I am about 3 years behind on my binge watching, but to see you drifting below the chateau at Besancon made me wake up. I studied at university there in Besancon back in '66 for a semester and never knew the Doub flowed beneath the citadel! I drank many a 'flagon' of wine on its banks, ate more than I should of croissants and fondue, and basked in the brief sunshine before winter set in. Thanks for taking me along on a fine trip down memory lane!
Sears Rachel Thank you so much, this comment really put a smile on my face. I am so happy to hear you enjoy the videos. I look forward to having you follow along our journey!
You're darn right. Funny thing is that I took 2 years of French in High School. I remember, maybe, 1% of that. I imagine that it would be pretty comical watching me struggle to that degree.
Hi from Bermuda. What an absolutely amazing experience. I could see myself just cruising the canals and drinking wine for the rest of my life! Thanks for putting this up.
Wow! you are a breath of fresh air. Slow camera movements. Nice music in tune with the moment. To top it all, two nice and resourceful individuals. All of that on a smaller more accessible scale. You both look healthy and happy. Which is a lot to be thankful for in these troubled times. This thing is invisible and sneaky. It's also a two way street. It's sad to say but you will have to be careful with just about everybody that you meet. Otherwise, I predict quality times ahead! 😎
I started watching for the boat repair and the sailing. Now I'm hooked on the music. I am not a very musical person listening mostly to talk radio in my travels but the breadth and styles you play are awesome. I never seem to find these on the radio or I would listen more. But then I saw you play and now I understand where it all comes from. News flash, Le Boat has come to Canada and now playing havoc on the Rideau Canal System based out of Smiths Falls Ontario. I am hooked.
Brian Mason That is SO great to hear that you enjoy the music so much! Choosing the music for these episodes is one of my favourite parts. Many of the artists I choose are not terribly well known (with some obvious exceptions!) so feel free to look them up and maybe buy a song or two of theirs. I am all about supporting small artists! I’m glad you liked my little performance on the bow too. We are very glad to have you along on the journey, you are a valued subscriber! Sincerely Maya (and Aladino)
I love these video. Stunning scenery including the Besacon castle tunnel, Tunnel of Love with lights and waterfall, quaint Dole, serene small canals, a lovely violin player, handsome skipper. Truely magical. The yacht draft of 1.7 metres is sometimes scaping the bottom of the river.. You would not be able to take it on many English and Welsh canals which need flat bottom boats. Hello from Australia. We have almost no scenic canals. Lots of Coastline, beaches, islands, rivers, lakes, estuaries and harbours. Many country rivers like the Darling have all but dried up and the paddle boats of a century ago are long gone. Long rivers like the Murray lack varied scenery with just a few interesting towns. We Aussies love the European waterways, scenery and sense if history. Bon Voyage mes amis.
One good advantage i see travelling by boat is you can dry your clothes on the deck, railing and mast. Not possible when you roam by a camper van or a motor cycle.
Repeat what others have said, from me: "So happy for you guys! Awesome videos. Super glad I found this channel!" FUN and the appreciation of life, is what I feel when watching your videos, thank you for that!
This has to be the best sailing channel I have seen and I watch them all ! You all have an honest presentation, no hype . Keep up the good work as I work my 9 to 5 job and dream of your having your beautiful lifestyle.
I got to say I think it’s pretty awesome you guys sailed the boat from where it was repaired through all the canals to get to the Mediterranean. It must have been so awesome going through the canals slowly taking in the scenery of France.
Typical rental boat action! On the Norfolk Broads in the UK, it’s usually chaotic during the holiday periods. However, there are no locks on the Broads. On the camel network in the UK narrowboats have a central handling line to make lock work easier, particularly for single crewed boats. Boats are also well equipped with plenty of fenders... thanks for making such great videos...
You talked about you following SV Delos in a previous episode. They’ve changed a lot so I looked for a new sailing channel to follow and found Magic Carpet. So glad. This is creative genius !
That was amazing I find your videos addictive. It is like a good book once you start you find hard to stop. Great footage of all those beautiful towns and villages I especially loved the tunnel under the castle. Thanks heaps for that. 🇦🇺
Hello there, a another enjoyable veiwing n Very interesting good camera work Great music n enjoyable Thank you for sharing your video cheers take care see you soon
Having only found your beautiful channel about 2 months ago I have been catching old episodes and am finding them all very enjoyable. Great presentation of aspects of French canal travels. Always love your musical talent and am thrilled to see the connection to the real local culture via music. Thanks for your labor of love. May it bring you unexpected rewards.
Hi, as a professional cameraman I appreciate the held static shots. And not constant wiz panning. Good eye contact with your audience through the lens. Nicely edited, just a little disjointed at times. Maybe some continuity with where you are, using maps or GPS. Even if it's just someone using an iPad showing the route. And if you have a tender, it would be nice to run up ahead. Get some wide shots from the shore of the boat motoring by. Or invest in a drone when you can, it will change your life as a videographer. Get those wide & transition shots. Most I watch are in the Caribbean, nice to see a different location 👍🏼👍🏼
What a blast! Lovely towns. In the long northern tunnels (1+ mile etc) they tie the boats line astern and then tow them all 5-10 at a time thru the tunnel with a tug boat.....now that is white knuckle stuff! The southern canal are so different! Cheers warren
Came across your channel and started from the beginning. Thank you so much for the ride .. What a different view going thru the rivers and Lock's. To a Awesome couple and beautiful ship I say thank you and can not wait to catch up to your tails.
The small waterfalls are called weirs. Basically they’re their to prevent all of the water in the river from draining away and allowing the upper reaches of the river to maintain its navigability.
You've mentioned Fon Casey's book. Don has forgotten more about fixing things than most people will ever. His books are in my home and aboard my boats. A copy goes with me if I'm aboard someone else's boat. Must have. I also recommend Ferenc Mates' books.
Each episode is a discovery ... Excellent musician and pleasant speaker, I think I'm not wrong in imagining that the choice of beautiful soundtracks is due to the expertise of Maya, right?
The Waterfalls with locks provided to go around. In the United States they are called Low Head Dams (nickname drowning machines) and are very dangerous. We encounter them a lot when I was young and would canoe down the local stream. We always portage our canoe around them since they were too small for locks.
I happened to pull into a bay in Corsica at the day of the finals. I assume this was one of the very rare days where the Corse admit being french. It was a great party across the whole anchorage ;-) Thanks for letting us be part of your joourney!
What a gorgeous little village. Great footage. Great video. Greetings from cold Boston area. All the best, Jim Andersen, Cat Boat Adventures, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts
Reminds me of that story “the £200 Millionaire “. Canals of France. Endless summer….England in the summer, south of France for the winter. Did you ever read that story?
I'm late as well. Just found your channel. Amazing stuff. My heart is set on the South Pacific, but now I'm kinda thinking I would like to pass through these canals as well somewhere in my travels. Absolutely superb videos. Well done.
The canals were a wonderful experience, I feel lucky to have gone through them. Just gotta make sure you have a reliable engine! Thank you so much for your comment and your support.
There's nothing about this video that I didn't enjoy. Your editing and voiceover are excellent. The only suggestion I would make is that you put the name of the town you're visiting in the lower left corner. It's make it much easier to follow your route as so many towns in France are the same name. Keep up the great work.
Your Music is the best of all the Sailing videos on TH-cam

Mia, I just love your artistry and your love of music and life. It truly is expressed in everything you put forth on film.
Sears Rachel Thank you so much, this comment really put a smile on my face. I am so happy to hear you enjoy the videos. I look forward to having you follow along our journey!
Love your music selection, makes for a great video.. not sure how anyone could give you a thumbs down.
And as the legends go, that little kid is still dancing to this very day!
The music, your selection in back ground or in some cases for ground music is just super. Love it all.
Oh to be young, full of adventure and curiosity!
Wow. Not too many sailors can say they sailed under a mountain with a 🏰 very cool.
I love the choice of music you put in your videos. Just wonderful. Thank you for being this well versed. It's exceptional.
Nice to hear Madeline Peyroux. Saw her at the Yardbird Suite a few years ago.
Just started to look at buying my first sailboat. Think this has made it a definite!
Wow! How incredible it must have been to be on a sailboat, in a canal, beneath a castle.
Amazing.
-Ben
When are you guys going to France Ben. It would be great seeing you navigate the language. Though I'm not sure I could handle laughing that much.
You're darn right.
Funny thing is that I took 2 years of French in High School.
I remember, maybe, 1% of that.
I imagine that it would be pretty comical watching me struggle to that degree.
If you took it in school, your way ahead of me! All I know is a handful of greetings, and about insult or two I picked up from some Canadians lol.
Her hair grows a lot longer.. how lovely indeed.😍😍😍 The art of love is beneath the true story of friendships. They will both grow old forever.
The best music 🎶 🎵 forever violin 🎻 sailing ⛵️ is amazing, great video , I really like it thanks
Fabulous. LOVE THE WAY YOU "SEE" things and not just pass by.
I like these people.
I went to college in Besancon, but I've never seen this view of the canal under the fort! Thanks so much!
Congratulations, on the boat, for the good taste in music, and for gifting us with your exciting adventures.
Love the music, yours and all the rest!!!
Hi from Bermuda. What an absolutely amazing experience. I could see myself just cruising the canals and drinking wine for the rest of my life! Thanks for putting this up.
One can only dream of such a voyage. Beautiful!
Loved the footage from Dole as it's how I imagine provincial France to look like, even though as towns go it's not tiny. Well done.
So freaking lovely. I felt like I was there too!

Music is grabbing me too. It could be a channel on Pandora. Or, for us old timers, a CD set!
@@SailingMagicCarpetdo you have a spotify channel with all the music you listen to?
How beautiful.
Ah. Le Boat. We have them on the Thames in England too. Fortunately I live on a 16.5 m, 15 ton steel narrowboat. There’s only ever one winner. 😳
Maya, you are a very good musician as well. Your music track selections also demonstrate this.
I love these video. Stunning scenery including the Besacon castle tunnel, Tunnel of Love with lights and waterfall, quaint Dole, serene small canals, a lovely violin player, handsome skipper.

I am amazed at the infrastructure of such mature areas.
WOW!!! What a great trip. I've heard of the canel's and locks . This video brought them to life.
Jim Morrison "Did you have a good life? One you can write a book about?"
That's some good adventure right there!
A beautiful boat - 🙂 Great trip and great violin - Share your short clips with us.

Wandered off at 8:03 to wallow in 3 hours of Leonard Cohen. How I love that guys music ;-)
Absolutely love the music!
I own a 46 years old Rebell Seaskip Mk 2 and plan a similar trip from Maaseik, Kingdom of Belgium to Verdun (France) on River Meuse this summer.

Beautiful....
Great jamming session music 🎶
Well done and thanks for Peroux's cover of Leonard Cohen's classic...kind of reminded me of Josephine Baker.
Great video, many thanks . Good luck
Thats a good thing about small boat you can go through canals. However, I guess big ones can also fit there. I want to buy big one 😇😇🏝🦶🏼
Your choice of music is great - very enjoyable and flows with your commentary

I'm here a little late, (8/17/2018) but I have to comment on those amazing locks, and crossings scenery. On the bucket list from this moment.
Horr Kneeh a worthy bucket list item indeed!
Bella Ciao is an Italian classic.
Love your musical taste!
