pretty much exactly like the pic Bob showed)
I came home from work one night to find that panel off-kilter slightly, looking like someone had hurriedly closed it and left it off-kilter slightly.
And, after a particularly strong gust of wind, that attic access thing went *FLUMP*
I nearly had a heart attack, then started watching it like a hawk. Then another gust of wind and it happened again!
Turns out, in my case, the wind blew against my window and the air pressure increase caused the door thing to pop up and open like a cork for a champagne bottle.
Still scared me, but now at least I understand it lol
How has Bob lived 10 times the life of anyone I've met?
And none of his stories are fame or money-related either, he is just event-prone!
poor Wade at the end "it was funny.." Don't worry I laughed Wade XD
Am I the only one who gets anxious seeing Mark's boar spear propped up like that?
It's gonna warp over time! You gotta lay it flat!
Omg marks face at 1:11 is hilarious
Giving "Hello?" energy
How hard did they close the door when they left? Probably just air pressure.
"I can see the latency!" Oddly hilarious line.
There are so many horror stories of people finding their food missing or stuff moved around and finding out someone is livin in the attic or a crawl space in the walls so if this isn't bs i would definitely check for someone set up a camera that's usually how they catch em lol
I love how they can joke about everything like a ghost
Ghost just chilling with the ultrakill hud "something bobby this way comes"
We need a series of Bob's New Haunted House Updates now lmfao
I had a attic cover suck up into my attic when a very small and dying tornado past over my home breaking some limbs.
Good seal on the garage, every time you close the door the air rushes out the only exit, in the roof vents. Blows air through the only escape, and pops the door up.
You ever wanna hear a ghost story, I have two personal experiences
4:15 OMG I know the story Mark is talking about!! It was covered in one of MrBallen's stories in his channel!!
If they didn’t reset it after the first incident, I wonder if it just fell more open over time. That first opening though… that I don’t know.
Attic goblin bull was not what I was expecting.
I don't think Wade should have lost points for his pun... That was cruel, Mark.
So, Bob is living through the plot of "Bad Ronald". How exciting.
It is time for Bob, Wade, and Mark to go ghost hunting.
Call Jack.
Dang! There's nothing but Bob's experience with haunted stuff in here 🤣
I live in a house thts been passed down in my husband's family for generations.
My brother disturbed Carl's peace :(
What are the chances that Mandy's parents are messing with them?
if they are listening to the podcast then yes it could be possible.
AWESOME joke Wade!! You deserve 20 points!
for two weeks I've been reading the title as "Bob's new fridge is haunted" and I was just thinking "BRO GOT ANOTHER FUCKIN' FRIDGE??"
I have a similar hatch in my house that leads to the attic. It's really windy where I live and the wind gets inside the attic lifts the hatch.
So it's often opening on its own. It's spooky if you don't know, though.
The thumbnails in these episodes make me wish there's a Distractible Animated for every one of them.
Well, this is pretty easy to explain.
The attic should have a vent to let out heat. If there are any open windows downstairs or when a door is opened a wind gust could rather easily pop that up.
Then why is it opening more and why didn't it open before?
Interesting that their first thought was haunting because as a rural person, my first thought is always raccoons lol
The garage has a drafty attic and the difference in air pressure is rattling and moving the hatch.
Ya'll now need to do a live-action Phasmophobia skit in Bob's house.
Actually, nevermind. As much fun as I think that'd be to watch I don't' want everyone and their grandmother knowing what the inside of Bob's house looks like and where he keeps vaguely valuable things.
This reminds me of that time when I was a kid and I went to on a school trip and our cabin had an attic and one day we came back and the lid had been moved just like that.
