I gotta put Tony above Johnny Sac for the simple reason that he is the only boss that is terrifying by himself. Every other boss could command fear and respect through what they could order other people to do. Patsy Parisi was pretty bad ass in a low key kind of way. there are a lot of times where he’s doing some shiesty stuff. He’s the one who gets the suits and the furs, called to take out Gloria and delivers without having to, and when he fails at taking out tony he just pees in the pool. In the end it’s his son who ends up with meadow.
Where is Richie Aprile?! He stood up to Tony on multiple occasions despite him being twice his size, beat the shit outta Beansie in a a crowded restaurant, ran him over and had the balls to plan a coup against Tony despite him already being aware of this move or on the verge of finding out! If that doesn’t scream badass I don’t know what does…

He hit the Russian in the head while running through the woods, hit Sean in the head from the ground with his non dominant hand while wounded and shooting at a moving target, hit the biker while shooting behind himself at a moving car, hit the bakery kid in the foot without even using the sights shooting basically from the waist. The man could be a competition shooter.

Johnny Sack wanted to kill him, but couldn't. That's rare where someone wants you dead, and it can't happen. Because their power is that intact. Tony wasn't touching that. He died without being indicted, or being shot. And he was the only one on the show that acted like a real boss. I love the scene they're at the table, and he's getting a piece of Tony's business, while just sitting there eating, not saying word, and letting Johnny speak on his behalf. He doesn't even have to speak. Johnny just has to tell Tony what Carmine wants, and Tony can't even contest it. Doesn't even try. It's just settled. That kind of power shows how bad ass he is. Just like in real life, Carlo Gambino was the biggest bad ass in the mob. Doesn't mean he was the toughest physically, but he could have anyone killed and everyone feared the hell out of him because of his power. Any tough guy in the mob can be killed instantly.

Most of the people aren't this list aren't who I'd consider to be "badass." One thing The Sopranos did on a consistent basis was to undermine the bravado and machismo of its characters, to the point where if you've seen the series most of them come off as pathetic, or at the very least someone you feel sorry for. Furio, Silvio and the Russian are probably the closest to "badass" you get on the show. Furio was ruthless, but also had a good head on his shoulders and had the good sense to leave the dysfunction before the family hit Whitecaps. And if you pissed off Silvio, it's because you fucked up, not because he was in his feelings.
