    In this video, I'm comparing the FAST LEGATOS of Cinematic Studio Strings, Spitfire Abbey Road Orchestra 1st Violins, and CineStrings. For these, we're transcribing Beethoven's 6th (I movement) and Haydn's Symphony 104 (I movement).
    These are the other videos of the series:
    Slow Melody - Edward Elgar: Variations on an Original Theme (Enigma) - VID #1: • Spitfire Audio - Abbey...
    Allegro Melody - J. Haydn: Symphony 104, Hob. I:104, I movement - VID #2: (this one)
    Allegro Melody - L. V. Beethoven: Symphony 6, Op. 68, I movement - VID #2: (this one)
    Staccato Low Register (Ostinato) - John Powell - The Bourne Ultimatum 2M3 - Waterloo - VID #3
    Staccato High Register (Ostinato) - Chris Young - Spider Man 3 - Harry confronts Peter - VID #3
    Fast Figures (from Low to High) - John Williams - Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - Sky Battle - VID #4

    The style of videos are always fine... The youtube algorithm just really punishes people for making more challenging videos.

    Tip: the programming issues with CSS that Marc mentions here can be avoided completely by using the CSS Control Panel (KSP script) by Alex Vincent. It works absolutely perfect for me, I can keep everything fully quantized on the grid, no need to nudge anything.

    In the past, I didn't have a PC, I worked with a Roland VA7 keyboard, with it I composed day after day, I didn't worry about how good the samples sounded, the instruments that the keyboard had, and with that limitation, I made music and recorded it on a tape recorder. of CDs directly from the keyboard to the recorder.
    Today, after 20 years of that, I have to say that I am a victim of addiction to VST libraries, I have so many that if I told you how much I have spent, you would be scared, and I know that unfortunately there are more people like me, who have fallen into the massive attack on the marketing of VST libraries today, and like many people, that has affected me a lot, to the point of completely blocking my inspiration to compose, I would say to those of you who are starting out, my advice, less is more, no It is about the quality of the vsts, it is about your passion, your talent and your ability to create, I have paid thousands of euros for a couple of vsts, the question I ask myself and I do it, do you think it is necessary? Don't you think we have to stop spending money and do what we really like and want? The most important thing my friends, make good music.

    I absolutely ❤ these types of videos. Hear the real orchestra and then the best samples to recreate. It really shows the difference in orchestra instruments. Thank Marc. Any midi files for this so I can try it out myself?

    This is the first video so far finally paying special attention to the weakest link of all of these libraries, no matter the developer, price or size. It's the fast passages. So the best sound library should have this problem fixed. Usually in libraries it's either very slow attack or cheap machine gun "tra-ta-ta" type of samples switching.

    Thank You for addressing cinestrings version, it's a bit shocking to me in what state v 2.0 is, in therms of intonation at least. It's very sad to see. For a bit more of a punch in articulations, You can try "setting" and "sample start", but I can see why You goin for v1.0. I have rolled back on 1.4 some time ago, and never realy stopped looking back into 1.0 so I got You. I appreciate this series, very refreshing to see this instruments being used for some real classical pieces. Hopefully we can see also 1.4 in action, which is maybe a little bit more polished compared to 2.0. Thanks again Marc

    It would be cool to see any of Vienna Symphonic Library's Synchron Series Strings in this comparison. Have you tested them by chance?

    For the CSS, there's a "Classic Legato Patches" for anyone (incl. myself) if the original one is too hard to play/program due to its latency. 😉

    Do you use cc#1 and cc#11 on fast marcato notes for realism as well? Or only on sustain voices?

    Excellent and instructive video. Given that you start by saying you're using Cinematic Studio Strings and then replacing the melody violins with Abbey Road violins and then Cinestrings, does this mean that all other string parts are Cinematic Studio Strings? Just saying because you're getting a beautiful bass and cello sound

    • @CinematicComposing
      @CinematicComposing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. All the other strings are CSS
      I should've clarified.
      Thanks for asking.

      I'd go with CSS.
      It has a bit of a learning curve... but you get the most bang for your buck
      That being said, you wouldn't go wrong with any of the other two, they're also good libraries. But for me, I'd choose CSS

    Marc, have you noticed in the 2.0 version Cinestrings Core that the vibrato slider doesn't work as expected? On my end if the fader is to the left, a new note will not have vibrato, but then you can't add vibrato to that note. If you move it to the right, a new note will have vibrato but you can crossfade back to non-vibrato. I've written the company about this and can't tell if it is just me or no one else has noticed. I also wish the short overlay feature was velocity sensitive! Seems like an oversight that it is not! There is a threshold you can set to trigger a short attack, and you can switch between three different attacks, but they are heard a the same velocity. So, if I set the attack threshold at zero because I always want attacks, I'll just hear a one-velocity attack since the sustain is so low with that CC is at pianissimo.

      @michaelrasbury 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CinematicComposing I have found the issue. There is a scripting issue. The vibrato fader doesn't work correctly "out of the box." It only works correctly after you make your first custom mapping. If I load an instance of Violins 1 let's say, click on sustains and move the fader on a single note, you can't crossfade between vibrato and non-vibrato. As soon as I set up keyswitches in their custom map section (there are none by default) the fader then behaves correctly.
